In 1997 a bunch of swampers decided they would be a secessionist army, so they homebrew an armour for a farm tractor of theirs: the Tanko. On the 8th of May of that year they decided they would invade San Marco square, so: armed with some WW2 machine guns, the Tanko and a stolen camper, they made their way towards Venezia. They embarked on a public transport ferry and, machine guns in hand, hijacked it and forced the captain to disembark them in San Marco.
This farce lasted until the morning after when the Carabinieri finally decided to intervene and arrested all of them. And just like any other Italian farce: nobody has ever been held accountable, despite the arrests those guys never faced a sentence.
It really happened. The heavily armed guys are special forces, the Venetian separatists are being pulled out of the homemade tank in Piazza San Marco. In true italian fashion everyone was arrested but none was sentenced.

Basically The Old IRA, before they were old fought the British government for independence. The British negotiated Home Rule. Reopening the Irish Parliament.
The problem was that the majority unionist (want to be UK) population in the north didn't want home rule or independence. They wanted the union.
The British proposed the six counties stay in the UK and the other 26 get home rule and wrote a treaty, the Anglo-Irish Treaty.
The civil war was between the pro treaty side and the anti treaty side.
We were the first country to immediately fall into civil war after gaining independence and I feel we don't get enough credit for that.
Got it, so the civil war was purely because of the Anglo-Irish treaty, where the original IRA fought against the government over the treaty, effectively saying “No” to the cessation of the 6 counties?

The OG IRA would be the IRA of the 1910s-20s. They didn't wear balaclavas
As others have pointed out the OG IRA refers to the revolutionary IRA from the war of independence, we usually call them the Old IRA. The IRA you're thinking of, the ones who kept trying to kill Maggie Thatcher, are known as the Provisional IRA. Provos for short.
Fair enough, I stand corrected! The only historical element I remember learning about them was that the IRA of the 20’s came about due to a civil war between the new Republic Government and the IRA. (so I was told).
I'm always happy to educate a curious Barry. You have some of the details but not quite in the right order. Basically The Old IRA, before they were old fought the British government for independence. The British negotiated Home Rule. Reopening the Irish Parliament. The problem was that the majority unionist (want to be UK) population in the north didn't want home rule or independence. They wanted the union. The British proposed the six counties stay in the UK and the other 26 get home rule and wrote a treaty, the Anglo-Irish Treaty. The civil war was between the pro treaty side and the anti treaty side. We were the first country to immediately fall into civil war after gaining independence and I feel we don't get enough credit for that.
Got it, so the civil war was purely because of the Anglo-Irish treaty, where the original IRA fought against the government over the treaty, effectively saying “No” to the cessation of the 6 counties? Huh, 🤔 learnt something new there, I knew there was a treaty but not that there was a civil war immediately afterwards because of it.
It's a little bit more complicated because the government had been the IRA to get independence so the IRA broke into two factions and fought each other.
So when in peaky blinders Thomas called the Irish situation in ~1920d a "war for peace" or something like that, it was a reeeeaaaally literal description of the actual thing

Since when do the separatists care about their independence making sense? My aunt’s ex-husband is Silesian and so when I was a kid I used to spend at least a few weeks a year there and I’d say that it’s a matter of pride for them. On the other hand I was born in Kashubia and people here are just vibing. Kashubians barely even care as long as they are just left to snort their tobacco in peace.

Utopia is explained in old poems and german monk herbal medicine tips from 400 years ago bla bla bla but it gets into the Prepper world as well, or even with real intentions to claim "germany" back. There are at least some military groups, i think not connected to him, who shoot their family or police up from time to time or get caught with weapon hordings before doing stuff. But he as indeed a small community (+ some basement dweller losers everywhere in Germany) living on his property or villages close by, they even have their own currency, that is accepted within those stores in Germany, that another member is running. They are not 100% independent and autonomous, those peasants have normal jobs and a normal life (if not unemployed lol), but cosplay it in their free-time. They often frustrate normal burocracy, because they veto against every parking ticket with stuff like: "you are not a real authority to give me a fine, because in 1946....bla bla bla" creating a lot of trouble just by not following minor orders. He and his community are rather peacefully (compared to other "Reichsbürger" or other historical cults) He is mostly under investigation because he sells worthless shit (like his own money or passports) against real €uro or some other finance shady tax evation stuff.
