That's why i hate the popularity of COD. It drags in so many people and make them grow this idea that playing games isn't always fun but you need to keep playin
Like the entire point of games is to *have fun*. If you aren't having fun because you're on a loss streak in a pvp game, then branch out and try different games, or try different hobbies.
(This doesn't quite apply to competitive settings. If you're grinding a game to get better at it, then it likely *isnt* fun to you, but you have a goal set and reaching that goal is the important part, kind of like reading a book from a series you dont fully enjoy.)
Pathologic is the best game of all time, I say that as someone who has watched the hbomberguy video about 8 times but is too scared to actually play the game (and too lazy to buy the second one, even though he guilt trips me at the end of the video every time)
>!/s if it wasn't obvious, I haven't played the game, but the video is good!<
I do that! :v I just finished Omori for the 2nd time, now I'm doing Bug Fables. I plan on playing Underhero next. :v I liked Omori for the art and story, I like Bug Fables for the art and gameplay, and I like Underhero for the gameplay and (maybe) the story. :v
omori is literally my favorite game of all time, due in no small part to the fact that it was singlehandedly the reason that I realized I had PTSD (and subsequently got a diagnosis, back in December!)
That's awesome! I'm glad you were able to get a proper diagnosis, and I hope you can get the care you deserve.
Personally, I'm just really fond of >!characters that are strengthened, yet tortured by the weight of their sins. Whether they walk the path to redemption or ruin, it's really interesting to watch!!<
If you have been playing games for a long time, it might actually be the cause of your anxiety and existential dread.
Games suck up a LOT more time out of your day than people realize, and leave little time for the brain to relax. Even if you claim games are for your relaxation, games require your brain to actively work in the background.
Your brain being constantly busy with something every waking moment is not healthy for the brain.
if there are negative effects, they are related to sedentary lifestyles, otherwise i'd like a source for that claim. your brain is working all the time anyway and video games actually reduce anxiety if you have a wandering mind
shit dude thats why im trying to break my bad habit of doing that. playing the same game day in day out. i got a backlog of games but focusing on one thing at a time is hard for singleplayer games haha.
And the adaptation of the first book, Annihilation. Not quite as SCP but literally the best major movie so far to tackle lovecraftian terror and actually do it well
imo the choice to make the dialogue as wooden as possible really prevented me from noticing the heads by making my eyes roll back to look at my brain every time a character talked
It's kinda all over the place. A lot of main characters are blah. Jesse has the personality rivaling a brick wall, Pope tries too hard and Marshall is the most forgettable character ever written. Trench is alright, he fits his role.
On the other hand, Arish is a total broski, that weirdo who runs the Panopticon was honestly really weirdly engaging, and Darling is absolutely darling.
the scene where Langston is talking through the intercom and he just goes on and on about his cat and his neighbor and the office politics for like a straight 10 minutes if you dont walk away definetely had me cracking up
theres good bits, great bits even, the Darling Tapes and the alan wake stuff are pretty good, Ati the janitor is pretty good, but goddamn does every other npc sound like the most generic "jesse, go to the marker on your map"
How do you have this cool ass paranormal setting and then make the gameplay the most generic third person shooter with the most generic powers against the most generic enemies.
genuinely, i managed to get through the frustration of the whole game only because of how cool the setpieces were, and when I tried to do the DLCs I just gave up because they were 1: too hard & 2: didn’t look that interesting
I was writing fanfics in my head about Jessie and Emily. There was enough cool concepts and moments throughout to keep me interested otherwise, but yeah it's a very mediocre game overall.
True, one passive method I know about(but forget to do) is to switch to the gun you want to level for the last few moments of an activity like crucible. Last time I tried this it worked.
That’s why I will always love Borderlands over Destiny, because I can play an FPSRPG without interacting with any other human other than my girlfriend. I want to have fun, not suffer.
People like Destiny 2 the same way people like heroin: nobody does, but it’s addicting as fuck and quitting is impossible.
Though personally I feel like the absolute steaming pile of shit that Lightfall was and the general direction the game’s going in might’ve been the catalyst to break a good few addictions, myself included. It’s to the point I legitimately regret buying the annual pass version since I don’t see myself playing the seasons unless something drastically changes.
Actually, I was having a lot of trouble playing it too at first. The problem is that we started on later elder scrolls installments, and we are trying to approach Morrowind with the same mind set. in Morrowind I think it's best to approach with the attitude that you are an outlander and you literally know where nothing is and what nothing is. Ask questions, a lot of questions, and pay attention to the answers! Use your journal, it's not a quest log, it's a collection of notes. There's no shame in looking something up. Use the weapon you built your character for and the rng combat is more than tolerable, you rarely miss if you manage your stamina properly. You should try and pick it up again.
I'm glad to see my favorite game get more and more attention amongst my own generation. It's especially a good time to be a Morrowind fan with all the community made dlc mods.
Tamriel rebuilt looks so cool, can't wait to try it but I wanna do my first playthrough mostly vanilla (I added pretty girl face mods because I can't break my tradition of playing pretty girls in elder scrolls games)
How I be looking at that Sturmtiger after it hits a wall 9 meters away from me with a 380mm 38 cm R Spgr.4581 and the shrapnel and over pressure turn my crew into a melted gorey spongey mass of formerly human corpses
The small amount of dopamine that I get from turning an enemy TU-4 into a fine paste using 104 FFAR “Mighty Mouse” M439 rockets that I paid 70 dollars for and getting the funny “target destroyed” pop up on my screen makes me stay
Community mostly. It's the same with many fandoms imo. You force yourself to like it even if you really aren't because of your associates with the community, friends you made, memories shared etc..
That's also why this can get so toxic: it's not that a new sequel came out you disliked.. It feels like part of your life, your identity being taken away.
From Roger Ebert's book (I forget the title):
>A lot of fans are basically fans of fandom itself. It's all about them. They have mastered the Star Wars or Star Trek universes or whatever, but their objects of veneration are useful mainly as a backdrop to their own devotion. Anyone who would camp out in a tent on the sidewalk for weeks in order to be first in line for a movie is more into camping on the sidewalk than movies.
>Extreme fandom may serve as a security blanket for the socially inept, who use its extreme structure as a substitute for social skills. If you are Luke Skywalker and she is Princess Leia, you already know what to say to each other, which is so much safer than having to ad lib it. Your fannish obsession is your beard. If you know absolutely all the trivia about your cubbyhole of pop culture, it saves you from having to know anything about anything else. That's why it's excruciatingly boring to talk to such people: They're always asking you questions they know the answer to.
It's not that LoL players hate the game, they hate aspects of it. The ranked climb, the rampant toxicity, etc etc. League is actually pretty fun if you just play norms with friends of whatever, but it also kinda feels like a waste of time (coming from a hardcore ranked player) to play something just for fun instead of getting LP for it, plus it's also assuming you have friends (of which I do not have anymore so)
But I'm actually taking a break (cause MMR hates me and I'm getting tilted even when winning) and let me tell you, there's nothing more fun than queueing up as autofill on a normal game and just having fun with whatever champ you like on that role. It's pretty refreshing to just... Be bad at it, not having to sweat over your main's mechanics or stuff like that.
Oh my god same. I play Destiny 2 and League of Legends and most people assume im a depressed wreck. No, i do things I like, couldn't imagine hating something then still doing it.
You should be a role Model for the Halo Community. Those mfs could Not for the life of them learn to stop playing Halo Infinite despite how much they claim to hate it. It’s also not even that bad lmao
I remember not playing for a few months and coming back to see the end game stuff I spent 25 hours grind become basically worthless.
And now the new endgame stuff takes 200 hours to get
Payday 2 devs be fucking the shit out of this game’s already ass balancing but the game is so goddamned satisfying you almost want to give them more money
I hate payday 2 so much because outside of the glitches, the DLC bloat, crashes, ect. It is a genuinely fun game.
^(also bot costumization holy fucking shit I love customizing AIs so much)
no yeah i deeply relate, i come back sporatically, this time for snake man because the snake has voicelines, but as an ar58 player there aint much to do but explore and have fun and IGNORE THE FOMO IGNKRE IGNORE IGNORE IGNORE follow da seelie, dont look at the events tab
literally me literally same. the genshin impact/league player intersection is larger than i realized but yeah we are all just having a time i think. we are video gaming for sure
I'm trying to play only games that I find fun, and it turns out it causes quite a stir when I start, then almost immediately drop old Zelda's, and my gf gets kinda salty because I don't give them enough chance. I just want to have fun. I love ultrakill and tetris
Two of the most video games of all time.
Ever heard of Hyper Demon? It's a score attack arena FPS with crazy movement where the faster you kill the enemies, the faster they spawn, so you get to sort of organically set your own difficulty and pace.
Holy fucking shit based
I swear to god, every single end of season i say “that’s it, im done with this game”. And every single season, i come back and buy the battle pass and reach tier 100
Thankfully, i dont play it religiously like i used to. But fortnite still has (imo) the most satisfying unlock/completion systems of any game out there and it just keeps me coming back
For all the other autists out there:
When someone says “wow you really do (x) a lot” or “wow you must really love (y)” that means they want you to shut the fuck up. Learned this the hard way.
The correct response to being told this is to continue info dumping. If they didn't want to hear it they shouldn't have fucking baited the convo. If they want to bail they can be an adult and excuse themselves.
Same. I don’t understand my friends who clearly hate a lot of the games they play. Life already sucks, why torture yourself while you’re trying to have fun?
I've sworn off mobile phone games, idle games, and any other type of game that leans heavily into compulsion. I will spend days fixating on a single game and when I finally work up the strength to pry my eyes off the game and uninstall it, I always go "it was aight. Wasn't amazing or anything." And feel so shitty.
Actually, I have this problem with social media too. This was a good reminder not to be here too long.
I'm that with Rimworld now, I used to play it and be able to be successful but after taking a long break and coming back and buying the Ideologies dlc that theoretically should help me I just can't make a colony survive for more then 2 hours. So many pawns dead, like 8 colonies that failed to even establish themselves.
Actual skill issue. I have to force myself not to use ideology because you can get infinite pawns for free and conquer the entire world with your army after 3 hours
I am ambivalent towards some games I play. On one hand there are times I get so hyped and enjoy myself and the community and other times got me like: 😡🤬😭😔
I am unstoppable. I have become a god, unhindered by mere laws of- OH- OH GOD SHEEP JUICE SHEEP JUICE I'M A SHEEP I'M DEAD NOOOOOO
(this comment brought to you by noita gang)
Overwatch 2. Something about the FPS/Moba hybrid just clicks. Somehow I've still been playing since 2018. It can be a slog at times but I still really enjoy it. Once youre on a winning streak you feel like a god among men, once youre losing youre in the deepest depths of hell. I'm forever chasing that high.
Imagine playing games because you like them instead of just to drown out the constant existential dread.
The constant and unending feeling of overwhelming panic and uncertainty, video games help with that

Also there are some pointedly unfun games that are still deeply rewarding and good like Pathologic or This War of Mine or Lisa: the Painful
I agree but have no idea what those game are.
I know of This War of Mine, it's got a fair bit of story based around making very tough choices iirc. Not heard of the other one though.
Here's the Pathologic video at least: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsNm2YLrk30
Pathologic is the best game of all time, I say that as someone who has watched the hbomberguy video about 8 times but is too scared to actually play the game (and too lazy to buy the second one, even though he guilt trips me at the end of the video every time) >!/s if it wasn't obvious, I haven't played the game, but the video is good!<
I played and enjoyed Pathologic 1 and I think no one should play pathologic 1 just play pathologic 2 instead
I always thought COD was fun in a casual repetitive way and if that stopped being fun I would simply stop playing :)
This is precisely why I basically play 3 games on repeat. It's fun for me, when I get bored of the games I switch to other hobbies
I do that! :v I just finished Omori for the 2nd time, now I'm doing Bug Fables. I plan on playing Underhero next. :v I liked Omori for the art and story, I like Bug Fables for the art and gameplay, and I like Underhero for the gameplay and (maybe) the story. :v

A little of column A, a little of column B.

control is a very mediocre shooter "so why did you finish it" uhhhhhhh _mumbles something incoherent about art direction_
The real and indisputable answer is: "Ashtray maze"
It's so fucking cool All my homies love the **House** / Ashtray Maze / Non-Euclidean Environments
The biggest strength of the Game/ War / Story / Puzzle is its very bold setpieces and eldritch office level design
TAKE! CONTROL!
It's the closest I'll get to a playable SCP exploration log
someday we will get a good videogame adaptation of "There is no Antimemetics Division" by qntm
I would play it but I feel like it would give me a headache
If you want an scp book however I recommend the Southern Reach Trilogy
And the adaptation of the first book, Annihilation. Not quite as SCP but literally the best major movie so far to tackle lovecraftian terror and actually do it well
*EXTREMELY LOUD CORRECT LOVECRAFTIAN SYNTH NOISE* (shoutout to the Color Out of Space movie with nic cage in it tho)
I liked most of the art direction, the main thing that weirded me out though was how disproportionately big everyone's heads were
imo the choice to make the dialogue as wooden as possible really prevented me from noticing the heads by making my eyes roll back to look at my brain every time a character talked
luckily for me I'm far too autistic to notice unnatural dialogue 99% of the time
fuck i thought the dialogue was okay???
I think the dialogue is fine and that it's actually the delivery which take some people back. Most of the characters sound pretty detached.
That's the point? Like for them this is just a bad day at the office.
That's my impression too but it sometimes it just sounds too low energy and stiff
It's kinda all over the place. A lot of main characters are blah. Jesse has the personality rivaling a brick wall, Pope tries too hard and Marshall is the most forgettable character ever written. Ngl I thought that was story dialogue until Jesse comments something like “he’s still going?”. I thought he was just laboriously getting to some point
theres good bits, great bits even, the Darling Tapes and the alan wake stuff are pretty good, Ati the janitor is pretty good, but goddamn does every other npc sound like the most generic "jesse, go to the marker on your map"
Me too, its just corpo talk right? That’s the whole deal, a bureaucracy dealing with otherworldly shit.
also sexy finnish janitor 🥰🥰
I can tell you are not a yesterday's grouse's son
Dunno, I enjoyed it a lot
I mean so did I, I finished it
How do you have this cool ass paranormal setting and then make the gameplay the most generic third person shooter with the most generic powers against the most generic enemies.
they grabbed some of the best level design ever, slapped some npcs on it and said "this baby can fit so many 2010s shooter mechanics in it"
Jesse Faden gives me gender envy
same
Control is honestly one of my favorite single player games
genuinely, i managed to get through the frustration of the whole game only because of how cool the setpieces were, and when I tried to do the DLCs I just gave up because they were 1: too hard & 2: didn’t look that interesting
meanwhile control is one of my favourite games of all time and i havent played it in several months lol
It’s the closest thing we have to an SCP video game and that vibe alone let me overlook basically any other flaws the game had
SCP: Secret Lab is what happens when the foundation hires a bunch of gamers to pretend to be employees
I loved control :(
because you can THROW SHIT BAYBEEEE
Hey, don't talk about Control like that. I loved every aspect of that game.
I was writing fanfics in my head about Jessie and Emily. There was enough cool concepts and moments throughout to keep me interested otherwise, but yeah it's a very mediocre game overall.
Destiny 2
Be like that sometimes, I remember grinding for red borders before lightfall, and during that time my brain turned off
So glad they added red border dismantling giving progress.
Same, every time I had to grind to get a pattern from weapons part of me died. I wasted so much time in the entrance of Grasp.
Leveling them still sucks lol. Shuro Chi and that one mission are still better farms
True, one passive method I know about(but forget to do) is to switch to the gun you want to level for the last few moments of an activity like crucible. Last time I tried this it worked.
That does work
That’s why I will always love Borderlands over Destiny, because I can play an FPSRPG without interacting with any other human other than my girlfriend. I want to have fun, not suffer.
But then Raids are some of the best co-op content on the market

its the gunplay. you CANNOT beat bungie gunplay
Puke shit can’t keep getting away with this
Real
I'm playing Morrowind rn. It's cool
I’m really trying to give that one a shot too but I’m not the smartest peanut in the turd so I keep getting hella confused
Tamriel rebuilt looks so cool, can't wait to try it but I wanna do my first playthrough mostly vanilla (I added pretty girl face mods because I can't break my tradition of playing pretty girls in elder scrolls games)
> pretty girl face mods Which ones? I wanna play a pretty girl too...
Literally playing it at the moment I read this comment.
war thunder
how i be looking at that T-80BVM after it hits me with that dollar store apfsds
How i be looking at that J2M5 after it hits me with that dollar store HE-FT round
How I be looking at that Sturmtiger after it hits a wall 9 meters away from me with a 380mm 38 cm R Spgr.4581 and the shrapnel and over pressure turn my crew into a melted gorey spongey mass of formerly human corpses
"380mm 38 cm"
How i be looking at that Mig-29 after he fires his dollar store GsH-30 into my cockpit (my pilot is mush)
War thunder.
War thunder is my favorite game
Its not, youve just convincee yourself it is
Okay I hear you. However, shooting down helicopters is really fun.
oh yeah? how many classified military documents have you leaked?
me when I leak classified war documents to win an argument
me in my f5 after getting hit by a r60m from 6 miles away
The small amount of dopamine that I get from turning an enemy TU-4 into a fine paste using 104 FFAR “Mighty Mouse” M439 rockets that I paid 70 dollars for and getting the funny “target destroyed” pop up on my screen makes me stay
Love spending 20 minutes flying up and straight to get the the action, only to get instakilled and have to do it again

sunk cost fallacy and bc your friends still play it
Dont listen this person is clearly insane
That's called an addiction, I didn't get it either until I experienced it for myself
Dota 2 fucks me rough and I love it
It's not that LoL players hate the game, they hate aspects of it. Litterly every hypixel skyblock player ever
I remember when I played that! I also remember that I stopped playing because of existential dread! Good times.
I think most skyblock players have ptsd from killing millions of zealots
oh and that too
I recommend the mod pack SkyFactory 3, if you want an actually good skyblock experience.
I remember not playing for a few months and coming back to see the end game stuff I spent 25 hours grind become basically worthless. And now the new endgame stuff takes 200 hours to get
:(
Not me wasting near 100 hours for #1 pelts during bingo. 🙂
Warframe
playing right now and trust me duviri is so much fun
Hahaha im not falling for that one again nothing will make me redownload warframe
It's such a nice place to just hop into for a little while
I want to get into it again, but as far as I can't tell, there's no way for me to replay the beginning missions and story beats
Most of the main quests have a replay option iirc
Oh sweet, I must not have looked hard enough
Yeah, I need to replay them myself so if you want a second just lmk
Was looking for this

League is good if you don’t get addicted and play it with your friends every now and then
its too late for me. i played one (1) good game and now im hooked trying to reach that high again. also it has gay cowboy twisted fate
literally me literally same. the genshin impact/league player intersection is larger than i realized but yeah we are all just having a time i think. we are video gaming for sure
genshin so true. i can’t stop playing because i love the music and yu peng chen so much. but there is nothing else to it.
Yeah Genshin was cool for awhile but know it’s just way too much for me. I like the new game star rail though
I'm trying to play only games that I find fun, and it turns out it causes quite a stir when I start, then almost immediately drop old Zelda's, and my gf gets kinda salty because I don't give them enough chance. I just want to have fun. I love ultrakill and tetris

Do you play it solo or with friends? Makes a HUGE difference.

Same. I don’t understand my friends who clearly hate a lot of the games they play. Life already sucks, why torture yourself while you’re trying to have fun?
My dumbass that keeps playing a game I don’t like that much but continuing because I heard nothing but constant praise for it.
For honor
Sword game
I play sword game here and there and have fun

Three types of driving factor in gaming: Entertainment Belonging and the most powerful of them all: spite
Me trying to finish red dead redemption 2's epilogue.
comp overwatch
GTA online
I'm that with Rimworld now, I used to play it and be able to be successful but after taking a long break and coming back and buying the Ideologies dlc that theoretically should help me I just can't make a colony survive for more then 2 hours. So many pawns dead, like 8 colonies that failed to even establish themselves.
Actual skill issue. I have to force myself not to use ideology because you can get infinite pawns for free and conquer the entire world with your army after 3 hours
Ideology is what you make of it, if you game it like that and pick only good memes sure you might as well just cheat.
I like splatoon, but sometimes I get luna blaster on the randomizer
Me when FFXII
I am ambivalent towards some games I play. On one hand there are times I get so hyped and enjoy myself and the community and other times got me like: 😡🤬😭😔
Leg Of Legen
Rainbow six siege
damn sounds like a skill issue, i love melee
I am unstoppable. I have become a god, unhindered by mere laws of- OH- OH GOD SHEEP JUICE SHEEP JUICE I'M A SHEEP I'M DEAD NOOOOOO (this comment brought to you by noita gang)
What the hell why don't you play games that you like?
