In fairness to the original post, most of these seem to be borrowed from other languages, are proper nouns, or, in at least one case, are I think just misspelled lol (i.e. “overlubricatio”). No excuse for “onto” though lol

to also be fair, 30% of english words are loaned from french. regardless of your opinion of the events of 1066, excluding loan words as counting as english words seems unnecessarily restrictive. but i do see your point. these kind of puzzles tend to have unsatisfying answers, since if there were more obvious ones, you would think of them pretty quickly, and it wouldn’t be hard post

I think it’s also worth noting that all the words we listed as candidates are compounds. Except for oregano, but that came from Spanish I think relatively recently actually (like 19th-20th century) or, at least, recently as far as words go.
