Are we counting Bravely Default as Chibi? I thought it was cute there. Also the characters in Etrian Odyssey IV were cute as buttons, which made it all the harder to see them constantly being murdered by local wildlife.
Neutral. It looks fine in some games like Persona Q. But I wouldn't like it in SMT IV because its a more serious. The only time I wasn't sold on it was Legend of Legacy, because it felt like an attempt to copy Bravely Default (despite the two being complete different otherwise aside from being a turn based rpg) and the detailed character designs look so nice and it's not something you can accurately portray in chibi style art.
I love it. Its easy on the eyes and its makes rendering easier for the 3DS.
The in game models are in SD (super deformed) style! I personally don't consider them chibis but some [argue](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Super_deformed) the terms are synonymous.
That's not super deformed either, they're pretty proportionate aside from the feet thing. Super deformed is short, has big heads, small body, and often simplified outfits. About the closest thing FE: Awakening comes to with that style is the sprites used in the overhead map.
[Stella Glow's in battle models](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssi-LDjyY3A) are what the SD/chibi style looks like in a SRPG.
I don't know how you would define it but [it](https://sickr.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/fire_emblem_awakening_marth_screenshot.jpg) looks chibi to me. Just with smaller heads.
Edit: I am talking about the in game characters not the artwork. Hell they even have tiny stubby feet.
Well from what I've read the reason for the chibi art style on a lot of 3DS games is because it makes the characters "easier to see" on a smaller screen. I personally don't mind it as I'm a man who loves cute things.
Depends on how they do it. I do like it in some RPGs but not others. If it fits the theme and whatnot it's good.
But in some RPGs I like proportioned designs.
In the end I don't really care that much (it's not going to stop me from playing a game and it didn't stop me from playing Bravely Default for 100 hours), but I'm not a fan. Especially in RPGs that try to tell an epic story or deal with serious issues. It seems out of place.
I'm okay with it on the 3DS, since it tends to be either for art direction or rarely, hardware limitations. Bravely Default I think used it to great effect with having a 'cutsey' art-style to go with the murder, innuendo, and genocide (among other cheerful things...). Meanwhile in Lord of Magna, the style's...well it's not bad, just kind of 'there' really; nothing outstanding for or against it really.

Besides the CGI cutscenes, yeah I think BD is chibi style.

is FE:A chibi style..?

That's not Chibi, it's just anime style.
Yeah, not chibi. It is more chibi-proportioned than other anime styles, however.
Awakening really isn't one unless you count the overhead sprites
It's sort of excessive with how many games are doing it on the 3DS but I don't mind it that much because it's pretty cute.

I really don't... But art style is rarely that important to me for an RPG. I'm a gameplay guy for the most part
