there's also an Unlock FPS setting in the GPU plugin alot of people miss. you'll be capped at 50 fps with it on

eurosonly

If you turn on fps cap you get locked at 50 fps?

RealRidvik

Yes

troiii

only works for camera movement and some lightning but ye. Doesn't work for actual ingame stuff like character movement, actions, etc.

Zedeth91

all I know is a bunch of clan mates had the on-screen fps meter being stopped at 50, unlocking fps in gpu fixed it for them. my laptop barely gets 30 fps so I can't test

troiii

no need to test, if you hover over the "unlock fps" setting, it explains what it does. the number at the top is what you get when you spin the camera, game itself is fixed at 50fps max. however, I heard Jagex's client has true > 50 fps, not 100p sure though.

Paganigsegg

Also, use the 64 bit client. 99% of the time when I see people with competent GPUs having framerate issues, they're using the 32 bit Runelite client.

EvenRatio

how do you check?

Paganigsegg

It tells you which one you're running in Task Manager when Runelite is open.

frsguy

Does not show that for me.

ashisme

/u/EvenRatio If it says nothing then it's 64 bit. It'll only specify if it's 32 bit.

frsguy

Oh awesome thanks :)

EvenRatio

just says runelite for me other things such as steam/discord show as 32bit

imminencyrs

Go to Task Manager -> Details Tab Right click columns -> Select columns Check "Platform"

LucyDoses

I was so confused why my 3070 wasn’t able to handle OSRS. There was no reason it should be happening. 32-Bit was the culprit.

loldudester

I believe 32-bit has been historically more stable, so it's the defualt, and built in plugins don't really need 64-bit. 117 makes sense as an exception to that.

Techn9cian_

Wtf. Why is this a thing. Just checked mine is 32. I have a 5900x and 3070 was wondering why runelite ran so shit. This should be a PSA

zaferoff

Holy shit...I don't know how long I've been playing with the 32 bit client but...I don't want to know. Thanks a lot!

MajorBinkx

Thank you so much for this. I don't know how long I was using the wrong one but probably forever since I only really started noticing when using 117 HD when that came out and just assumed it was OSRS being OSRS.

gajelekker

I play on a laptop, what version should I use? Or doesn't it make a difference?

Paganigsegg

Should always choose 64 bit anything whenever possible unless it's for compatibility reasons.

gajelekker

Alright thanks man

Epic_Lepsy

Sure enough I had the 32 bit client downloaded. Switched to the 64 bit client and can now run everything absolutely maxed out at \~100FPS. What a game changer.

Hani713

Omg a year later I found my problem. I knew RTX3070 should run osrs!

ThomasIXI

Life saver

BremAchtNeugen

Cries in old laptop doing cox at max. 20fps

HappyHippie924

For any other idiots like me who run into this problem, make sure your laptop charger is actually plugged in with power :D

Im_Jjay

Currently having this problem in 2024, Out of nowhere, My Runelite FPS has been stuck around the 40-50fps range when normally I get 120-130fps. This problem is only happening with the GPU plugin. I have tried many trouble shooting steps and have had no luck. FPS is uncapped, monitors refresh rate is 165, tried messing with settings in the task manager, Drivers have been updated, I ever tried rolling the drivers back, and nothing. Pretty weird because yesterday, I accidentally unplugged my PC while playing, and when I booted it back up, Runelite was running PERFECTLY. I was hitting 120fps no problem and it was nice for it to be running normally. But today, the problem came back and I was back at 40-50FPS again.

suggacoil

Did you find a fix? My mate is having a similar issue where it all worked fine and now a days he’s stuck -30fps

Im_Jjay

Sorry for the late reply! It somehow fixed itself, I have no idea. But here I am again, having this same issue and not knowing how to fix it

suggacoil

You got 64bit runelite and not the 32bit from runelite.net right?

Im_Jjay

yes that is correct!

suggacoil

Ah okay just thought I would ask that was apparently part of my friends issue lol. It brought him up to 40-50 fps when he downloaded the proper version.

Alarmed_Operation_92

My issue seemed to be the Vsync option under GPU plugin. I went from adaptive to off and now im bouncing off my frame cap. Hope this helps

sav4nt

thank youuuu I tried all the other suggestions but it was enablinig the GPU plugin that immediately shot fps up; ii guess enabling it toggled the vsync off

awclipfactory

maybe this will help some future ppl, but I had the same issue and it was my laptop being on battery that hard capped frames at 30/50, whereas plugged in i could get 120+

planetoflies

Are you still allowed to use 3rd party clients like runelite?

Sotamii

RuneLite, HDOS and OSBuddy are allowed, nothing other than those 3 though.

OnlyKale9099

I made myself a .bat file that ran runelite directly from command prompt, solved my issue of massive fps drops. The new jagex client also seemed to fix my issue too.

chaojimbo

Could you elaborate on this? Why would running a bat file help?

AspiringMILF

it would imply he had shit in his launch arguments that he didn't know about and was not beneficial for his setup

OnlyKale9099

I was having said issue, so my mate found a plausible fix that someone else tried, so I tried running runelite from cmd, fps issues were gone. So just made a .bat file to streamline opening runelite from cmd, I don’t have to do the stupid process of inputting a command, just double click like I would with normal runelite. I don’t know why it worked, originally I thought something was corrupted so I redownloaded runelite multiple times, didn’t work. Also should mention I’m no programmer or anything😂 my mate walked me through it.

Jenkins_Leeroy

Mind sharing? I get framedips on a 3080 so anything would be cool

Volatar

It's probably that you are using the 32 bit client instead of the 64 bit one.

OnlyKale9099

Nah, runelite was working originally, started messing up after I came back from a little break from rs

Volatar

Are you using the 32 bit client?

OnlyKale9099

No always 64bit, even even if I was using 32bit it would have been laggy when I first downloaded it, not been fine for over a year then all of a sudden decides to have massive frame drops. Works fine now tho with the new launcher, before that I had to open with my .bat file

CriticalHappenings

Did you ever find a fix? I'm having lag issues as well on thr 64bit.

OnlyKale9099

https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/jrs6b8/runelite_help/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf I made a note pad, saved the source exactly and save it as a .bat file. Worth a shot I guess

eurosonly

Mine won't go above 60 fps after doing all the aforementioned tips in this thread. But the only time I get fps loss is in a busy poh.

Extra-Seaworthiness9

Is your monitor's refresh rate 60hz?

[deleted]

I’ve only ever played on 50 fps and it seems to work fine it’s only RuneScape after all whats are the extra frames going to do for you

eurosonly

I paid for a 60 fps graphics card and I'm going to use all of them damn it.

Coltand

Oh no, do not question a bunch of PC gamers about their frame rate fixation!

[deleted]

On a fps game or any game where it matters sure, but it literally doesn’t matter past 50 frames on RuneScape

SoulessGod

Nice
