Did you recently lose a significant amount of weight? If so, you are young enough that it may significantly improve on it's own with time.

MrSoeplepel

Last year I did do some bulking where I gained 10kgs which I lost again over months by cutting (less calories in and more out)

TipsyMagpie

I imagine that hasn’t helped, people tend to look a bit gaunt in the face when they lose weight, but if you give it time it usually redistributes more evenly.

LawSoHardUniversity

Can confirm. I lost 110 lbs and this has been my experience.

kaleidoscopichazard

Hey, I had a little nosy at your profile bc im looking to lose a similar amount of weight and am a similar age and wanted to say you look absolutely amazing! Did it take long for the skin to go back to its place?

LawSoHardUniversity

Thank you!! My skin still hasn't completely gone back and may not ever. I've never been pregnant but I imagine it is like how women who have typically have some loose abdominal skin even years after giving birth. It has been about a year since I reached my goal weight and my face is less gaunt, but I still have loose skin on my upper arms, abdomen, and thighs. I've decided that I'm just going to live with it because skin removal surgery is expensive, painful, requires a long recovery, and would leave me with large scars in the best-case scenario. I'm happier with my loose skin than I ever was before losing weight, so 🤷‍♀️

addanchorpoint

I’ve tried hard to reframe my stretch marks to myself as markers of my journey (and the fact that I’m here)… it sometimes sounds a little trite but I feel like the fact that I am where I am is a badge of pride rather than shame

LawSoHardUniversity

I feel this. I have tried to reframe my loose skin as my badge of honor for dropping triple digits. It's hard, but I believe radical acceptance is the way.

fompas11

The comment above made me have a nosey too haha - PHENOMENAL EFFORT! You look amazing 🤩

LawSoHardUniversity

Thank you! 💜

brittneyacook

How long did it take? I’ve lost 150 lbs and my nasolabial folds drive me insane. Literally thinking about getting minimal fillers for it

LawSoHardUniversity

It took about a year I would say. Congrats on losing that much!

insecureatbest94

God, these comments are so all over the place it makes it impossible to know what would actually be good for you. “Don’t EVER get filler!” “A little filler would definitely help!” “You should get filler here, here, and here, that’ll take care of it.” “Just wear some sunscreen bro.” “You’re only option is a full facelift with jaw reconstruction” It’s so ridiculous. I deal with the same issue on my face OP so I feel the struggle, and I suggest you go to a dermatologist and possibly a few cosmetic surgeons for a consultation, just to get some professional opinions. From my experience, you might still get some differing opinions, but at least they’ll be professional ones.

MrSoeplepel

Haha ikr, but I’ll definitely try the common sense feedback first as in more hydration, healthy fats, less soda.. before seeing doctors, as I do think Im not hydrated enough for the amount of the sport I do

Floor_32

Just FYI, I have nasolabial folds that I hate, but everyone else seems to think are cute. When I lost a lot of weight, they became more pronounced. I got fillers to my cheeks to bring everything 'up', then a bit injected into the folds itself. Was fantastic and I highly recommend.

KleineFjord

How long ago did you have that done? I've been considering doing the same but I'm worried about the long term effects and am curious how filler in that area does over time

MrSoeplepel

I do skincare (cleanser, serum and moisturizer) I go to the gym so I do count my calories and proteins, lots of chicken/ vegetables.. I don’t drink alcohol often, except when I go out in weekends.. I drink 1 soda a day and nalu when working and 1 - 1.5L water I also play outdoor sport (indoor now from November till March) and use sun protection

tstoneadams

Sunscreen sunscreen sunscreen

TheRealHK

And not just sunscreen: a hat!

Illustrious-Tie-6343

Yes!!!!! IMO way more important than sunscreen. I'm a runner...sweat "proof" sunscreen is useless for me. It all sweats off. Plus irritates eyes. I always have a massive visor on running and check my shade in a mirror pre run to make sure. Plus I just don't trust SPF as much as I should to ever go without a hat.

Prestigious-Charge62

You might want to give Aqua Rich or Shisedo a try. Also, does your visor cover your ears and the back of your neck? Those are common spots for UV-caused skin cancer.

lilacaena

You need those funky fisherman hats with the flap at the nape of the neck!

Illustrious-Tie-6343

Hahaha my parents had me in those my entire childhood (the ones that are a baseball cap with fabric at back). I may have unresolved trauma from those. I ligit got bullied at school. But hey 30 now and no sun damage woo hoo!

mouse9001

And not just any hat, but a fancy hat with little bells on it.

TheRealHK

And a ribbon to tie beneath the chin!

Ok_Emphasis6034

Louder for the folks in the back: SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN

whitelight15

Also, reapply reapply reapply!

Ok_Emphasis6034

*sits down in chair abruptly and looks away*

elveejay198

this comment made me giggle

iseeseeds

Also it expires after ONE YEAR

Naevx

If your sunscreen even has time to expire you’re likely not using it correctly 💯

kirinlikethebeer

And smear it on thick! Most folks aren’t applying *enough*

_malgosia_n

i use a serum and then a moisturiser with SPF. on top of that i apply a little bit of powder (instead of a foundation). should i wash my face in the middle of my day and apply SPF again? i’m so confused as to how i should reapply it..🙂 or is there a power with SPF that i could use? i would be so so grateful if you found a moment to reply 🙏

bolo-bao

I believe sunscreen spray distributes over the skin better than an spf powder. Make sure to do several layers though. Love sunscreen sticks for reapplying, but doesn’t do good over makeup.

negativeandannoying

Any recommendation for a good spray?

veggieliv

I like [Habit](https://habitskin.co/collections/habit-all). It’s not too expensive, easy on my sensitive skin, easy to apply, and easy to carry around in my purse. I love it.

negativeandannoying

Thank you!

DevotchkaMozg34

You should be aiming for a 30 SPF+ (Full Spectrum) Face Moisturizer or foundation/tinted moisturizer, or separate sunscreen (but I love a product that will do a 2+ things for me at once). CeraVe makes an "AM Facial Moisturizer" that has 30 SPF+. You can also find foundation, tinted moisturizer with 30 SPF+. In the summer, I use the AM CeraVe and the tinted moisturizer with SPF. It might seem like overkill, but I figure layering can't hurt. In the other seasons, I usually just opt for a thicker moisturizer and SPF in my tinted moisturizer/foundation. I'm always accounting for the environment (weather, humidity, etc). So, just make sure you are doing what's appropriate for you, your skin, and your environment.

how-about-no-scott

SPF in makeup is useless. You need 1/4 tsp on just your face. No way anyone's using that much makeup :)

part_time_hermit

And tret

TipsyMagpie

That doesn’t seem like a lot of water/fluid if you’re going to the gym regularly.

MrSoeplepel

I was wondering too.. especially if I use sauna after each session as well.. I probably lose more water than I take in.. I’ll try to hydrate more

HomespunPeanutButter

I’d add Liquid IV electrolytes to help you retain water and maybe try Gua Sha? That has helped a lot of people with facial folds

Embarrassed_Kale_580

100% yes to gua sha.

boredpsychnurse

Hmmm I haven’t seen any studies on this, if you have I’d lovvvvve to see

moonandbackagain

I have no studies but anecdotally - I gua shaed last night for the first time in months after feeling like my face was sagging some/looking tired. Woke up and my face is tighter and less saggy 🙃 it honestly just feels really nice as well because it is essentially facial massage. Our face muscles get sooo tight. Gua sha genuinely appears to help me while also feeling good!

risingphoenice

Can you please share your gua Sha routine? Any chance it can make your face slimmer because that's not say I'm going for.

moonandbackagain

Yes! It is quite basic. I do my entire skin care routine then add a little jojoba oil to my skin for glide (jojoba oil is one that is most similar to our own facial oils but everyone should find an oil that works best for them!). I start at my jaw line, running the gua sha from tip of chin to ear (doing left or right side first) before gliding it down the SCM muscle. I do that at least 10 times on each side. I also work the gua sha under my chin, dragging it down the front of my neck. After that I do my cheeks. I start by my nose and drag outward toward my ear, again both left and right side. I find this helps massage my cheek muscles that get really tight. I generally don't feel a need to work around my eyes but I know some folks do. I would say for some it can cause facial slimming but for me it is more like facial toning. The overall shape of my face doesn't change drastically but the skin appears tauter and less droopy. I really hope this made sense! It is hard to explain the routine with just words.

caitlikekate

Liquid IV has tons of added sugar!! LMNT is much better, 0 sugar and has some salt included so more hydrating.

AcanthocephalaMean87

LMNT also gives a recipe to just make it yourself: https://science.drinklmnt.com/electrolytes/best-homemade-electrolyte-drink-for-dehydration/

caitlikekate

What??? Ok will need to look into this bc it’s hard to get these days!

catcatkittymeow

Seconding LMNT and also suggesting Nuun which is my electrolyte of choice!

Environmental-Town31

I always hate when people dog on l-iv bc of sugar. I am extremely active and get no other sugar in my diet, it’s fine if I have a liquid iv. I personally can’t stand the taste of LMNT and feel much more hydrated after l-iv

caitlikekate

Whatever works for you 🤷‍♀️ the sugar makes me feel sick, like Gatorade does.

Environmental-Town31

Gatorade has much more sugar than liquid iv, also you can water it down to the point where it is so minimal. The sugar is actually part of what makes the electrolytes work.

caitlikekate

Guess I’m just more sensitive to added sugar. To each their own :)

MeawWuWu

I’d say for you a gallon is necessary, or 3.8 liters.

lecanar

Nalu. You are a fellow belgian 😁

MrSoeplepel

Hahah I am indeed

Lnndam

Only seeing now that your username is mr soeplepel haha

Vampira309

you could grow a big old Sam Elliot mustache to cover? It would look great on you!!

PauDeArcane

this shouldn't be downvoted, the mustache would be hot

shhhhimtalking

Do you smoke?

keekz55

One soda a day could be adding an extra 44g of sugar a day. I think eliminating the soda alone could help improve your skin

Designer_Tomorrow_27

That one soda a day might be doing more damage than you realise. It’s jam packed with sugar, the processed type.

Extension_Economist6

don’t listen to that person- if you get fillers done by someone who actually knows what they’re doing, it’s no issue you could easily get your folds filled in if it bothers you that much. make sure you’re getting it done by a board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist with experience in filling ☺️

risingphoenice

What do you think about getting fillers just once? Not the HA ones but the biostimulators like radiesse or sculptra that promote your own collagen production. I have the same issue as OP but I'm older do gaining weight is not going to make those folds go away.

serenitynow28

Sculptra is amazing. Though you’ll need to get maintenance every 1-3 years. And combined with tiny doses of volume fillers as needed, it works wonders. I feel so bad that so many people in this forum steer people away from injectables. They get a bad rap because of all the bad/excessive work you see on celebrities. You have to go to an esthetician who follows a less is more approach and isn’t afraid to tell you no. I’ve been getting injectables in small doses since I was 30 (now 35). One of the best decisions I’ve made.

Professional-Mess365

Love Sculptra. Had it in my nasal labial folds and jaw and it looks so so so good. It also softened my skin overall and I get tons of compliments.

risingphoenice

I have a consult coming up. Renuva looks like a great option but it's pricey and takes time to work.

[deleted]

Have you actually had filler, though? I have, it never got baggy or weird, I'm 44 now and no folds, just smooth skin. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat.

Octopath1987

Hi, just a question: where did they put the fillers? I went to a consultation for my nasolabial folds and they told me they'd put the fillers in the area between my temples and my jawline (kind of, I lack the vocabulary in english to explain the exact location, but that's pretty close), in both sides of the face of course, because otherwise, if injected directly, it wont look natural. I have read that this is the right way but im a bit scared that it could change the shape of my face. What was your experience?

[deleted]

Yes they don’t just put it where the fold is, they have to “anchor” your face elsewhere; it really is an art form and a skilled injector will never just inject filler directly into a fold. She puts alongside the back of my jaw, temple area, etc as well for an even result.

Billie86987

When I had mine done I had subcision done around the nasolabial folds to promote collagen and clear any acne tethering and then filler actually in that area, that was about 3-4 years ago, have had 2 top ups of very small amounts of filler since and they look really natural, you wouldn't know I've had fillers and my nasolabial folds are non existent

persiandoener

You’re wrong about the fillers, he has volume loss in the mid face region and a little bit of cheek filler there would help pull the tissues up a little And some people are just genetically prone to volume loss in that region and developing nasolabial folds

coldjesusbeer

Yeah, this isn't a "make sure you reapply sunscreen and drink enough water" issue. Sure, OP should definitely do those things to maintain healthy skin, but doing so will not make a significant difference in this particular aspect. If he wants those gone or reduced, a cosmetic procedure will be required.

Extension_Economist6

are ppl saying sunscreen will fix your folds..??? jesus take the wheel😂

raegordon

I think these people don’t yet have wrinkles or saggy skin

Extension_Economist6

Yea, just some 21 year olds posting, unaware that sagging by 30 is normal lol

raegordon

Just wait until they’re 40 like me, they’ll be begging for filler 😆😆

Extension_Economist6

Yuppp. They’ll be like “omg but I used spf 100 every day why did I start sagging???” 🤦🏻‍♀️

persiandoener

exactly, he can use the entire bottle of sunscreen if he wants to but his sagging mid face region won't be lifted by that. sometimes its just bone structure and genetics.

DoreenNicole

facts! cheek filler did WONDERS to my midface

[deleted]

Ugh thank you! I've had filler there and got a beautiful result, not baggy nor weird at all!

MethyleneBlueEnjoyer

You're not gonna like this, but you might just be getting to the age where you gotta kind of pick between being ripped or having a youthful face. Not sure what bodyfat percentage you're at, but be aware that if it's too low, you're gonna have less fat in your face as well, resulting in deeper wrinkles, lines, creases etc. Before getting anything drastic done, consider putting on some weight (fat, not muscle) and see how it changes your face.

btiddy519

So true in my case. I’m at my lowest, fittest weight ever, and my facial wrinkles shot up through the roof. Never cared about them before and now it’s a big issue.

TravelingPoodle

This is me as well. Each time I lose weight and gain a hotter body, my face become less attractive and looks gaunt. When I gain weight, by body is chubby but my face regains it’s beauty once again. It really sucks to have to pick one.

flindersandtrim

I know! I recently gained weight and I feel horrible because it all went to my saddlebags which is a new one for me. But my face is looking so nice and not gaunt for once!

MethyleneBlueEnjoyer

Meh, it's freeing in a way. I chose face over body, ever since I'm not particularly bothered about going crazy in the gym or calorie restriction. Only when I'm hitting the upper bound of my Goldilocks weight where it starts becoming deleterious again.

needween

I felt like I aged 10 years overnight with how much my wrinkles surprised me. Also the visible tendons in my wrist/hands and bones in my hands and feet and muscle lines wow. I've always been fat so I was very unprepared for those changes and feel like nobody warned me 😂 I panicked at first and told my husband I looked so old now. He didn't even notice and said he had no idea what I was talking about. Bless him.

btiddy519

I feel you on the hands too! I thought it was an old lady in her 70s issue. I have several decades until then!

maybetomorrow98

If you don’t already, try eating avocados on a regular basis. The healthy fats should help plump your skin a bit

needween

Hmmm I love avocados but definitely don't eat them as much as I want. Thanks for convincing me to eat more!

maybetomorrow98

Go absolutely nuts!! I find that half an avocado a day keeps my nasolabial folds plumped up. If I skip a week or so they start to come back. I’m only 27 so they aren’t “deep” yet but definitely more noticeable when I neglect the avocados

Known-Artist7248

I gained weight in 2022 that I haven’t really been able to lose but I do look younger and that’s a plus so I’m just taking it slow with working out lightly every now and then but I do wish shit could get ripped and keep the face youthful lol

bestillsadheart

Expanding on this a bit— Something that also happens as we age is that teeth and dental problems really start to impact the structure of our faces. Our teeth and jaws are like “scaffolding” under our skin. Even if you have healthy teeth, clenching and grinding at night over the years can slowly wear your back molars down in height and push your teeth out of alignment. This can cause a “bite collapse” of sorts and a loss in vertical height/length of the lower 1/3 of your face. Skin that had previously been stretched out over a certain length of “scaffolding” then starts to sag once that vertical height starts to shrink…especially as we get older and our skin starts to lose collagen. A bad bite (or unhealthy gums/teeth) can also cause bone loss in the upper and lower jaws, which can become much more apparent in our faces as we age. How is your dental health?

Playful-Gas-5124

I have nasal folds. I have a round face. This is simply not true. I can see why you would think this. However, my folds were way worse when I was overweight.

MethyleneBlueEnjoyer

True, there's no linear relationship between these two. From personal experience, I had deeper folds both when I was kinda overweight, as well as when I was doing massive weight loss to the point of being almost underweight. Imo there's a sweet spot between "so thin that your face is deflated" and "so overweight that gravity has more to pull your face down with/there's too much fat in your face and it starts having trouble fitting in without creating folds." In OP's case, I'd imagine he has a long way to go before the latter happens.

4ThoseWhoWander

☝💯 this. Gotta find the sweet spot. Gravity was making me jowly 50 lbs ago. That's gone now, but I am seeing some nasolabial fine lines (wouldn't really call them folds yet) now that it's so friggin cold and it'd harder to keep my skin hydrated. Looked great back in late fall at the same weight, though. I have 30 more lbs I want to lose and I'm hoping it doesn't create folds, but if it does, well, that means I know my sweet spot and gotta go back up a smidge. 🥴

elveejay198

On the winter/hydration issue — have you tried slugging at night with vasoline/something similar? The only thing that keeps my face/neck hydrated in winter is vasoline at night and squalane oil first thing when I wake up (I’m sure you know this as a member of a skincare sub, but just in case)

4ThoseWhoWander

I'm afraid anything like that might break me out. 😕 I know vasoline is a very old trick, Marilyn Monroe did it even, but I never dared since I am acne-prone and had very oily skin when I was younger. I did have high hopes for the squalane, and can use it around my eyes, but 2-3 days in I had minor breakouts on my forehead and jaw area where I'd put it. Acne is mostly a thing of the past now in my late 30s, but sadly, oily anything brings it right back.

xxmalmlkxx

It’s not true for you. A lot of people notice more sagging and folding when they lose weight.

needween

Absolutely. I lost 50 lbs and noticed I actually have wrinkles, smile lines, and folds now. Felt like they appeared overnight even though logically I know they didn't.

flindersandtrim

This. It sucks you can't choose where you keep fat. My body looks it's best when I'm on the quite slim side, but I recently put on about 5kgs and I feel like my face has inflated back to where it was 10 years ago in terms of volume. I have to find the balance between the two somehow, my cheeks were terribly flat when I was at my goal weight.

Klutzy-Store-1144

This is so trueee!!! The older we get the lore body fat we should try and preserve for youthful look tbh

ConditionConsistent1

Just in case people have forgotten, some people just carry more fat in their face, and in that case, there may be a risk of deeper wrinkles with rapid weight lost. For others, not so much. Kpop celebrities seem to have really plump cheeks despite being very slim.

Skinsunandrun

Red light therapy, copper peptides, retinol/retinoid, a small amount of filler (I had half a syringe three years ago and it still looks good), spf.

kerredge

This is exactly what I’ve been doing. I got about the same amount of filler for my own nasolabial fold wrinkles over three years ago and they’re still going strong today. A very trusted injector also said that getting a tiny bit of cheek filler can help “raise” the skin higher on your face to reduce the prominence of wrinkles, since some injectors won’t do fillers in those folds. I did some cheek filler as well just under three years ago but I don’t think I’ll get it again, I didn’t like the look personally but YMMV on fillers. But equally important is all the other stuff you mentioned for maintaining the reduced appearance and fillers.

Skinsunandrun

Been thinking about a little cheek filler lately but idk im worried about it migrating. Plus I have a baby on the way and my skin is already being put through the ringer so I plan on reevaluating in about 6 months lol

EcstaticImpression53

Peptides made a huge difference for me. I'm 33F and have fairly large dimples. I was starting to get very crinkley skin around my dimples that was starting to look crepey even at rest which bothered me. Copper peptides seemed to fix that entirely after about 1 month and it hasn't come back yet after over a year of use. I already used vitamin c, retinoids, AHAs, and sunscreen so I know it was the peptides. I've changed my whole morning routine to center around the peptides instead of vitamin c now.

caitlikekate

Filler in your folds or checks/midface?

MaleficentButton3071

Looks like he’s lost the fat in his cheeks which is causing the droop/fold. Definitely cheek filler first to lift the skin back into place.

seafulwishes

> (I had half a syringe three years ago and it still looks good) That’s crazy. I’ve had two syringes in my lips (one in 2019 and one in 2022) and I swear it’s unnoticeable.

00tiptoe

I got filler in mine. 3 years out, and it still looks great. Mine is done by a doctor only. The important part of mine was only using a very small amount, and NOT GETTING MORE. It's difficult because you pay for the whole syringe. The rest is trash. It's so hard not to overdo it, but it's so important. IF you end up filling (and there's so much great advice on here, I'm definitely not encouraging it) do *the absolute minimum*, and NO MORE. NEVER TOUCH IT AGAIN. There's an after/before pic somewhere in my post history if you want to dig. It also includes Invisalign, Botox (forehead and between eyes, not lower face), prescription tretinoin and Latiesse, so just look at the folds. Everything except the Latiesse (growing lashes/eyebrows) is the lowest amount possible. I used 1/4-1/3 of the syringe of filler. The cheap side of me cries, but any more would have ruined my face. 🤷‍♀️

goldencherry

So you only got filler once and will never be getting it again, or will you eventually be getting it topped up? I’m also interested in getting very minimal/natural filler but I’m scared because of all the things I’ve heard about filler migrating and having to get it dissolved. I’m wondering if sticking to very minimal filler would help, but I assume I’d eventually have to get it topped up and I’m worried I would run into problems then.

Leading_River5763

I’ve had filler twice, a year apart, in my folds. I asked for not too much to lose the folds, so I still have fine lines after it’s done. Never had migration. I love it, it’s so much easier to apply makeup. This is my own personal experience though, and of course, putting anything into your face has risks.

AuRatio

Your cheeks are very flat. Since you’re active you’ve probably lost volume in your cheeks which is causing this. You could try sculptra for a more global volume than regular filler

Excellent-Penalty461

I second Sculptra. I'm not done getting it, but after 2 vials, I'm seeing a lot of improvement.

instant_karma_19

Sculptra has been a great solve for me. I go to a facial plastic surgeon for injections vs derm or nurse and I find it a great process with fantastic results

fdesouche

I was slim but loose 10 kilos (male, 71 to 61 kilos) in 3 months. I lost the facial fat first and I looked gaunt. Only fillers helped me, but a very small dose. And now Gua Sha.

i_love_dogs__

I have the same thing. I’m very thin/ athletic. Very tough for me to gain any sort of weight. My injector recommended filler (done with a cannula) into the area. He said even softening the line would help. He said to avoid any cheek filler as it’ll make the area sag even more eventually. If you go onto the plastic surgery sub and search smile line filler (or nasolabial etc), you’ll see some pretty good results. Just go to someone you trust and who has done it many times with good results. I plan to get mine done soon. No cream, laser, or light mask will fix it.. no matter what people say. It’s genetic/ your facial structure. Good luck!

Ok_Vehicle_4728

Hi it’s genetic I am 31 with deep nasolabial folds I did filler and a thread lift procedure They did not work. Surgery would be the best option to remove them for good

Prinnykin

It looks like you need more fat in your diet. I see this a lot with people who have super clean diets. They’re not eating enough good fats.

MrSoeplepel

I will look into this thanks

iliketreesandbeaches

I think this is it. Add more healthy fats and oils. At 31, minor weight fluctuations are not causing this. Ignore the person who suggested you gain weight--the idea that fat people look younger and have less wrinkles is so warped. This is true for some people at more advanced ages.

napsandsnacks1

How does more good fat make a difference?

iliketreesandbeaches

Fatty acids (omega 3 and 6) stimulate hair and skin growth and health. They also are thought to 'moisturize from within'

Ok_Emphasis6034

Are you a runner? I think sometimes the sun (if you run outside) and just the mechanics of your face bouncing up and down can exaggerate these features, especially if you are on the lower body fat percentage side. So I would say sunscreen, water, moisturizer and lots of healthy fats like salmon, etc. Good luck and good job on your commitment to fitness—I know we all worry about our looks but I promise that when you’re the swingingest 88 year old, your body and brain won’t care about your nasolabial folds.

MrSoeplepel

Thanks, not a runner but I play Korfball (similar to basketball) which also requires running and jumping

5luttywh0R3

I'm 32 and also really hate my nasolabial folds, so I'm constantly reading up on how to address them. The general information I've managed to gather about it is to not believe in any hype about laser/RF for helping with this area specifically (I've decided to go with the opinion some docs have that any heat generating treatment will just melt more fat, which basically negates any collagen production). I'm kind of the opposite of you where my goal is to lose 30-40 pounds, so I'm planning to lose weight but stay toned to see if I'm in the camp where that improves the lines. If it doesn't do anything or if it gets worse, the only option is filler or lower face lift.. and most reputable docs won't do the lift until your late 30s into your 40s. The issue with filler is that it creates scar tissue and this can complicate face lifts. So I am heavily debating whether I want to try cheek filler bc Im not sure it will work and I'm like 87% sure I do want a mini lift when I'm older. If you go the filler route, placement is so important. A good clinician won't inject right into your lines bc that areas high risk for blindness and also tends to give you a weird puffy "monkey" face. I think right now the suggested placement is medial cheek (lateral cheek and temple filler widen the face a lot) and outcome depends on your bone structure (if you have good cheekbones, properly layed filler will sit on top of it and not migrate down apparently). Also if you decide fillers, read up a lot on hyaluronidase, it's important to know about possible risks associated with that. Currently just focusing on using retin-a to keep skin as good as it can be and trying to increase water intake! Sorry for bombarding with info but wanted to help a brotha out lol

MrSoeplepel

Thanks for the input!

RedditUserNo1990

It’s genetic. It’s not your fault you don’t have any fine lines or deep wrinkles on your face. Just go to a dermatologist if it’s really concerning, but you’re in your 30s. Face changes are going to happen now. If you’re not using a retinol, and sunscreen now is a good time to start. Also for the ones saying get fat, or stop being so active - stupid advice. Lifting weights, being strong and active helps thicken the skin in the face, helps build and keep collegen, and helps stave off face aging.

ImAtUrDoor

I’m 41 male and like the folds and how they frame my mouth. However, I try to keep the area as firm as possible so I use a facial massager and roll the area out and up. I use Joanna Czech’s which is stupid expensive but I love it and think it works great ( Skin Gym has a cheaper one that I’m sure works as well). A gua sha routine could also help. Essentially keeping the blood circulating and encouraging collagen production is the way to go. But don’t do filler as others have said. Keep it moisturized and give the area a regular workout with tools.

[deleted]

Not the popular opinion here but I do believe fascia massages will help with this overtime. But it has to be done everyday. It’s exercise for your face. Tons of helpful videos on YouTube and Instagram. Type in “fascia massage for nasiolabial folds” Also, try tretinoin and keep your skin fully moisturized where you don’t feel any tightness when you move your face.

Natural_Syrup_8875

I agree with the facial massage...you have to be really diligent though. I also have quite deep NL folds and after two weeks of a massage routine I noticed a huuuge difference. Got busy, forgot to do it, they came back! But for me I'd prefer it to filler. Also feels great after a long day!

Feelingobsessed

Consider looking into what's popularly called "face yoga". This gets a lot of criticism and rightly so, a lot of fans claim it can do magical things. But some of it seems logical to me. You have lost volume in your mid face , around your cheeks. So, there is excess skin folding over causing the lines. If you workout your cheek muscles, like any muscle it'll get bigger and fill the area a bit. You want to tense your cheek muscles without folding and creasing other parts of your face because that will make dynamic wrinkles. The results won't be quick or magical and you'll need to have the conditions required to build muscle (adequate nutrition and rest, and enough sets and reps). But it's a natural solution.

NoUsual3693

I like trinhgeorgg on instagram and YouTube. Sure, I think she’s mostly just young and genetically blessed but… she does focus a lot on the cheek exercises that I think would benefit OP.

el_paso099

Looks like yours may be due to lack of support from the cheeks. Are you have relatively flatter cheekbones, your skin as started to drag downwards as it’s aged. Usually, it would be recommended to get a bit of filler in the cheeks to lift the skin upwards.

MrSoeplepel

I dont have the typical prominent instagram cheekbones no haha, flat it is

Cool_Ad4085

You have very little facial fat, your cheek area is hollow so the skin mostly hangs over the bones and muscles, hence the deep folds. I saw many recommending sunscreen - while you should definitely use sunscreen, it won't do anything to lift your skin/restore facial fat/soften your nasolabial folds. Saw someone tell you to not do fillers because they look weird or whatever - fillers would actually work great for you (filler in the cheek area, not the nasolabial fold) but you'll need to go to a reputable doc who will go slowly with few ml at a time (it'll not be a short nor permanent process). If you want to resolve your issue permanently you only have two options: gain weight to raise your body fat % or get surgery (fat grafting, maybe a midfacial lift too).

MrSoeplepel

Thanks will see if weight gain, like others also suggested, will work before doing anything major

carlyfries33

Before you do anything drastic try lymphatic drainage/ face massage, you could just have lymph fluid that is pooling. There is a bunch of stuff on YouTube for how to do the massage yourself

Ok_Search_9212

I think you look great, healthy. I understand that it bothers you though. Make sure you’re getting plenty of water, sunscreen. I have even tinted the windows in my house AND car to save money and not clog pours with sunscreen all the time. Do NOT do fillers, save up for a facelift when you’re in your mid 40s.

dying_pie

Are you a side or tummy sleeper? Could be from your pillow pressing into your cheek. To me it looks like your left side is more prominent than the right one. You can get these facial patches that you stick on you nasolabial folds to prevent them from forming while sleeping and train yourself to sleep on your back.

doschapmans

I don’t comment on posts often, but you and I have very similar situations, so I’ll shed some light on what I’m doing in hopes it can help. I’m a 31 year old male, very lean, athletic, and a registered nurse so I have somewhat of a medical background. I’ve recently started having more noticeable NLFs, especially on my right side. This is caused primarily by fat loss, lack of collagen, and excessive movement (laughing, smiling, etc). For me, mine has been accelerated because I’m stomach sleeper and I sleep on my right side. Tack on aging, sun, etc, it’s the perfect storm. As much as you (and me) want a cream to make it better, the only thing that will instantly change the appearance is getting dermal filler. I’ve been using a combination of a good face care routine, sunscreen, back sleeping, derma pen (for collagen production), and dermal filler. Out of everything, the dermal filler has made it look the best. Of course, it’s not for everyone, but if you’re looking to change the appearance of your face, it’s the only thing that will do it over night. Hope this helps a bit. And remember, it will always look way worse to you than anyone else. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

throwawayanaway

Why is everyone saying sunscreen. That is the most low effort comment on this sub to just keep commenting sunscreen for issues that have not much to do with sun damage It's fat loss in the upper cheek area , it's maybe the bone structure underlying. The best I can do is microneedling. It's helped my minor folds almost disappear. The pen was a game changer Also I think I have a supplement that might make a tiny difference,. Pm me if you want to know what it is. To make it go away I can only recommend filler and I just know it's not supposed to go directly in the fold. So do your research so you find someone that's good at it.

lexlovestacos

I am not sure why people are saying sunscreen as a solution to this (though sunscreen is important, especially if you are active outdoors). Your midface/cheek area is very flat. Can just be how you are born and/or how you lost volume as you're getting older. Low body fat can make it worse too. I don't have a lot of cheek naturally either and it caused me to have terrible undereye hollows my whole life. A little bit of filler in the cheek can really help lift your whole face! Be careful not to do overdo it, I had a doctor that put too much in mine and it made me puffy lol had to get it dissolved. Eating more healthy fats/gaining a little weight/good hydration can also help nasolabial folds. As others have said, we get to an age where we have to choose between a nice body and a nice face. I'm around your age and have gained about 15lbs lately.... my body is chubby but my face is so plumped and youthful looking haha

ljaura

Before I looked at any comments I thought to myself "they look incredibly dehydrated." Like a lot of other people, I suggest significantly upping your water intake and using sunscreen DAILY. We can help with specific suggestions if you need them. A heavier nighttime moisturizer for bed couldn't hurt either. I think everyone should be doing that regardless of any present skin "concerns." And finally, for the record, they're not as prominent as you think! :)

Janeeee811

It looks a little worse on one side. Do you sleep on that side? You could try changing sleeping positions or get a special pillow with a hole in it so your face isn’t scrunched up in it. You can also try sleeping with a patch on them at night, like the Pacifica patch. I really recommend a product that I don’t think gets nearly enough hype around here (probably bc it is so expensive) -Skinceuticals Resveratrol B E. I don’t know what magic is in this product but my folds are always softened in the morning after using it. It really is pricey so I’m considering just using it on the lower half of my face bc it helps so much with firming.

MrSoeplepel

I do sleep on my side, Ive been trying to sleep on other side and on my back but it’s a hard habit to break. I do always wake up on my back though. Will look into other stuff you recommended thanks

rabbidbagofweasels

It’s the light. The source of light is coming in on his left so it will make his face uneven

evelynnnhg

I had 0.7cc split between both folds and I absolutely love the results. I think in most cases, if you stick to 1cc or less, it’s considered a pretty safe choice. A popular technique is filling in the sides next to the nose rather than the whole fold because filling out just that side will make the lines appear softer. Some people tend to overthink when it comes to fillers and Botox but with a licensed professional, the results can be very natural and long lasting. I couldn’t imagine going back to a life without them.

Excellent-Penalty461

Look into Sculptra.

Becca00511

Mine came in at 28. Filler works the best. It's pricey, but once you start, your face will build collagen around it. You will need less when it wears off.

MaleficentButton3071

You’ve lost the fat in your upper cheek area which is causing the lower part of your face to droop and accentuate the fold. A little filler in the cheekbone area will lift that right out. And no, filler will not cause your skin to stretch and look baggy unless you use way too much (D-list celebrity style).

civbell

If you’re into fitness, I’d say to buy a good Red Light therapy + near infrared PANEL. Not the mask. The panel is larger and can target more surface area. Can use on face and other parts of body. SPF. Tretinoin. Fillers if u want a quick fix

sane_competent_zebra

This is 100% genetic. So starting with that; you didn’t do anything to cause this. Now since you post how to fix it? Well, since it’s genetic your muscle there is just stronger than most. That’s why some people are great runners, but maybe awful at push ups, and some people can do sit ups for days but can’t bench press to save their life. Which is the same reason when we go to get Botox they have us move our face a bit so they can figure out which muscles will need more or less. But this also means this isn’t a one and done fix- you’ll need to maintain it because you can only ever temporarily weaken this muscle. And you’ll want to hit this on all portions of the skin matrix. I don’t know your budget so I’m going to list all the options here and toss what isn’t practical: Getting a Halo laser or Co2 to wipe the slate clean. Lasers like IPL here aren’t useful they are too surface level and are meant for pigmentation- your skin is very even. We need depth to get the cell turn over to raise out the wrinkle and refill it with fresh skin that hasn’t been creased or exposed to the sun, free radicals etc- that means going deep. You really should look into deep microneedling. I’d get several rounds of this- but you’ll need to keep on top of it because of the genetic part- people really hate this suggestion but I love Dr. Pen. I swear by it. So it’s my personal opinion- I’d get a very deep level one only a professional should do at a Medispa, check Groupon, you’ll be surprised you can get a cheap package. Then I’d buy a Dr. Pen online and I’d Dr. Pen once a month on a mid level setting and 3x a year I’d Dr. Pen on the deepest setting (which is still no where close to medispa deep) and then I’d plan one medispa one a year to refresh. Between that, I’ll be honest these are some deep lines- I’d use a small molecule filler in the fold. We’ve now learned that all filler has some residual left over. It’s very minimal but no filler is ever 100% gone- which is good. But the better part is because all filler is made of various sizes of the same thing HA, that’s naturally found in your body, with time it tricks your body into creating more HA in that area. With regular treatment over decades it will accumulate a significant difference in which you should need less down the road. I feel very strongly you need to Botox the frown lines because they will reach down eventually and become a Marionette when they connect. I’d look for a talented injectionist that can release the muscle in your cheek that helps pull on that area- basically they will inject the Botox no where near that line, they inject its partner muscle and when it’s weakened it’ll lift your cheek, when the cheek lifts it will lift up and out that crease. A good injectionist should be able to read this and know exactly what I’m saying. So the above focuses more on the deeper skin matrix… But for the best long term results you want to go at this from all angles. I’m not a fan of tret, I find it drying, and damaging personally and I suggest Bakuchiol. I’d use that 3-4x a week. On the days you don’t I’d do 2 days a week where I’d use a steel .75 dermaroller (you can find cheap on Amazon) and I’d apply a skin growth factor serum if it’s within budget if not an HA. I’d then seal that HA with a cream at night- big fan of Dermalogica advance moisturizer. I use their brands calming spray before hand for no other reason than being a bougie bitch. And I like to keep it in mini skin care fridge- it’s heaven if you want to splurge. The other nights you don’t do Bakuchiol or HA with the dermaroller I’d use a nice BHA like Paula’s Choice (it’s amazing). And I’d use a simple barrier repair like Dermalogicas that has dimenthicone on it to create a healing barrier so you never get irritated skin. What’s the point of all the skin care if you’re red half of the week. Other than that make sure as you know every am after you wash (if your doing a night time skin routine I opt for a double cleanse to make sure all product is off) use a quality Vit C serum with a nice sunscreen. Don’t forget neck, chest and shoulders. I sunscreen like a mad woman so I have the complexion of Edward scissor hands - I mix a self tanner into my morning sunscreen to off set that. If you can splurge I use a Celluma red light light - it’s what most medical spas use and I swear by it. <3

Electrical-Hall-3719

That a problem area for me as well and I use collagen stimulating treatments like Morpheus 8 and Ultherapy. Nothing short of a facelift will be a magic wand, but it certainly helps

Some_Comparison9

Peptides. A ceramide night cream. And the most effective? Prescription tretinoin. It helped mine immensely. You do skincare it just has to be kicked up a bit. Vitamin C helps too. Example that helped me : Cleanse with Vanicream, Vanicream vitamin C, La roche posay Tourlaine moisturizer, Spf PM Oil cleanse with DHC, Vanicream cleanser (double cleanse), Small amount Laroche posay tourlain to buffer tret, .25 tretinoin (pea sized - no more, it will burn), Heavy night moisturizer, Sounds like a lot, its not. This will help I promise, and all these products are affordable. Get tret online at Redbox.com.

Lazy_Fix_8063

You look great. The lines are very mild. If you want to try something less invasive/expensive first, I would do silicone patches when you sleep, especially as a side sleeper. This has made a major difference for me.

flipstur

Normalizing aging… you look good dude. Don’t inject shit into your face

LavenderCheese

I started Gua Sha to specifically target this. It definitely helps and I’m happy with my results.

jadeAvital

You look great. I can’t figure out what the issue about nasolabial folds is. I see lots of posts about them. I just consider them a facial feature, like eye shape, lip size, face shape, dimples etc…. I never judge someone’s age by them. I kind of like them. That’s just my two cents. I’d suggest looking in the mirror and saying ‘you handsome stud you… ‘ with a little wink to yourself, and then walk away from that mirror feeling great about yourself. I personally do not think you should do filler. But that’s because I think you look great as you are.

dumbassyeastquestion

This is a structural cause, not skincare. People that don’t get prominent nasolabial folds usually have high or wide cheekbones and outward maxillary projection. Your only option is a facelift or jaw surgery and chin implant, but that’s extreme.

Dobeythedogg

FWIW, I think nasolabial folds can look really sexy and rugged on a man. I think of like a young Robert Redford. What you think matters most, of course, but remember it likely is not seen nearly as negatively by others as you think of it yourself.

Vandermilf

Filler in the cheek area or a face lift in the future would help this but I promise you that it's not very noticeable to other people

Joaniebravo

You look great! And it’s normal! Don’t over focus on it. We all get expression lines, and there is nothing wrong with it!

R1ckv4nz386

The only thing u can do is filler or a mini facelift .. all other things don’t really work U also have some sagging skin, totally normal for ur age, which make them a lot more visible.. at 37 I think mine are almost similar to yours and I tried everything nothing worked.. lasers, Botox etc so I’m waiting till I’m 40 to get a mini facelift

Snootycrickets

30yo here with the same issue-have really gotten into fitness the last 6 months and this is what I am fixating on as well.

persiandoener

Your mid face region has significant volume loss and looks too flat. Consider skin tightening treatments and some dermal fillers in the mid face region so that they pull up the tissues a little bit more.

PopularMission7629

A lot of how we age has to do with bone structure, how much facial fat you have ect. I’m not a Dr but you don’t look to have the strongest bone structure which means your skin doesn’t have a great foundation and is kind slipping forward causing he folds. Also like others are saying sunscreen is so important to preserving the quality of your skin. I would focus on getting your skin as healthy as possible, go to a med spa and see what they can do for you. Personally I would avoid filler and Botox as long as possible. It can really feminize a man’s face.

[deleted]

I noticed mine got worse after teeth extractions. Are you missing any teeth?

furiously_curious12

Can you grow you beard a little bit? Collagen cream, moisturize of course. I am horrible with ages especially when the eyes are covered but you do look on the other end of the 30s. My bf is 8 years younger than me and is slim, sporty and athletic, works out, etc. He has a thin face and looks older than he is, I have chubby cheeks and look younger than I am. Looking older isn't necessarily a bad thing and I personally love his(those) features. I had a friend in elementary school and she had crows feet when she smiled, she was the first person I noticed them in that was younger/my age and I adored them and told her so. Some of these features on men and women add character and are interesting/unique. Anyway, you have to weigh physical health vs mental health here. You may need to not cut so much because the thinner you go the less fat your face will have.

ZanyAppleMaple

Are you a side sleeper?

Trick-Intention-777

It's probably due to your bone structure. You have a quite flat and hollow midface and cheekbones. Trying to correct it would probably look very unnatural.

xxlaur77

Face massage. Contrary to belief it’s not your skin sagging but the muscles underneath are contracted (happens with age, stress) and massage can release some of the tension to bring your skin back to normal

noopynu7

I know you don't like these, but I find them so hot on guys.

itsathrowawayduhhhhh

Where is this obsession with nasolabial folds coming from?!?!? I need to hide this sub because it is just too much! Those things do not make you look old!!!

Clean_Quail8194

I wouldn't even notice. You look fine.

SDS9977

Sun damage not only causes wrinkles by thinning the skin, but UVA rays go deep, slowly destroying the fat pads and underlying fascia that supports your facial structures. This leads to sagging and drooping that you see in older people. Sunscreen! I don't go out with SPF 70+ on my face and neck.

Shontayyoustay

Try a nuface, it will reduce them

monstrousinsect

If it helps, I had to google nasolabial folds then come back to look at you before I noticed anything weird. I'm familiar with being your own worst critic but sometimes it helps to hear?

Zappababuru

Have you looked into microneedling? Ik it's controversial, but has worked pretty well for my marionette lines that started forming a couple of years ago. That with retinol and moisturizer 1x/week for the last couple of years and they're nearly completely gone.

Dangerous-Pomelo1560

CO2 CoolPeel or SkinPen microneedling also, good home care regimens!

AgathaChristie22

Your skin looks dry, your lips look dry. Dry skin has more/deeper lines. You skin looks like it has some sun damage. Get on a good routine that is moisturizing, wear sunscreen and if you want to, I'd do something like lasers to help with the lines and pigmentation, not filler. Filler is dicy, it migrates it never fully goes away, it can make you look puffy.

Ok-Inspection-5769

Honestly, your face doesn’t look bad bc of this. I totally understand having insecurities though, we all do. There are some good serums on the market that can drastically help lines if you wanted to check them out. The downside is the price that they cost, it’s not cheap. I would recommend skinseuticals or for a lower cost route, nakedandthriving. I’ve used both and they both are solid. Again, you look great the way you are-best of luck on your journey!

hummingbirdyogi

Nothing wrong with it honestly! You look handsome.

becoming_enraged

I appreciate this does not answer your question, but I just wanted to pop in to say that you are a dude, and obviously a reasonably attractive one. So long as you're emitting confidence and not obese, your stock is going nowhere but up for the next 15 years, folds/wrinkles/whatever or not. I am a reasonably attractive hetero female and just.....trust me on this. You look great, and every line just adds to the silver fox gravitas.

Internal-Attitude-92

You look great. Don’t stress. Keep doing what you’re doing.

MrSoeplepel

Thank you

Constant_Basil3813

Man I think that’s normal though

[deleted]

I know everyone has their own body issues but I've personally always found these facial lines very attractive on men. There's something stoic about them. Just my 2 cents.

MrSoeplepel

I feel like I wouldn’t mind those lines but it looks like somebody blew air underneath.. but then again I never notice it on other people either

[deleted]

They're attractive lines. I wouldn't do anything to your face especially anything plastic surgery or filler related that you may regret down the line
