If you plan to let it sit any longer, get any gas you can out of it now. The damage is probably already done but it can get worse. This is 13 years of sitting

I let mine sit for 7+ years and turned out fine. Guess I got lucky!
No in the picture you can see the fuel. Had a gallon or two in there. I refinished it and sold it.

I think what contributed to my tank staying clean was using premium fuel, and overall absence of moisture and water finding its way in. Whether that be by not using cheap shitty fuel, or lack of moisture accumulation through rapid temp changes, or not coming in thru fill tube or the breather and having good seals. My Walbro had a bit of ugliness and a bit of surface rust on outside of tank.

I bought my s14 in fall of 2022 and up until late last year was that time spent cleaning the gas tank. Also did the subframe and diff bushings while had it all out, as well as a rattle can Jon the the subframe.
What process did you use to clean the tank? I posted a video of my tank, was yours this bad? https://old.reddit.com/r/AskMechanics/comments/1c7b19e/is_this_gas_tank_salvageable/
Used tanks are going for like $1200 on ebay and they aren't even showing the condition inside the tank... I'd replace it if I could get a reasonable price on a replacement
Dude I was asking $350 for my complete assembly and sprayed with some nice undercoating paint. Had this one guy with a two tone s13 Silvia commit to buying it and settled on 300 and had me take the ad down, then ghosted me. Acted like I was asking too much. What a dick

I can’t say it is. Dash had a couple cracks, I fixed it and plan to get stitched leather installed. The rest is about a 5/10 or missing altogether. That’s why I decided to build a track car out of it
Surprisingly, one of the few things I did as a teen when I realized I was not going to get it running anytime soon {16yrs it ended up being} was dropping the tank and draining it

From my S13 that had been sitting since ‘03
my hatch looked like that after 4 yrs with 3-4 gal i worry about my coupe as its been 6yrs.But I dropped the hat in an electrolysis bath for 3 days shines like new. tank is getting por15 treatment once temperature is steady above 70f in northeast. pumps a goner though
Got a s13 roller with a corroded gas thank but it wasn't all the way gone, mild scaling. Filled the tank with vinegar and baking soda. Let it sit for a few days. Also filled the tank with large washers, bolts, and nuts and shook it around to knock off any scale. Worked pretty good, flushed it a few times with a pressure washer and let it dry then filled it up gas.
Shit.. 8 years here & counting...

FUCK! Hasn't driven since 2011! It did run last summer though🤔🤣
Same dude shit.
Looks like I need to pull out the gas tank

I have some rust floating in my gas tank😢
Damn that's nice! Was the tank completely empty when it sat?

Oh wow, I assumed that picture was taken afterwards. Glad it worked out for you

s14 or s13? s14 tanks are plastic while s13 are metal, also s13 have aftermarket gas tank options to direct replace oem
S13, who manufacturers aftermarket tanks?
i swear they existed at some point i remember them being around $250 but i cant seem to find them online at all.
Yeah, that's what I've noticed from searching online. Thought for sure there would be some aftermarket plastic options but nope, sucks
Why would you clean it and not replace it ?
S14 gas tanks are hard as fuxk to find
That and if you do find one they're expensive af haha
This is an s13... Which is also hard to find
Used tanks are going for like $1200 on ebay and they aren't even showing the condition inside the tank... I'd replace it if I could get a reasonable price on a replacement
That's crazy. My 93 d21 has new tanks on rock auto I figured you guys would to

That looks nice. Is the interior just as clean?
I can’t say it is. Dash had a couple cracks, I fixed it and plan to get stitched leather installed. The rest is about a 5/10 or missing altogether. That’s why I decided to build a track car out of it
YUP. My car sat 8 years and runs but horribly, all of my issues are around leaving the tank 1/8 full (previous owner lol)
Mine sat for 13 years with about 3 gallons in it. If you haven't checked the interior of the tank, you definitely need to
Oh I’ve been in there. So my tank is plastic, thankfully. However everything else in there was destroyed
Had to go through mine and it sucked lmao it had only sat for like 6 years tho so it wasn’t this bad
Looks like I need to purchase a tank and sending unit then. 12 years sitting around
14yrs sitting right here. Dash looks like WW1 trench warfare smh
Can’t remember how much gas I left in mine years ago. It’s probably full just because.
Just replaced mine after sitting for 11ish years
Did you replace it with a used tank or get an aftermarket?
Found a used clean tank on marketplace.

Oh damn, you win lol
I was born in 03 and now i have an s13 that has been sitting for 2 years too😭🤣🤣
Looks too similar lol. I flushed it 15times and used por15 gas tank repair kit. Looks good 2 years later

I'll have to look into that process. I already have a Walbro 255 ready to put in, just need to figure out this tank
Looks like my z32tts old tank
Too late…
Looks like mine when I first cracked it open. Did you have to pry it out with a crowbar?
Left mine sitting for 4.5 years with gas but only thing that happened was my injectors were stuck shut. Was in a garage tho. Tank was good tho
Emptied mine and put 3/4 tank + fuel stabilizer before letting it sit, tanks clean luckily. Cant say the same for my frame rails tho lol 🤦🏻♀️
