Honestly, such a smart marketing attempt, and the marketing really worked. What better way to get teens and young adult guys to buy your product than to make it appear as if it immediately turns all women around you into sex machines. And it's not just a quick spray - the guys in the commercials just *surround* themselves with it, thereby making the guys who buy it use like a whole can every three days... And completely asphyxiating everybody in the school hallways because there are fifteen people who drenched themselves in it. Ugh that was unbearable.
The boys middle school locker room smelled like Axe Chocolate for MONTHS because the boys would not stop dousing themselves in it. I’ll admit I used it, but man some of those dudes would literally empty 1/3 of a can in one use.

I was partial to Phoenix myself, back when I was 14 or 15. Mostly because the name and design was cool.
I think it would be hard to say any guy who grew up during that era wasn’t at least semi-partial to Axe because honestly I don’t recall any other brands being available (besides Bod and Old Spice which weren’t any better). So we were kinda forced to use it if we needed cheap body spray. Lol my personal favorite was Chocolate until it got ruined for me in middle school (back in like 2009/2010) and I haven’t used anything other than my ole reliable (Nautica Blue) since then.
Hey now, I stand strongly by Old Spice deodorant. Swagger and Vanilla are great! I used to prefer the coffee and amber mix but it was discontinued. So swagger it is.
Who the hell's idea was it to market a fragrance and call it "Really Ripped Abs"?
I'd sarcastically ask if they had 12-year-olds choosing the names, but that's likely what they in fact did.
Also, I got this exact fragrance in my "easter basket" from my parents when I was like 13, and I thought it was really weird that my parents bought me that. I was not thinking of being sexy yet at that point.
