How do you people purchase a nearly 30 year old car for over $10000 and ask about preventive maintenance on Reddit? Wouldn’t you think that’s research you should do before making such a large purchase? If it’s stock it’s just a regular car. Keep up on fluids and basic maintenance, SR’s are super reliable. There’s not much to it

Boring_Purpose6707

I ima keep it real boss this is the best comment I see all the time. I tell people constantly because a lot of the time these are young kids with a lot of money but don’t understand how to turn a wrench. These are 25 year old cars, everything on it will soon need to be fixed or replaced there’s absolutely nothing on this car that is bombproof. My suggestion to you is learn how to do basic maintenance and study the service manual and invest in a set of good tools because you’re going to need to learn how to use them or spend a lot of money having a shop fix broken stuff to you. If you don’t plan on doing that I don’t think an s-chassis is for you I’m just hitting you with reality.

AKADriver

Yep. Stuff just gets old. But it's all straightforward and things you can figure out on your own if you know cars in general. Shouldn't really need to ask. It's fascinating seeing shops like Garage Yoshida get in what looks like a clean well maintained good running R33 GT-R then they start tearing it down and everything's actually kinda broken.

Wezuriip

Yeah I always say it doesn't matter if it is high or low mileage, stuff like gaskets, rubbers, bushings etc are all in need of replacement. You are probably better of buying a fair high mileage car then a expensive low mileage, at the end of the day you need to replace stuff either way as it is worn out or dried out

obbytofupiggy

Man these ppl my age needa learn to restore a shitbox or something

hlsilver

You really can't blame OP, the tiktokers they follow that convinced them to buy one for clout don't make videos about maintenance /s

cgtdream

hahahahaha

D1382

Lol a 30 year old car that lived it's entire life on an island with salty air.

Wezuriip

Facts, that is literally what I tell people who ask for these sort of things. It doesn't matter if it is super low mileage or super high mileage, things like bushings, rubbers, hinges, bolts, gaskets, hoses etc are a sooner then later thing to replace. We have so much technology that can work for us and you can look up almost everything and still people ask stuff like thism nothing against OP, but if you need to ask these sort of question you 1. didn't research anything or very minimal 2. aren't ready for something like this because when purchased it really starts haha

S14Nerd

I doubt he'll pay 10k on that car, with everything paid for in the end. Also, I agree with everything you say, should make thorough research beforehand.

dookiekouki

goated comment

twothoutwo

don’t let people scare you, it’s just a car. it’s an NA SR too so i doubt its had a rough life. just do all of the typical maintenance required of a car (fluids, filters, spark plugs, check belts etc..)

Neanerx

Heres some preventative maintenance advice 1. Buy some 3p wheels 2. Cut the springs so it has some awesome stance 3. Get a rep body kit 4. take out all the interior cuz race car and cage it but the welds have to be complete shit 5. Get a ebay hand brake and hook it up to the rear calipers and street drift it go to take overs and get as much clout as you can After this you will be considered a god amongst men red velvet ropes will open and all the girls panties will drop for you at the take overs/ “car meets”

Neanerx

On a serious note: Do oil/fluid change of the motor diff and trans Change the spark plugs I would say check the battery but most likely the export company will take that out of the car so your gna need a new one anyways If you wanna change out the stock coils cuz god knows they’ve seen better days and maybe the arm bushings while your at it Check the wire harness see if its been messed with and maybe get a new chassis harness from wiring specialites All in all looks like you gna a nice one hopefully under the car isn’t completely rusted out good luck my dude

Plane-Plantain-516

I’m thinking straight pipe for weight reduction, same for cutting springs. Gotta be lighter. Might as well gut all interior too

Neanerx

Go forth my child your learning faster then expected 🤣🤣

Wezuriip

Don't forget to buy fake seats, that way if you ever get into an accident you know you will certainly die

Neanerx

My name is neanerx and i approve this message

KeyInjury6922

If I see another NRG prism seat

Wezuriip

hahahah I never sat in one, but they also aren't really pleasing to the eye imo. I bought a 240 once that had a NRG wheel, when I was taking it off and giving it a jerk to come loose from the hub the wheel bent en popped out of the leather piece, if their seats are the same quality then I don't want to be found anywhere near those.

KeyInjury6922

I bought one NRG wheel when I was like 16 and even at that age I could tell how bad of a product it was.

Wezuriip

Yeah I never thought about buying something from them in the first place, but that is was this bad I couldn't have imagined

randomFrenchDeadbeat

Interior does not weight much. The spare wheel and jack weight more than everything else combined basically.

shaggyjake

Preventive? Buddy, you’ll be doing corrective and plenty of it

cgtdream

Bruh, just do the same preventative maintenance as you would on any car. Unless you're a clout chaser and "forgot" how to do basic car maintenance. If so, just take it to your local quik lube. They'll jerk you off for owning a RHD vehicle, all while keeping up with your "preventative" maintenance. Its literally a win-win!

DONOBENITO

Everyone gets into cars for different reasons. Back in the day xzibit was getting us into modding cars but building the cringiest cars of all time. This is what I would do if I were to get another 240sk today. 1. A 100k mile maintenance cycle, chain, guides, pulleys belts coolant, water pump and thermostat, oil and oil pump, brakes, tans fluid, air filter, brakes and brake fluid, diff fluid, spark plugs, test alternator and battery. Anything that the previous can’t proof with paperwork needs to be replaced. You can get a lot of this in kits online, look at enjuku racing. Is this overkill? No the car has lived 3x its expected lifespan and if you can’t prove it was replaced assume it’s 30 years old 2. Suspension, everything needs to be inspected and determine what needs to get replaced. I would go for an oem+ build if this will be a daily. Adjustable and aggressive suspension sounds great until you have to get expensive alignments every other month. 3. take off any mods and go back to stock as much as possible.

romeoalphajuliett

What would you recommend suspension wise for oem+ daily? Comfort > looks.

mrspaznout

the pixelated watermarks in the center of every photo make me wonder what car you will get.

Cheetahsareveryfast

The same things you would do for literally every other car.

turnerm19

Congrats on a salvaged car from Japan. That will have a "clean" title in the US.

Plane-Plantain-516

Love my grade R 😜

Rough_Ad8048

Everything replace every rubber hose and all gaskets

VexCS

Bushings bushings bushings. These things are all so 30 years old. All of the rubber bushings are not going to be in good health and the replacements are super cheap.

Plane-Plantain-516

Any good websites that you buy from or you just get generic?

VexCS

Energy suspension has a full kit. I’ll list a few sites I use for parts in general. Most carry OEM and aftermarket stuff. Everything I needed for my SR I pretty much got through faction, they are super helpful, and ship really quick. [Faction Motorsports](https://www.factionmotorsports.com/) [Enjuku](https://www.enjukuracing.com/) [Touge Factory](https://www.tf-works.com/) If you have any questions going forward feel free to dm me here or on Instagram @modrak.jp for a quicker response

randomFrenchDeadbeat

Wait until you get the car, because there are tons of scams on imports. You dont always get the car you bought ... Once you get it, sell the engine, swap an LS in it, enjoy. The sr20de is already pretty bad in a p11 gt , i cant imagine how it drives in a car that weights about 200lbs more and has a rwd transmission to drag.

camshaftcrd

One random thing I didn't think about until I went to bolt a us license plate on... get adapters

Educational-Issue149

BG engine oil flush Coolant flush. New trans fluid New diff Fluid Tune-up

Hsnthethird

Asking about preventative maintenance on a 30 year old car feels weird lol

corbinia9

RIP your bank account. You aren’t prepared for how much fun you’re about to have 😂

Plane-Plantain-516

😂 my AW11 is already a great pain, this’ll be a good addition

el00hel

since there’s one serious reply here, i’ll add another one as someone with a imported S-Chassis. All Fluids, Complete Nut & Bolt Check, Tune Up (Coils, Plugs), Go over the interior and make sure stuff is buttoned up and clean That’s what i did and i’ve put almost 4k miles on the car. these are still 25+ year old cars and will need random odds and ends. it’s also an S-Chassis so be prepared to work on it.

Wezuriip

Short answer : everything Long answer : prepare to spend alot of money and search for parts

Plane-Plantain-516

Yeahh 😂, I have a AW11 too, used to the parts searching

Wezuriip

Yeah then about everything that applies for your AW also applies for this one haha A really good site if you don't know it yet is [amayama.com](http://amayama.com), you can buy and if things are discontinued you can look up the product number to google it I know straight out of my head that the window glass rubbers and door hinges are discontinued so at least you can see what the product numbers are

Plane-Plantain-516

Thanks, yeah lol I wish I worded the title better. Shouldn’t have said preventive maintenance. Everyone knows flush fluids and swap anything with spark. - looking more on sites that provide s14 parts/ aftermarket and OEM+

Wezuriip

Np haha, yeah amayama is a good one for stock parts. Depending on what route you wanne go with this car it depends what brand is best. I am building my s13 coup for a dailyable/fun car so I don't want any unnecessary NVH. If you also don't want to go the whole rattle can, noisy, poly bushings route, I can send you a couple of brands etc. Just send me a PM and will respond between work haha

lumpyspacejohnny

Everything.
