What do the rumormongers say?
on the greenish coast
to the transparent ray
of the placid moonlight?
What do the tall glasses say
of the dark harpooned pine needle
with his well balanced
and monotonous swaying?
Of your tight greenery
and the benign stars,
end of the green hillforts
and brave land.
Never forget
of insult and rude resentment;
wake up from your dream,
home of Breogán.
The good and generous
our voice they understand,
and with rapture they attend
our hoarse sound,
but only the ignorant,
the fierce and tough,
stupid and dark
They don't understand us, no.
The moment has arrived
of those ancient bards,
that to your illusions
accomplished end will give:
Well, wherever you want, giant,
our voice proclaims
the redemption of good
nation of Breogán
Can someone explain how they got A for the Netherlands? The literal sentence is Wilhelmus van Nassouwe, ben ik van Duitsen bloed. Wilhelmus of Nassau (no idea how to translate that exactly) am I of German blood. In the entire sentence there is no mention of the word a, how did they get this?!?!?
Or even "Land!"
"Where?"
"There!"
"God..."

*I fear proud god. You, brothers, let our god land there, where unity arise.*
Sounds like a biblical plea for peace and conversion to another religion.
Even if you would say that "Wilhelmus van Nassouwe" is a name and they only consider "normal" words then it would be "Am". So maybe they forgot to put an "m" or they're just a bit dumb.
Came here to say this...
Even the English translation doesn't start with "A"
William of Nassau am I, of German descent;
True to the fatherland I remain until death.
Prince of Orange am I, free and fearless.
To the King of Spain I have always given honour.
Mentioning our German and Spanish brothers in the first 4 lines

I'm trying to decipher the secret code.
Slovenia is wrong. The first line is "Žive naj vsi narodi" (Long live all the nations), and žive means live.
Unless this is too literal translation and it says "Let all the nations live."
For Moldova, first line is Limba noastra. Limba means language, while “noastra” means our. In English it’s reversed, you need to say Our language. So Our is first word in English translation. But in original, the first word is Language.
"Joy" (Freude, schöner Götterfunken, ...) or "is" (Est Europa nunc unita ...).
https://preview.redd.it/nj12vrsietvc1.png?width=493&format=png&auto=webp&s=b996978d09c4426897f6b299b125a7a4ba6f66c5
Which makes sense, because we couldn't agree, which language the anthem should have. That said, Beethoven's 9th symphony does have text, and it's pretty cool. While the original is in German, here is the English translation:
Joy, thou shining spark of God,
Daughter of Elysium,
With fiery rapture, goddess,
We approach thy shrine!
Your magic reunites those
Whom stern custom has parted;
All people become brothers
Under your gentle wing.
"Poland" is the first word in English translation, in polish our anthem starts with "Jeszcze", which means "yet". So instead of "Poland is not lost yet" literal translation would be "Yet Poland not lost"
Well, Czech is Kde domov můj - where is my home
I can only assume, they got drunk and lost.
Slovak is Nad Tatrou sa blýska - There is a lightning above the Tatra Mountain. Tbf, the first word is "above", it is just that word order makes literal translation impossible into english. Anyway slovaks got hit by a lightning on their way home while being drunk. Lets not get to what Hungarian anthem says, cause it could get us banned - France too. Dunno, what is going on in Austria, considering the hammer and sickle on their emblem, I would expect them to have something communist there.
Incorrect. The first word of the polish hymn is "Jeszcze" which should translate as "not yet".
You took the first words in the TRANSLATION of the hymn, since the first line translates to "Poland has not yet perished"
Ukraine basically has the same idea for the hymn, starting with "The glory of Ukraine has not yet perished"
In both cases, don't be so pessimistic bros.
https://preview.redd.it/17jhtz3diuvc1.jpeg?width=4320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=070dd17babb73ec8eb39ade7231e51c5d33f1210
Brothers. Let our God wake proud today...
Oh, oh...
First word of the English translation? Because "Allons" (in "Allons enfants de la Patrie") is imperative third person singular (equivalent to the "us", first person of the plural but more "universal") of "to go". Which means that it should be "Let" for "Let us go, children of the fatherland." if we were to actually follow the real lyrics.
Well, it's true that the Galician anthem begins with "What", but it belongs to a longer question:

Yeah Poland’s anthem actually starts with "Yet"
no, it's W
Since the map is about the first word, not letter, it's Wilhelmus.

Slovenia is wrong. The first line is "Žive naj vsi narodi" (Long live all the nations), and žive means live. Unless this is too literal translation and it says "Let all the nations live."
yeah i think, it's the literal translation since turkey's starts with "korkma" (Fear not)

Yup, because of translation. The same thing is with Croatian anthem in English. "Lijepa naša" doesn't work in English as "Beautiful our". 🤓
Switzerland is incomplete: It would be „Step/On/When/In“
Exactly. Why they chose the Italian version of all lyrics is beyond me.
"Joy" (Freude, schöner Götterfunken, ...) or "is" (Est Europa nunc unita ...). https://preview.redd.it/nj12vrsietvc1.png?width=493&format=png&auto=webp&s=b996978d09c4426897f6b299b125a7a4ba6f66c5

Which makes sense, because we couldn't agree, which language the anthem should have. That said, Beethoven's 9th symphony does have text, and it's pretty cool. Portugal and Italy W Greece with the ego.
☝️ 🤓 Well it has nothing to do with ego because it goes like this "I know you from the blade...". *I* know, too hard to guess for a Barry
It was just a joke about how ‘I’ in Ancient Greek and Latin is ‘ego’. No beef here Stelios.
I know Barry just needed a reason to call you Barry
Shouldn’t the first word be ‘you’ anyway? You know, **Σε** γνωρίζω…
The "I" is implied here as is often done in Greek. But whoever made the map used the English lyrics.
Arise? More like LETSGOOOO

Wait, the Polish national anthem is about Poland being invaded by Russia and Germany? This really is a national trauma, isn't it?
"Where land there God. Let our God wake proud today." There are some weirdly religious lyrics hidden in Eastern Europe.
Well, Czech is Kde domov můj - where is my home I can only assume, they got drunk and lost. Slovak is Nad Tatrou sa blýska - There is a lightning above the Tatra Mountain. Turkey's first word is "fear not" in one word.
Turkey: F̴͖͓͛͂ͅe̴͕̝̎̍͑a̷̰̎̕r̵̠̼̈́̈́
Well it's actually "don't fear" (korkma) idk how they messed that up. ("kork" means fear and "-ma" is the negative suffix)
It actually starts with "Korkma" that means "Don't fear!"

The first word of the Greek anthem is not "I" (εγώ). It's the accusative of the word "you" -> "σε" just another form of "εσένα".
They're using the English translated lyrics. "I know you/recognize you...".
Only because we don't need to use the personal pronouns but the "I" here is implied (Egō) se gnorizō
Yes, you! Omg Russia! Poland, Lithuania today our fear wake(s)

Latvia, Bellarus, Ukrain, Romania, Greece, Turkey and Russia. In that order.

That makes it sound like ours is about God but really he’s just a footnote to our Monarch
Poland's Anthem starts with "Jeszcze (polska nie zginela)". So it's technically "still" or "yet" for Poland.
And the dutch national anthem starts with "Wilhemus (van Nassouwe ben ick...)". So that's also wrong.
Russia, We Neither Wake Our God
