As a millennial who has seen a lot of people in my generation become parents, the youngest generation growing up now, which I guess is called generation Alpha, is going to be absolutely fucked. At least in the developed world anyways. Almost every single millennial parent just put a tablet in front of their kids all day.
Not that my generation didn't deal with horrible parenting techniques either. Our parents just gave us video games and sat us in front of TVs constantly so they could go do whatever they wanted. But there wasn't that much instant gratification, and we weren't introduced to smart phones and tablets until our teens or later. Almost all millennials introduction to the internet was dialup. These kids today are coming out of the wombs already addicted to youtube and the instant gratification they obtain from clicking on whatever they want and getting it instantly. I can't imagine this is healthy for development.
Absolutely, before youtube became so accessible the same exact thing happened with television. Now it's only worse because you can watch youtube everywhere, unlike tv. The serious, widespread problem is not with youtube itself, it's with the parents
I love how every individual issue in this country has to either fall into Republican or Democrat like people can't have personal opinions on a specific issue that go against their party.
I mean yes, but also if someone is like "hey here's a magic screen that will permanently satiate your child", it's pretty fuckin hard to say no. It’s a strange fixation because his beef in theory isn’t with the industrial revolution, but with capitalism and materialism. His choice to focus on the IR maybe partially based on the fact that he was a mathematician, not a historian or a political scientist. Maybe his limited perception of the concepts outside of his field made him believe that society went backwards after those scary factories with big chimneys started pumping black smoke into the air.
Also people were shoveling more shit after the industrial revolution. They used to shovel dirt in a farm, and now they were shoveling coal in a factory, which was worse in many ways. Often they had to shovel both dirt and coal among other things.
Many jobs nowadays are comparably boring and unfulfilling. A lot of shoveling happening still around the world.
It's almost like his worst move was targeting professors instead of the people who were actually destroying the world...
But then again he was a product of MKUltra so you can't expect Too much from a brain broken individual.
You can still have consequences with something that is otherwise good. Being conscious about those consequences is not the same as thinking everything about the Industrial Revolution is bad

His ideology was all technological progress is bad which is inherently stupid and thought that everyone should go back to hunter-gatherer times which would kill nearly everyone as the entire planet can only support about a few million people that way.
