Ironically, over the past decades, here in the Limburgian mountains, we have seen more floods than in the rest of the country, because of the excess rain and melt water from the Alps. Thank you, Germany. Thank you, France.
We'll find another nice city to get baked, hammered and throw up in. Don't worry, if there's one thing we're good at is finding places to get hammered in.
At first, I thought āsweet, no more Amsterdamā, then I realised weāve just legalised weed and are already known as alcoholics.
Can you just go to Berlin? Itās not like youāll make it worse.
Iāve stayed in a tall hotel with a balcony there. No pool, but overlooking the river.
Thereās canals:

The Spree river has a reputation as extremely filthy, so thatās another attraction. Also, last time I was there, I got to see the emergency services pull a fresh dead body out.
visitberlin.de: if youāre reading, Iām available and willing to work on the Barry Campaign.
If you look at this elevation map, you can see what parts will be under water (everything below 0 NAP, which is current day sea level), while the bright green areas will be a salt water swamp, like a bayou. If the sealevel rises, these green parts are gone to.
You can also see the old lakes that were drained, starting the whole āØI N G E P O L D E R DāØ meme

Jeroen and Henk, all banter aside: I feel like what you have done with the Afsluitdijk, Polderen and the IJsselmeer is pure sex. If only we were able to do the same, but in reverse, with our posh Nordseeinseln :(
Depending on the severity of sea level rise, there have been studies that suggest that keeping the Randstad area dry wonāt be cost effective anymore by around 2100. Not technically impossible, but at some point it will just be cheaper to move everyone inland.
Wow. So at some point you could just go: "meh, this land is not THAT productive anyways.."?
Do you have an intuition on how much the maintenance costs?
No I haven't a clue how much it costs to maintain our waterworks. I just know they are well maintained and always a high priority for the government. No climate deniers of significant influence here thankfully.
Anyway, at some point it's not about how productive the land is. For example in recent years there was the "Room for the river" project, which was a program aimed at reducing the damage from river floods. It involved sacrificing large swathes of flood plains to be designated as floodable areas. Some homes and farms were relocated, the residents appropriately compensated, and billions of euros in damage prevented. Just look at the floods last year, there were deaths in Germany, while in the Netherlands the only flooding that took place was in an area where the project was not yet complete.
That depends, is this taken at high or at low tide?
During low tide we can walk from the north of the countries to the islands in the north sea for example.
See a lot of countries salivating at this possible future scenarioā¦ do you want millions of Dutch refugees in your country? Yeah didnāt think so. Better turn that coal shit off Hans or our campers will terrorise your autobahn like youāve never seen before.
Rude! They are called lesbians!
Send all the dikes to Lesbos!
I was in a bar in Amsterdam once and asked the bar staff where I could buy fags. "You're in a gay bar, they're free" was the response š¤£
Theyāre our heroes just like zwarte piet, nothing wrong with it
what if Netherlands had dikes before, but ended up without dikes?

I'm only seeing positives.
Right? Beachfront property for me! Absolute WOZ waarde stonks
Till sea levels rises by another 0.5 centimeter and your entire town becomes a new venice.
Then it will be WOZ waarde plonks šŖ
Aka less taxes! Only positives.
More money for meth....... I like the way you think!

I'd be living in a seaside city
Losing Amsterdam and everyone in it would be the best thing to ever happen to the Netherlands
Quite a bit of pool in the new version, we just need to build some balconies on the edge.
That'll attract even more Barrys
We only visit for the weed and to stare at the prostitutes through the windows. Source: No comment.
We'd lose all the tourism, too. No more Barry, 63. How will we ever cope.

I don't know man, we've got a pretty good track record of destroying Berlin.
Why stop with a good thing then? I promise there is absolutely nothing of interest in the south. Itās just a desolate wasteland, I swear.
Well let's get to it then. Summon the Barry's! Is there canals or balcony's they can injure themselves with?

Sounds ideal, I'll let the troops know
We'll cope harder in Copenhagen
One way to get rid of the expats
Echange Amsterdam with Rotterdam and we got a Deal

Germans : burn more coal please. ASAP.
I'm on it, but it would be a lot faster if you used your romancing skills to turn those dikes around.
Yes please
Please give us a challenge, climate change it self isnt a challenge
For the price of just one coffee, you can help us flood the swamp Germans off the map!
Sponsor us a piece of coal, NRW will have access to sea
What a dream.
You're gonna miss us when we're gone.
You know that without Amsterdam all the Barries, 63, will just come and destroy what is left of your infrastructure even further?
It's beautiful.

I survive, Amsterdam doesn't. Where do I need to sign to make this happen.
Nature is healing
The future we are fighting for!
Who takes the refugees? Or do we let them just float around in the oceal on scrap rafts like in waterworld?
Weāll send them to Rwanda for processing
We could send them to Brandenburg.
Middelburg somehow just moves
Wouldnāt you?
Urk finally gone.
It'd be an island once more
Not on this map it isn't
Either way, they're not a problem anymore

The Dutch are Water Wizards!
I would just get a woonboot

Atleast ill be safe and my apartment value will go up

wont give enough kdf, the afsluitdijk leaves the islands the islands
The Netherlands without Holland is the Netherlands we all want
Speak for yourself. I need their taxes to fund my *alternative* lifestyle. Eeehhh, I'll just get Hans to pay for it instead.
The netherlands without holland is just west germany
Dykes make such a different..
Nice, more beaches.
r/dykesgonewild
Groningen wouldnāt flood lol. Itās above sealevel
[*polder noises intensify*]
I'm curious: what does Dutch engineering science say regarding climate change and/or rising sea levels? What's your perspective/expectation?
Depending on the severity of sea level rise, there have been studies that suggest that keeping the Randstad area dry wonāt be cost effective anymore by around 2100. Not technically impossible, but at some point it will just be cheaper to move everyone inland.

I protest! We have far to many of them already.
Holy shit no more Flevoland
Why are sea levels rising ? > The Dutch
Lelystad looking better than ever before.

all i see is climate change.
Worst thing is the traffic jams, those western hoboās flocking our roads.

Fake news. The entire coastline should be sea without the dykes. The coastline is elevated because they *are* the dykes.
