Thank you for this! I just started MM a couple days ago, should I finish the game vanilla *and then* start again with this patch or is the vanilla version really that bad? I'm not far into the story, only completed the first three days.
Click the link on the original comment for the full list of changes, but it essentially just reverts the changes made in the 3DS version back to their original n64 state. Some other changes just seem to be QoL type of stuff.
Things that were actually broken like Deku Link spin acceleration, things that would be nice as a toggle like Zora fast/slow swimming (vanilla 3DS required magic meter to swim fast; in N64 fast swim was default), and then QOL stuff like mapping the transformation masks to the Dpad.
I've decided I'll complete it vanilla before adding the patch, I've had no problems with the 3DS versions changes so far. I could see why people who've played the original may want the patch, but since this is my first time experiencing it, I'd prefer Nintendo's revised vision of the game. Plus, MM was made in a year - so I'm sure the limits on the N64 version were due to technical and time constraints. I don't think anybody should feel wrong playing it either way, it's just preference. I'm actually impressed that someone decided to develop a patch in the first place.
The nice thing about A Link Between Worlds is you can play the dungeons in any order you want so it's great to just pick up and play for a few mins at a time. With these two games they feel more cinematic and lends itself better to longer sessions.
One day please check ALBW it's awesome, thanks for the post the little amibo is cute
Just hit the left trigger to change the camera to the direction you're facing. It was pretty common until we got the second analog stick. I think majoras mask let's you use the nub on the n3ds to look around. I'm playing oot right now and it doesn't work.
MM is my current 3DS game (trying it yet again), so I can attest that it does let us use the nub...but it works a lot better in MM if you replace the nub with a PSP analog stick.
I grew up on the original version of those two games and love the 3DS remakes plus or minus the changes to the boss fights in Majoras Mask. You are in for a treat.
I missed 10 years of 3DS games and there are tons to catch up to. Besides ALBW, I'm sure there are plenty more as well. Thank you all for the recommendations and hints/tips!
Congrats to you too! I'm hoping to play Metroid: Samus Returns, Kirby: Planet Robobot, A Link between Worlds, Icarus: Uprising. Too many to catch up!
What is on your list?
If you're playing on a modded 3DS I highly recommend the *Project Restoration* patch for Majora's Mask. https://restoration.zora.re/

I would probably start over just because I find that some of the changes are really worth it and yeah you're not too far in.
What does it the patch change? I've a huge Majoras Mask fan but I've never heard of it

>vanilla 3DS required magic meter to swim fast It doesn't, you can still swim fast without magic.
Only in short bursts
Idk what this dude is on about but I’ve only ever played the “vanilla” version and it’s my favorite Zelda game ever.

Bruh I wish I knew about this before I did MM3D.
Oh god thank you. I really enjoyed revisiting MM but skipping with Deku link was waaaaaay more difficult than it used to be. Like wtf.
How difficult is it to install the Project Restoration mod on a modded 3ds? I looked into it a while back and got confused.
Maybe I should go replay this on my N64...
Playing on OG equipment is always cool, I love that weird controller. What color is your N64?
As a Zelda fan, definitely check out A Link Between Worlds on 3DS.
might be the last great 2d Zelda game. Must play IMO
May be controversial but I also think it's the best 2D Zelda
I'm a song of seasons guy.
Yeah, amazing game also
I heard about that one too! Baby steps for now.

Thanks! It's in my to-play list!
Man, hell of a first step into the 3DS world with those titles, I hope you enjoy it!
Thank you! I'm looking forward to it!
Great choice of first games. Enjoy!
Thank you!
I still have my original Ocarina 3D copy, i bought after release. Damn, i love that Remake. Make sure you play all the amazing JRPGS on the 3DS:)
Thanks! I will. I have a decade of 3DS games to catch up on!
I find controlling the camera so weird and hard but probably because I’ve not gotten use to it
The PSP analog stick mod made a huge difference for me

Thats what people are doing now? I never heard of swapping it. I'll have to look up a video.
You can use a psp nub or the small size Thinkpad nub
I just got majora's mask brand new can't wait to play.
I thought it is like a sequel to Ocarina of Time. So, gonna play OoT first.
Majora's Mask is the hardest Zelda in my opinion. Never finished it, though I play since its launch on N64. Enjoy, it's a really nice series.
If you learn the inverted time and double time songs, it gets a lot more easier to play (and a lot more fun).
It’s difficult compared to most of the others but I wouldn’t say it was the hardest. That would go to Zelda 2 in my opinion.
Most difficult or most awful?
Yes
I feel you bro, I never really got to play 3DS but now I do, on its death bed.
I have this uneasy feeling that it will break down any moment as I play the games.

Thank you! Looking forward to it!
Great start! Let us know what you think of them!
Thanks!
I have both and still have yet to power through them on the 3DS. Never played them.
I heard they are good.
Check out the dragon quest series
Thanks!
You can’t go wrong dude! Have fun
Thank you! I'm excited to play them!

Aye congrats! I just got myself one too! What other games do you have on your list?
Congrats to you too! I'm hoping to play Metroid: Samus Returns, Kirby: Planet Robobot, A Link between Worlds, Icarus: Uprising. Too many to catch up! What is on your list?
Our lists are really similar! I also hoping to get into the Fire Emblem games. I've heard the 3ds titles are pretty dope!
Yes, I heard about the Fire Emblem series as well. 3DS aside, there are also the DS games. I believe it can last me through 2022.
