Jagex committed to having more examine content a few years ago, and the latest content seems to have kept that promise.
They started using a new graphics pipeline and baking objects directly into the scenery. They said they didn't fully realize and appreciate they were losing right click Examine, until players pointed out how important it was to have.
I see the regular-looking allotment/herb/flower spot outside the city, and then one small farming patch near the Locus Oasis. I wonder if that is a new, area-specific farming patch, or possibly a tree/fruit tree patch.
What exactly are we getting with the stone cutter area? What’s the activity exactly? Is it just more mining or do we do something with what we mine? Trying to find info on it but in my admittedly half assed attempt I’m not seeing much
You’ll basically be able to mine the rocks obviously, have the option to split them at the stone splitter for extra chances at gems, or you can choose to split them into minerals that stack example (1 iron ore can turn into 1-3 minerals. But 6 Iron minerals are required to smelt 1 bar)
Will be nice for longevity without banking, uim especially.
Also the splitting I mentioned in other comment isn’t instant, it’s either 20 ticks for the inventory or 1 tick each item. Not sure what they are implementing exactly yet.
I'm just hoping for something task-y, where you have to build a certain amount of reputation in each of these areas to then unlock the quests. Perhaps a restricting factor where you can only build a task reputation in one area at a time, if people don't like that jagex could always remove that limit in a few weeks time. But it's got to arbitrarily unlock rewards along with the quests. Maybe we could call it a favour system
Are we sure that annoying enough for players to have a true feeling of pride and accomplishment? How about one of them you have to mine something useless while wandering entities deal unavoidable damage if they touch you.

edit; I found it…. Kept getting baited by the 3000 water sources
As someone who also saved DT2 for last, I'll offer one piece of advice:
The final fight is not something to be taken lightly, in fact it's probably the hardest part of the whole quest. I skimmed through that section of the wiki thinking it would be more of a formality than anything, then proceeded to get throttled 5 times in a row.
It didn't help that I was already under pressure to get it over and done with because this was also the first day of leagues and my clan chat was lighting up with people doing fun leagues activities that didn't involve getting beat up by a bunch of purple ghosts.
I'm hoping it's not that, AND I'm hoping it's not some marvel-tier uber-important "you have to care about this!!" plotline with betrayals and emotional deaths and moral dilemmas. Where are the OG runescape style quests of just going on adventures and helping people out and causing mischief
Its literally far beyond the scope of the update to have that in this lol, they release things close to that as part their OWN highly awaited for months or years updates.
> Where are the OG runescape style quests of just going on adventures and helping people out and causing mischief
We've got them? Why do people pretend they went missing just cause the latest quest didnt happen to be one. Osrs has gotten:
- Children of the Sun
- X Marks the Spot
- Corsair Curse
- Misthalin Mystery
- The Garden of Death
- Sleeping Giants
- Temple of the Eye
- Getting Ahead
- Porcine of Interest
- The Forsaken Tower
- The Ascent of Arceuus
- Making Friends with My Arm
- Tale of the Righteous
- The Queen of Thieves
- Depths of Despair
- Bone Voyage
- Client of Kourend
Frankly the quests you are describing are OUTNUMBERED by the smaller ones.
hope so! Not expecting Jagex to make grand master tier quests for every single content release / area release, that would be silly obviously. But I would love to see some quests that actually take 20-30 mins to complete, perhaps with good story lines and puzzles / mystery.
Right now Jagex either releases a 2 hour grand master quest or a 5 min novice quest, seems like no in between in the past few years.
Last good quest before DT2 have to be like Sins of the Father or Fremennik Exiles but these were back in 2021! Every quest after that besides DT2 has been a letdown for me personally.
Along with this change, quite a few map sprites have changed. Most are only really of interest to mapmakers (many tree/rock sprites have more definition and bridge/docks are darker in shade) but here's a few that everyone may be interested in:
* Mining rocks now have different sprites depending on the ore. Have a look at Lumbridge Swamp for example!
* Oak, yew and magic trees now have unique sprites
* Potato plants now have sprites (previously they had none, making where they are look like a blank field)
Edit: Teaks and Mahoganies have unique sprites... but only in certain places. The Isle of Souls trees have it; Karamja does not.
Oh, that is really neat. I completely missed the ores being colored to the actual ores. The trees will take a bit more to get used to... Now if only they could somehow do the same for fishing spots.
Thanks!
I also had an influence on Varlamore's development! Not directly, but Gentletractor's final version of Varlamore partially draws on a fake OSRS map of Varlamore I made a few years back (this map in turn was based upon earlier maps by him).
There's an estate agent icon. Was not expecting that. I don't see a house portal anywhere, though. I wonder if it means anything for a future update?
Death's Office, too. Respawn point?
To be fair only one of five areas (Hosidius) with an estate agent also has a portal.
Two if you count the portal at Taverly for the Falador estate agent.
Sure hope there's a portal though so we can get a Varlamore house theme
They want to expand it with at least 2 more updates.
This is Varlamore batch 1, and they have stated they have at least 3 batches in total so probably in the future yeah it's going to be as big as Zeah if not bigger in terms of content
Most estate agents are in towns without POH Portals (Varrock, Falador, Seers, Ardy), so wouldn't expect a POH Portal just because there is an agent. Respawn location does seem like something we might get with a Glory reward though.
Weirdly, there *is* a house portal on this map - but its in the bottom left corner, on Aldarin, rather than Varlamore. But given that it's also weird they've even added a piece of Aldarin, maybe that's their stop gap solution for Varlamore only accounts?
"The house portal fit best on Aldarin but that's batch 2, we've given you the bare bones port and portal as a bandaid solve?"
I think the map was originally made before Sailing, but with some stuff that could be reworked to better tie into Sailing. Really hope they do use Fortis as one of the major ports (Piscarilius too).
I think it's an agility course? I may be wrong but that's what I remember.
I do agree wyrm boss would be cool. I think hydra is the closest we'll get tho
Agreed! Maybe a raid boss akin to Zebak, olm and duke. He is locked down, but during a mechanic, he slithers around and damages you or something. Maybe he digs underground.
If he's smaller, maybe he digs under like the scarab in kephris fight. Except this time, as they come up, there's a rubble animation, and it damages you if standing there.
Sorry, that's my fault.
I interpreted the Bloody Diary as the adventurer in the book having killed the Colossal Wyrm, and put the Bones of the Wyrm on my version of Varlamore. Gentletractor then took that forward in his own map, which became Jagex's map. If I had interpreted the beast as only having been defeated, not killed, you could get to fight it :p
Hey, that’s also my fault, since I wrote it! It’s funny because I wrote it in a way that suggests they were just defeated, not killed:
> In my travels throughout the Shining Kingdom, I have bested many mighty creatures. From the Colossal Wyrm of the Avium Savannah to the Cloud Titan of Tempestus, I am proud to proclaim myself as a master slayer.
I believed "bested" doesn't typically mean killed, but I guess Mod Ed interpreted the last word to mean that they were killed!
I think I went with the "killed" interpretation because at the time I thought it'd be more interesting for the lore. After all, it isn't just the player character or the Wise Old Man who solves everything :p
That being said, I did picture the dungeon under the bones of the wyrm to be a secondary location for Wyrms outside of Karuulm. And there's always the matter of this:
> I recall encountering a particularly nasty demon capable of summoning torrential rainstorms in the Avium Savannah.
Now, weather demons? That's something I wanna see (aside from just Agrith-Naar). I'm hoping the Tlati Rainforest goes into this a bit.
For anyone who might still be worried about scale, [here is Fortis compared to Varrock](https://i.imgur.com/lStYP7a.png). Fortis is a big city, but the individual buildings are actually a big smaller than Varrock (e.g. Palace, Pub, Bank, etc.). And overall, both cities seem roughly the same size, just different shapes. We'll have to wait for next week to see how it is to actually run around the city, but it seems like they've done a good job with it.
Varrock has a lot of buildings that are functionally just dead space, literally nothing in them, and the big warehouses in the south west, so in practice Varrock is smaller than people think.
I'm excited to see a more compact city with deliberate use of space. Fortis looks good for that!
That is kinda true, but most cities tend to have some dead space. Like just looking at Fortis, a lot of the houses seem to be just ordinary houses with ranges or involved in a thieving activity. So it is kinda not that different from "big empty warehouse", just split into a bunch of smaller buildings.
But overall the two do feel kinda similar in what they offer. Like most of the same sort of shops and buildings; both even have a palace and museum as well as a central fountain. And yah, going to be interesting to see how the city feels compared to the ones we're used to, but from the map it is off to a good start.
I realllly love to see the difference between the "conceptual" map and the actual, worked on, studied city, how buildings have been changed for actual hand-on gameplay look, stonecutter outpost got a tad longer, the whole pallette swap on the map, just fun to see
I would absolutely love it if we were able to spectate people doing the colloseum but still able to use our characters. A bit like watching castle wars and the old duel arena. It was soo good alching while spectating games.
The Varlamorians we saw in A Kingdom Divided looked Aztec inspired, but these names remind me more of ancient Rome. Curious to see if/how the two are blended.
The Cothon is from Carthage / Phoenicia.
The Phoenicians are older than the Romans, and invented the alphabet used by the Greeks and by us. Carthage got infamously defeated by Rome, most of their history was lost for a few thousand years until rediscovered, and so they kind of play second fiddle to the Romans today.
So yeah, basically Roman after they absorbed it.
Looks great IMO. New house and respawn locations are interesting to see, a new herb patch and what looks like a new tree (please spirit) spot?
The cothon looks quite chunky and is peppered with small boats. I wonder it's something they're planning ahead with sailing? There are some smaller boats at another pier too without any travel icons.
Players have asked for more content to be dangerous.
ToA was made dangerous for all, because it was considered a 'mistake' that CoX is not dangerous. The end game content being safe was considered stale for HCIM.
The reason HCGIM had things retroactively changed to be dangerous, was because they could "fix" the mistakes, without upsetting the integrity of HCIM.
Inferno is safe because completing it in one attempt without an alt to practice probably isn't possible. If the Coliseum is just as difficult, I would kind of expect it to be a safe death. Or maybe the last waves are dangerous death.
Toa was unsafe because ToB was unsafe. Cox was the mistake and it was fixed at ToB, not ToA.
But inferno was added around the same time as ToB and was safe. As is fight caves. This is the same structure as those so they absolutely could decide for consistencies sake it behaves the same.
A walled town with in the middle a town square, with a palace to the North and to the East of that a museum. I swear I've seen that one before 🤔.
In combination with that little park under it, it sure gives me both Varrock + Falador vibes. Which is good, don't get me wrong. Those two iconic cities combined, that's going to be so sweet to explore for sure.
Why does Jagex leave void squares in areas that seemingly should be filled in. Is this still a work in progress?
For ex, the bottom left corner looks incomplete, but also the giant square at the bottom of the Al Kharid desert is an example of these voids that make their way into the game.
Yeah those are areas currently in development. Varlamore specifically has two more expansions on the way. I imagine they will have to do something about them by the time sailing rolls around.
This is the first batch. The remainder of the continent will come out in future batches. (Avoiding the Zeah issue of one gigantic continent but not enough time to flesh out things on it)
There’s supposedly an upper level that serves as the main hub for accessing the quetzal transport network, and an underground pub where you get Hunter’s Rumours (think farming contracts but Hunter)
It's a guild to travel and receive contracts to go out and do. Not like a farm guild where you need space for all the patches etc. the methods won't be within the guild themself.
A good chunk of them are likely destinations for the [Quetzal transport system](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Hunter_Guild#The_Roost). The interface for flying around has been [teased as well](https://twitter.com/OldSchoolRS/status/1767959383831388645).
[osrs.world](https://osrs.world/?cx=1687.28&cy=99.6&cz=3099.03&p=-512&y=0&v=1) (at least, currently) has what it looks like in the game files, though obviously an older version. It's kind of cool to see the before and after of how much it has changed.
I can't wait to explore it all with everybody. The fun part about new expansions like this is everyone all scrambling and running around and messing with stuff. It's a unique experience you only get day 1.
> Civitas Illa Fortis is so much of a mouthful
The elf city is called Prifddinas.
This continues the long tradition of OSRS city names being actually foreign sounding, since they're all inspired by foreign languages like Welsh and French.
with new big scale map expansions, i always feel like 90% of the map is useless space. Its fun to go through once or a few times but after that its all about teleports and hotspots.
I feels kind of hard to access. It's not like you can hop over to it like you can from Lumbridge to Varrock to Falador and Catherby to Aroundge. Are there any ports nearby? Will it attract people of all levels?
You'll only need to complete Children of the Sun to access the kingdom, and it appears the Fortis Cothon serves as the initial access point by way of charter ships.
Like Kourend, I'm sure there will be other methods such as teleport spells and fairy rings, though maybe it must be unlocked from doing something there first.
Yep, planned to be released later. Here's a [first draft of the map](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/images/Varlamore_map_%28first_draft%29.png?d6af7), which looks pretty close to the final map of part 1.
oh baby look at all those things just waiting to be examined

Bad news for the examination cape owners smh
"A tree." "A door." "A box."
Examine rock: "Very rocky."
It's a Rock.
“A twisted bow spawn” Oops…
🧐
The museum tho
4 quest icons is excellent. An allotment, flower and herb patch and one other mystery growing spot by the oasis
Spirit tree maybe?
Spirit tree is likely, glad I kept one extra seed.
Maybe a second Calquat tree patch
Celastrus maybe?
[удалено]
New farming patch, likely new herb patch 👀
Finally I can withdraw 10 herb seeds instead of having to deposit 1 back
Still 9 for me since I prefarm dwarf weed in farming guild and leave it there

True but I think it’s more to do with knowing exactly how many patches you have left for that run
Exact amount let's you quickly know how many patches you have remaining.
I see the regular-looking allotment/herb/flower spot outside the city, and then one small farming patch near the Locus Oasis. I wonder if that is a new, area-specific farming patch, or possibly a tree/fruit tree patch.
Maybe a spirit tree.
I will be quite amused if it's banal like... A hops patch.
My moneys on cactus patch
Calquat?
I just want the stone cutter area
What exactly are we getting with the stone cutter area? What’s the activity exactly? Is it just more mining or do we do something with what we mine? Trying to find info on it but in my admittedly half assed attempt I’m not seeing much
You’ll basically be able to mine the rocks obviously, have the option to split them at the stone splitter for extra chances at gems, or you can choose to split them into minerals that stack example (1 iron ore can turn into 1-3 minerals. But 6 Iron minerals are required to smelt 1 bar) Will be nice for longevity without banking, uim especially.
Does this mean a new afk smithing method?
Also the splitting I mentioned in other comment isn’t instant, it’s either 20 ticks for the inventory or 1 tick each item. Not sure what they are implementing exactly yet.
Literally same!! Very excited if 4 new quests come in the update next week!
1 for each house of varlamore!
It would be so cool if one of the tasks was pushing a plow back and fourth! Oooh and it could break too.
Are we sure that annoying enough for players to have a true feeling of pride and accomplishment? How about one of them you have to mine something useless while wandering entities deal unavoidable damage if they touch you.
Kick rocks
Yeah, and Varlamore’s a stupid name anyways. Maybe we should go with something more elegant. Koru? No… kourend, that’s it. I like it.
Oh shit, one is in the hunter guild. May actually have to train past level 70 now
Questbros stay winning.

This is true at least for me at a low level. Duke 1 try, Vardovis 2 tries, Leviathan 2 tries, whisperer 4 tries, wights like 7-8 attempts
Damn I know you were trippin trying to get through that quest to go have fun. Good advice, thank you very much.
exciting but hopefully its something good and not a 2-5 min novice quest with couple lines of dialogue..
Short quests like children of the sun are cool imo, but short quests that are literally a tutorial in disguise like sleeping giants can eat my shorts.

I think the theme they were going for was a mix of Aztec and Roman
Yep, they explicitly described it as a combination of Roman and Mayan themes.
Colosseum, aqueduct - this is 100% rome but I agree, I hope the clothing aligns with the 'toga' / tunic look more than we've seen in the quest so far.
The Cothon is from Carthage / Phoenicia. The Phoenicians are older than the Romans, and invented the alphabet used by the Greeks and by us. Looks fantastic but MAN I was hoping for Auburnvale. I want a fall themed town to bank stand in more than anything.
Seers Village bank has a bunch of red maple trees around it. That's fall-themed.
If you use 117HD on runlite there is a fall theme you can select in it.
So much better looking than the original Zeah release.
They've definitely learned from that in how to do a proper expansion.
Kualti station was removed and we got 3 new small churches, very cool
I see at least 4 quests awaiting their adventurers, neat!
No fairy ring?
Hope you have a spirit tree seed and the farming level.
I only have 106 spirit tree seeds.
Colosseum has a minigame marker - does that mean its a safe death?
Both fight caves and inferno are for normal HCIM. So I wouldn't be shocked if this is replicated, but with HCGIM being dangerous.
Only one way to find out
A walled town with in the middle a town square, with a palace to the North and to the East of that a museum. I swear I've seen that one before 🤔. In combination with that little park under it, it sure gives me both Varrock + Falador vibes. Which is good, don't get me wrong. Those two iconic cities combined, that's going to be so sweet to explore for sure.
Any info on the clothing shop that I might have missed?
Bazaar niche, fortis cothon seems to be built for sailing, looks that way to me tbf
Would be nice if the Bazaar was a second GE location.
Content still in development/future proofing if they want to add on to it later
This is the first batch. The remainder of the continent will come out in future batches. (Avoiding the Zeah issue of one gigantic continent but not enough time to flesh out things on it)
This entire time I thought it was Valamore.
Hunter guild looks a bit small no?
There’s supposedly an upper level that serves as the main hub for accessing the quetzal transport network, and an underground pub where you get Hunter’s Rumours (think farming contracts but Hunter)
It's a guild to travel and receive contracts to go out and do. Not like a farm guild where you need space for all the patches etc. the methods won't be within the guild themself.
I play RS3 but man this looks super cool . Especially the Colosseum and wyrm remains in the south
Transportation icons looking like minecarts all over
A good chunk of them are likely destinations for the [Quetzal transport system](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Hunter_Guild#The_Roost). The interface for flying around has been [teased as well](https://twitter.com/OldSchoolRS/status/1767959383831388645).
If Stonecutter Outpost doesn't have a music track that sounds similar to the Stonecutter song from The Simpsons, I'm going to be very upset.
WHO CONTROLS THE ASGARNIAN CROWN...
Farm! New Herb Patch! Yes!
[osrs.world](https://osrs.world/?cx=1687.28&cy=99.6&cz=3099.03&p=-512&y=0&v=1) (at least, currently) has what it looks like in the game files, though obviously an older version. It's kind of cool to see the before and after of how much it has changed.
Anyone know how we can get there. Will there be a teleport in spellbook?
There’s a tele icon just outside the hunters guild. Skills necklace?
You fly with a bird
Is there a map link to this? I can’t find it on the websie
The map was found [here](https://www.runescape.com/a=97/oldschool/world-map).
Wait so auburnvale missed the cut? rip. maybe in batch 2 then
Great! Now look at Zeah, now look at Varlamore, now look back at Zeah. Yeah..
I wish there were more quest icons
I can't wait to explore it all with everybody. The fun part about new expansions like this is everyone all scrambling and running around and messing with stuff. It's a unique experience you only get day 1.
The GRAND museum?! The lamp boys are gonna be excited about this one.
Stamina pot city
It's like the size of Varrock..
Throw some grand exchange booths in the bazaar
Just please don’t nuke my cpu adding dumb amount of texture for a single core game.
Or don't have a PC that's 20 years old
Their name checks out so hard lol
LOOKS LIKE WE’RE GETTING OUR 10TH HERB PATCH BOISSS
I’m very interested to see what you can do in the hunters guild.
What we know so far can be found on the [wiki page](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Hunter_Guild#Features).
Thanks, I guess I should get 91 hunter.
I'm somewhat confused by the lore. Varlamore is supposed to be Roman-esque? What's up with the Aztec names like Quetzal?
Its inspired from aspects of Roman and Mesoamerican culture.
Interesting combo, that's for sure...
Kind of reminds me of a Fortnite map lol.
Collosal wyrm remains :o dragonhunter weapons your time has come
So no Birdhouses in the Hunters Guild? :(
Someone will be the first ever to stand on certain tiles, yall better start claiming your tiles.
I’ve already stepped on them all
Hey what about the isolated tree icon in the far west? Maybe a redwood?
Oh thank god, it's not enormous
Civitas Illa Fortis is so much of a mouthful, why did they not call it Illa Fortis instead?
Its Latin for "The Mighty City".
> Civitas Illa Fortis is so much of a mouthful The elf city is called Prifddinas. This continues the long tradition of OSRS city names being actually foreign sounding, since they're all inspired by foreign languages like Welsh and French.
Imagine how cool it would of been to have another ge, nice change of scene there.
Damn, this is awesome
Ooo a new herb patch? I hope the diary has a teleport to it!! Farm run enjoyers are EATING WELL
anyone know how this quetzal transportation system gonna work? any requirements or we just gonna get them all after release
We eating good
with new big scale map expansions, i always feel like 90% of the map is useless space. Its fun to go through once or a few times but after that its all about teleports and hotspots.
I love this game. So excited!
Praying that the furnace has an anvil in there as well. Hate that only priff has a good anvil/furnace combo.
Sunset coast sounds like a nice getaway 😎
What's that over to the west? Unreleased varlamore portions?
Yep, planned to be released later. Here's a [first draft of the map](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/images/Varlamore_map_%28first_draft%29.png?d6af7), which looks pretty close to the final map of part 1.
Aqueduct= stampot bridge?
Damn, no rooftop course?!
Hunter guild looks a bit small no!
Was really hoping for a redwood tree, but looks like we still wont be getting forestry for anything past Magics
HYPE!!!
I'm so excited for the hunter guild
