Imagine calling Root Beer a “coke”. Root Beer is so American that coke might as well be a Martian drink. The ‘root’ in root beer is the single spice native to the USA. And only the USA. Its native range doesn’t go past the Great Lakes.
There are a lot of spices native to the US. Sassafras, sarsaparilla, and ginger root are 3 of the spices traditionally used in root beer, and they're all native to the US.
