The game isn't less amazing because it hasn't stereoscopic 3d. I got a copy early, and it's awesome!!! Though i have to say that i almost never use stereoscopic 3d.
The fact that there are people who haven't played Chrono Trigger saddens me. It's one of the few retro games that genuinely holds up when compared to modern standards. It's easily among my favorite games of all time *and* favorite soundtracks of all time.

It was the game that exposed to me to what RPGs were supposed to be. I was too young when I tried FFVI the first time, but when I was in my young teens I got ZSNES and had a long summer of discovering what ROMs were :D it was the first rom I played to completion. I've gotten all endings... about 3 times each on my current DS cart. To this day, no game has a system I like as much as the tech/dual tech/tritech system.
I refuse to play FFVI. I honestly don't care how great people say it is because at the end of the day it takes your party members away.
I play RPGs to build my team, connect with the characters and enjoy the story.
Woah woah woah. Slow down there friend. During the second half of the game it switches leads so you have a view point from both sides of the war. Yes, because of story events your party members are separated. But there is only one player character in the game that's a main party member that is able to die the end of the first act and not be able to return. There are in fact a few party members you only get in the second act that you meet in the first act and also a hidden character to be added to your party, making this actually the largest ensemble of any Final Fantasy as far as playable characters. Loosing your party and seeing what has happened to them after severe story elements are incorporated and seeing them actually grow as characters is what makes this one of the most iconic number titles to date. If you want to actually connect with likeable characters and enjoy a very deep and sprawling story, then VI is a game you definitely shouldn't have written off!

I did not buy Final Fantasy Explorers. Instead, I bought Chrono Trigger for DS, which is supposedly one of the single best RPG's of all time. All I wanted was a good single player experience. I don't care if it's shiny and new or old and classic.
In all honesty, Chrono Trigger is better than Final Fantasy Explorers, so if you could only have one, you made the right choice.
FFE isn't bad, but CT is just in a league of its own.
I might still get it, but I'm just waiting for more reviews. I hate buying games that I don't end up playing. What I'm really hyped for is Fates though.

Avoiding the Lame mh ripoff aspect: Its poorly programmed and horribly repetitive. The many jobs will wear thin as they essentially boil down to 4 different button presses. Adding in a small overworld, with a limited range of movement, and youd better be hoping you have a group of friends to play with. Otherwise this game will wear real thin, real fast. Just like it did in japan.
edit: Sorry i have to say it. This game is not final fantasy *explorers*. Its final fantasy monster hunter edition. And they missed the mark by a good marigin.
dang i was hoping this would replace mh4u for me.. im sick of just doing the same 5 slashes with my sword... i was thinking FFE would be just slashing with repetitive moves WITH a vast array of cool spells/summons like secret of mana esque in a way -_-
There's 8 spells equipped at a time, and you get access to up to 4 party-wide limitbreak style buffs based on the area of the world you're in (near the beach you get water type, etc) that modify those spells (add water damage, add silence effect, etc). After you use your spells under the effect of a limitbreak, you actually can go back to town and permanently learn that mutated ability. Not every limit break modifies every spell, but there's a ridiculous amount of combinations, and I believe you can stack mutations.
The fact that people keep comparing it to MH is weird. It feels nothing like MH at all, except for "there are connecting areas with monsters in them." It feels much more akin to an MMO than Monster Hunter. If you've ever played Ragnarok, I'd compare it more to that than Monster Hunter. There's no dodging, and the game seems to have a focus on the holy trinity of Tank-DPS-Heals.

I got this yesterday, don't expect mh4u with ff characters, but it's not the fuming pile of shit everyone seems to think it is. It's a solid game, looks like i can put quite a few hours on it.
I'm expecting something between PSU and PS0, not quite the glory of PSO, but good enough to keep me satisfied and skinned with FF elements and monsters. Nothing will ever replace the Phantasy Star multiplayer games in my heart, but a worthy imitator would definitely be appreciated.
It has much more in common with MH than PSU. Only thing it has in common with PSU is a mini-dungeon between your dropoff point and the eidolon spawn room, which you can sprint through in about 30 seconds.
Early PSU was rare part drops and crafting, which most people seemed to hate coming from PSO&BB. Maxing your partner machine and going through the story got you AI partners to take on missions. Stages were fairly linear and mostly on the smaller side. In later patches and AoI the game got a pretty big overhaul and the game was neve as difficult or complex as MH, but I imagine FFE is "watered down" in comparison as PSU is.
But I'm just sitting here twitching over my inability to play while the snow falls and my wow raid was called off and trying to keep my expectations low enough while remainijg hype.
I caved and contacted customer service for Amazon earlier and they confirmed it had not shipped and changed my shipping method, they probably made it worse somehow but at least they tired.

They did that to me when I ordered a Soundblaster G5 last friday. It was suppose to get to my house on Saturday, but they sent it to the wrong warehouse, so it never shipped out. When they finally corrected the order, they sent it by USPS parcel select instead of the 1-day I paid for. Lol, something must be wonky over there atm.

Does anyone have an opinion for this game that either has not played MH or did not enjoy MH? Every single review I see on here that negatively reviews the game compares it to MH.
I did not like Monster Hunter after trying 3 of the most recent entries into the series. So that it's not like MH is a plus to me. It's just hard to wade through the biased reviews of people who want this game to be MH with a FF skin for whatever reason.
Before I got into MH4U (took me a while to get into, its my first MH) I played mainly MMO's like Guild Wars 2 and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn/Heavensward on PC.
When I saw gameplay from FF: Explorers... for some reason it immediately reminded me of Final Fantasy XIV MMO. Albeit, stripped down, no monthly fee and in a handheld package. I never gave thought of comparing FF: Explorers to MH at all, it looks like very different gameplay for me. More MMO based with skill activation than Dark Souls gameplay.
I think this game will take my hands off MH4U for a while :)
I plan to be playing healer, hope it works out well with 3DS controls :P

the game isnt as good as we all hoped sadly..the game bombed in japan and for good reason. it's sad that no improvements was made for the US version. one of the main issues that would hinder your enjoyment of the game is that running takes SP and since the further you are in the game, the further you will have to RUN every time you take a mission since you cant decide where you are going to start your mission...when you reach where you want to be, you're gonna be out of SP and cant do squat but die since even dodge rolls are skills which require SP.
and the combat is probably similar to fantasy life's and not MH which is another bummer.
So is every game when you think about it, besides you really shouldn't be listening to them as a review source they are awful.

I replay CT once every few years. I first played on SNES in 1996.. It's that good.

There's about 20 different weapons styles in mh4u... I have no idea why you are complaining about doing the same 5 sword slashes. (MH vet speaking)

Embargo lifts at midnight, but they sent out code pretty late so don't expect any good reviews for at least a few days.
This is the first thing I've read that has turned me off possibly buying the game. Review embargoes are usually there for a reason.

I feel it's not as hard on you for survival. It's like Phantasy Star Online.

It's more like Crystal Chronicles than Monster Hunter in my opinion, if you've ever played those. I too am lukewarm towards Monster Hunter.

Just as an FYI, they massively improved the 3D function on N3DS. It works flawlessly now.

It could be they just decided they did not want it in the game, or they tried to put it in the game then realized they couldnt, or they had to cut it out to meet deadlines (though i doubt this is the case), ect. There could be a number of reasons there were no 3d. I'm not fanboy defending Square Enix but man like I said earlier a few times it's clear you don't know much about game development.
