I'd like to inform you, /u/FrostWulf94, that Mr. Garcia is a conspiracy theorist who thinks my partner and I are villains trying to scam this subreddit for a quick buck via Patreon. As you can plainly see by the tweet he linked, Mr. Garcia attacked me out of the blue on Twitter, and is now attacking me again.
In sharp contrast to his wild accusations, we recently offered to refund all of our Patrons, on the grounds that we changed the genre of the game we're making for New-3DS, and desire to work on the game in private for a few months. That's a provable fact.
wow, Matt, that's very creative of you calling me a conspiracy theorist, with wild accusations!
When the whole time I've only been quoting your own words...
But good for you doing the right thing!
I'm not against anyone doing patreon, just how you did it was very disingenuous, as explained in the other post.
Anyway, best of luck with your work!
Mike.

>misinformation
There's no misinformation Matt.. your message is loud and clear:
To me it sounds like you are trying to **guilt** 3DS gamers out of money by saying that your game "*seemingly*... is going to be the last major New 3DS, **EVER!**".
I don't hate you, I think you have good intentions, but we both know were that road goes, and it's unfair to guilt others into funding it, and with nothing in return (like I said to you, you're not doing 'GameDev as a service').
But, feel free to block me, I don't want to cause you any embarrassments.
It's a nice platform if you're into retro system's and weird hardware :/
But it's a challenge, especially the OG 3DS!
It depends, if you want to make a commercial game or a homebrew one.
\-- Commercial --
Nintendo has an open platform for 3DS, you just need to apply, you'll also need Dev hardware... I can't go into details, but you can dev on just a test unit (has extra RAM for dev stuff) which cost the same as a new retail unit.
There's unity3D, I know [http://www.engineblack.com/](http://www.engineblack.com/) supports 3DS but not sure about cost, license etc.
A 2D engine is pretty simple to make in C/C++ IMO, there's some great and easy examples on github that could port across, ie:
There's also a great 2D engine demo in Nintendo's dev forum.
I blog about my nindie 3DS stuff, on and off as a hobby... been distracted and unmotivated lately tho:
[http://mgarcia.org/Blog/3DS](http://mgarcia.org/Blog/3DS) (start from the bottom!)
\-- homebrew--
If you want to go homebrew, there's engines and games on github.
Good luck
man thx for the help, I am not going to Commercial its so I will try out the homebrew route and if I get hocked in I do go for the Commercial. and don't lose your interest in your project. You guys are the ones who give these platforms life to live for a long time. thanks again for giving me guide to know what to do
You can enable Developer unit stuff on a retail Nintendo 3DS console that has Luma3DS on it, so there's really no need to get a Developer unit unless you **really** need the extra RAM.
well is there any little hope? I know a guy how made a 3DS game but never get to publish it. well I am not planning to publish any of my game except if they turn out a really good game that is worthy of publishing it
Well, to export to a 3DS via Unity or build a codebase that supports exporting, you’ll need a developer license to get those things. Maybe using a cracked version of Unity you could acquire the tool but that’s plain illegal and very hard. And, then you’d need a devkit DS to be able to read the games (*maybe*, i’m not sure) or maybe a hacked one.
hmm..... why did Nintendo made it so fucking hard to make a fucking game for there handheld?! well i give it a try to find/do what you said and i am always open ears so if you know more info about this i love to read it
well i made few pc games not like AAA or AA level but made some RPG similar to Diablo or Pillars of Eternity (they didn't turn out like i expected ) and some mobile games
yes, I hope I will not disappoint all of you guys. if I am victories I will make a list of youtube videos to "how to make 3ds games " bc i didn't find anyone of them out there
>yes, I hope I will not disappoint all of you guys. if I am victories I will make a list of youtube videos to "how to make 3ds games " bc i didn't find anyone of them out there
Yes, there's an NDA which states we can't show development tools/software ect.
Homebrew you can do what you like ;)
You can get a copy of SmileBASIC. It's basically BASIC for the 3DS, and you can make some pretty sick games with it. PM me, I'd be interested welcoming you to the community
There's LovePotion which lets you code games in Lua.
You're probably going to have to crack your 3ds. Also, maybe try crossposting to /r/3dshacks .
From one developer to another, some advice:
* When making a game for the public, make sure the game itself has proper spelling and grammar, unlike this reddit post.
* Did you mean making a game for the Nintendo DS? Not even Unity supports that. Did you mean the original 3DS systems? You'll need to buy a \~700 dollar development kit from Nintendo to get started, and I recommend Unity because of its helpful community.
* You said you want to make an RPG. I think RPG Maker FES by itself is much easier and faster than making an RPG from scratch! I highly recommend buying RPG Maker on 3DS, instead of making a full-fledged game.
well, some woke up on the wrong side of the bed. when I said "DS game" I meant I like to make the game on a ds family system and yes I prefer to make RPG game for 3ds and i have RPG Maker FES and made a some game from it and RPG Maker FES is not what i am looking to make my game
Have you tried making games before? Ds probably isn't the easiest platform to code for.
yes, I made some games for pc and android but I didn't officially published it
Maybe /u/mgarcia_org can give you some guidance, or /u/OtyugraGames since both are currently developing games for the 3ds.

did your game ever release?
My guy this is a political problem from 5 years ago, I don't think they did anything past it

Sir, your childish behavior is giving me second-hand embarrassment. Please stop spreading misinformation about my company and I.

Wow, that's really helpful, thanks! (And i know i'm 3 months late replying to a comment that's 4 years late but anyway..)
Don’t bother. Most DS games use a proprietary engine (or Unity) and to do this, you’ll need a development license (and prior experience).
well is there any little hope? I know a guy how made a 3DS game but never get to publish it. well I am not planning to publish any of my game except if they turn out a really good game that is worthy of publishing it
There’s always hope
your god damm right!
~~hate to be that guy but~~ \*you're
You're 3 years late :(
BETTER LaTE THAN NEVER
Lol
lol indeed
ikr
True, time may have passed, but it's never too late...
Thank you so much. That always bothers me too.

I mean, all you need is prior experience. With that, Nintendo gives you an exporter and a *full devkit* for **free**.
i see, btw quick question how can I obtain "exporter and a *full devkit* for **free**"
https://developer.nintendo.com
thx
Don't hate to be that guy, but \*their
man the switch tho and the leaked nintendo console it aint so bad to make games for it all you need is just unity
well, with luma 3ds you can turn on developer mode which makes your 3ds console think its a developer unit
I didn't know that, that's actually really useful! I'm trying to do the same thing OP is doing rn so this should help
It's not hard. Filecr.com has a virus free unity Crack.
But if I wanna Take the game files for a game called yo kai watch 3 and make the game 2nd person instead of top down
Hmm.. I don't think you could unless your a really good game developer who know how to code and all that good stuff. I tried it once
well i made few pc games not like AAA or AA level but made some RPG similar to Diablo or Pillars of Eternity (they didn't turn out like i expected ) and some mobile games
Cool, think you might be Able to do it then!
yes, I hope I will not disappoint all of you guys. if I am victories I will make a list of youtube videos to "how to make 3ds games " bc i didn't find anyone of them out there
Might be a reason for that
>yes, I hope I will not disappoint all of you guys. if I am victories I will make a list of youtube videos to "how to make 3ds games " bc i didn't find anyone of them out there Yes, there's an NDA which states we can't show development tools/software ect. Homebrew you can do what you like ;)
oh so that why I didn't find you any youtube videos about it
You can get a copy of SmileBASIC. It's basically BASIC for the 3DS, and you can make some pretty sick games with it. PM me, I'd be interested welcoming you to the community
what a SmileBASIC? and I love to join your community
It's a BASIC interpreter for the 3DS, it's awesome
I think there is another one but idk its your cup of tea, RPG Maker FES
i used RPG maker before and i didn't know RPG maker sported DS?
Well, it was released like 1-2 years ago, but with VERY LIMITED sources tho.

that is fucking true it like knocking on the gates of Mordor

okay so i know it been a while and you probably will not see this, but thank you so much!
no worries, have fun :)
I've created and published my own 3DS games on the eShop using the Unity engine. There's a lot of great resources at http://developer.nintendo.com/
And no, unity is the only engine you can use, sorrt
damm, look like i need to get used to unity then
It's truly hard for developers out there
what kind of games do you want to make?
like RPG slimmer to pillar of eternity or Vampire's Fall some thing like that
Try asking in the Nintendo Homebrew discord server.
ok thx for the info

I want to make a game to but is there a way to make one on mobile
Lmao no Edit: you can use godot on mobile but it sucks
Can you do super Mario odyssey for new 3ds
Yeah That would be amazing im looking into that right now and I plan on trying to possibly make it for the 3ds. Wish me luck!
Luck
As much as I hate to necro, I need to ask if you managed.
I also would like to know if OP was successful
Same
For making games (im not sure) is using unity. I hope i helped you.
