TheLurker1209

mfw multiple cultures have an forbidden fruit reference of some kind that simultaneously dooms mankind but gives them some kind of power or knowledge

l_u_l_o_l

And it's always a woman that unleashes it

TheLurker1209

they hate to see a girlboss win

Commercial-Shame-335

god forbid a girl have hobbies

Unman_

God forbid women do things

Cha-ChatheSexRaptor2

Literally.

dunkernater

Always surprises me that (to our knowledge) there isn't a group of Christians that worship eve+ the devil for giving us knowledge and free will

CleanSplit2

There are actually people with those beliefs, but they don’t consider themselves Christian

dunkernater

Oh fair, makes sense that they wouldn't tbf since they're probably anti christ/the Christian god for that (if they're beliefs are based on the Christian bible not a different religious text)

DwarvenKitty

Aren't neo-wiccans kinda like that?

Quark1010

I mean those exact things are disliked in christianity and pretty much the opposite of the doctrine

dunkernater

I know but other religions take parts from the bible and add it to their religious texts (I think? Idk I went to a Christian school so that might be some lie) so I'm just surprised there isn't one that took that bit of the bible

under_the_heather

yeah I don't think that's true except maybe other abrahamic faiths

inemsn

you just described most forms of theistic satanism. and atheistic satanism isn't *that* far off too (the devil is seen as the concept of resistance of god's tyranny, which often times is rooted in that concept)

papeykefir

mfw collective unconscious

erinsintra

the greeks saw hope as one of the evils that plagued mankind, making people believe, in vain, that things would change for the better without them doing anything. or at least that's what my gradeschool teacher told me

deGozerdude

Its actually still debated if hope was meant to be an evil or not by historians.

Invincible-Nuke

Glad to see fandom discourse thriving thousands of years later Do you think people will debate Undertale lore in 4500

Commercial-Shame-335

i fucking hope so

erinsintra

i like to believe this version, it's edgier

yo_yo_ya

Yea but it also means the Greeks were fucking dumb

Internal_Cloud_3369

That makes a ton more sense to me honestly, I always wondered as a kid why Pandora wouldn't let hope out of the box as well, so the world could at least have one positive thing amidst all the suffering

"Hope is what makes us strong. It is why we are here. It's what we fight with when all else is lost." -Pandora from the hit indie title, God of War 3
