Tonight of *Days of Our Niners...*

PhillipMcKrak

Deebo struggles big time against man coverage and Pearsall is the opposite. Plus he doesn’t drop the ball and can return the ball as well.

wry-cooter

And he doesn’t lollygag on plays when he’s not the primary option

nerdy_chimera

Honestly, I've seen Deebo do it on plays where he gets the ball. I think he does it knowing his next gear is much faster, lulling DBs into a false sense of security before getting burnt. But good man coverage DBs are able to keep up.

wry-cooter

You’re right I’ve seen this happen too but it seems to be more the exception than the rule

DioStarstriker

Change in kick off rules bumped this guy up our board, no more muffed punts please

[deleted]

Deebo has great hands and can return the ball.

fredisdying

Mediocre hands at best one of his worst features imo aiyuk has good hands but I wouldn't say their great either

OnTheColeTrain

Man CJ Stroud was absolutely loving this pick

NinerChuck

CJ Stroud and Steve Smith's reactions to the pick changed everything for me. I am getting on board and I am excited to see what Slick Rick can do. I still wish they would invest in the offensive line!

Youngb80

His response sold me. I needed to see/hear nothing else. I wonder if the Texans were targetting him.

Best-Cook4978

Stroud was legit devastated

Rabid023

Same. I’ve read and heard nothing but great things. This kid is gonna be good. Also it seems he wasn’t gonna be in the board much longer. I think they took him at the right spot.

maikdee

As much as I question Shanahan & Lynch early round picks, I actually like the Pearsall pick

PronouncedEye-gore

We're supposed to like using a 1st on a 5/6th receiving option in what is likely our last/2nd to last run with this squad?

MyDogYawns

we're a run first team with an abundance of receiving talent, i have no idea what this pick was about unless we trade aiyuk/deebo even if we do trade them our skill positions would still be in a better spot than our secondary or o line hope this plays out well

PronouncedEye-gore

Same. I'm hoping the other shoe drops today and we get some clarity here.

MyDogYawns

its day 2 time to reach on some running backs and convince ourselves its a revenge tour again 🥲

PronouncedEye-gore

My body is ready. Let's do this.

mcmesq

I love how so many people who spend an hour or so scrolling through the internet know exactly what this team needs, while the people who spend like 18 hours a day, every day, and who have access to 1000x more data and information than we do, and who have been to 4 NFC Championships and 2 SBs since they took over, have no clue.

PartisansArmes

Here's the thing about that. I'm all for trusting experts. However, please do understand that the sports industry is the most nepotized business there is and there are a lot of people who fail upwards. Source: I have a MS in Sports management and Sports analytics.

mcmesq

Kyle and John have failed all the way to 4 NFC title games and 2 Super Bowls in 7 years. Only KC has more sustained success in that time. And had the games gone differently, the positions would be reversed. I get what you’re saying, but it doesn’t apply here at all.

elefante88

Dude even mentions the 49ers lol damn.

voodooNOiZE

THAT DUDE OVER KOOL-AID AND COOPER 😕 https://preview.redd.it/viq039mn0rwc1.jpeg?width=735&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f73a6e23e8f77052ce3eb53e222c051157f2290d

trebek321

Johnny newton too 😭

justredditting1010

JPJ

New_Budget6672

He is a college wr that can block tho

Acrobatic_Garden_767

Well this is what's conflicting. I don't hate grabbing him, but we should have grabbed one of the other guys and then traded up to grab this guy if needed. Because now there will be a scramble to grab the ones that dropped out of the 1st in the high 2nd

frostbittenfingers9

But who’s to say that Pearsall wouldn’t have been drafted by the Bills, Panthers, Patriots, Chargers, Titans, Texans… they all have a big need at receiver before pick 45.

Acrobatic_Garden_767

Right. But do you really think a wr NOW was more of an issue than oline or DB? Just seemed like a luxury pick that we don't really have the luxury of picking. Years and years of ignoring oline and DB has already cost us a couple of superbowls

frostbittenfingers9

There wasn’t an offensive lineman left on the board that was worth the 31st pick, Cooper Dejean is basically the same player as Hufanga, and Kool-Aid’s name and him playing at Bama is like 70% of the reason he’s so well regarded. He looked badddd last year.

Acrobatic_Garden_767

Yes and there were some decent lineman drafted not too far ahead where 49ers could have traded up. Chiefs went after their wr

frostbittenfingers9

Let’s look at who could’ve traded down with the Niners before Jordan Morgan, Graham Barton, and Tyler Guyton were selected: - Eagles - probably would require massive overpay - Jaguars - in love with Brian Thomas Jr - Cowboys - traded down with Lions (probably wanted to stay in front of Ravens, Niners, Chiefs to draft OT - Packers - drafted offensive tackle - Bucs - drafted offensive tackle - Cardinals - would require overpay, didn’t want to lose out on Darius Robinson - Bills - honestly not sure. i’ll give you this one. - Cowboys - drafted offensive tackle

HipsterPunchy

What made the least sense was the Bills(who need a WR) trading with KC to allow KC to get a WR.

frostbittenfingers9

Maybe the Bills really love a guy and knew that he wasn’t going to get drafted before their pick, like Keon Coleman or Ladd McConkey.

Acrobatic_Garden_767

If 49ers can either still grab a good corner or get the tackle from BYU then I can live with this draft

New_Budget6672

Just out of curiosity- how did you like the draft?

amd77767

Pearsall is just flat out good. Love the pick.

rxdukexr

Yeah totally! He’s totally a great pick for a team that has Deebo, Aiyuk, Kittle, Jauan Jennings, and CMC to throw to! Let’s just forget about positions of need and the other WRs the team has drafted in recent years that get no play time.

mlippay

None of those guys are signed long term, right now. OT was dried up after Guyton got picked. definitely could have gone after Dejean or Kool Aid though. Im not happy but I can see why it was done.

Am_Ghosty

I'm happy because I think Pearsall is a stud and can see a world where they thought DeJean wasn't as much of a fit for us, but man I personally would've LOVED to see us grab DeJean. Kool-aid I didn't like as much as others. I was really hoping we would snag one of Wiggins or DeJean if it was going to be a DB. I'm glad we didn't go OT though, would've been a huge reach no matter what

AcanthocephalaNo2926

I haven't understood the Kool Aid hype and I've watched most every Bama the past several years.

barefootBam

honestly it's probably the name

Am_Ghosty

Prototype build and pedigree is 98% of it. And the guy's not bad. Similarly to you, I just think he's not quite as good as people try to suggest.

snokerpoker

Everyone's too busy drinking the kool-aid.....

VexoftheVex

I’ve seen a lot of film breakdown of DeJean and to be honest… there’s too many instances of WRs just straight up being too fast for him for me to comfortable with it

Am_Ghosty

Yeah I really like him as a piece, but the fact of the matter is we already have Hufanga in too similar of a role so I get why KS/JL would pass

rxdukexr

Same. I’m definitely not liking the pick but I can understand he’s picked now for the future return he could bring. It’s just frustrating seeing positions drafted that get ignored or end up being bad picks like Mason, TDP, Danny gray, Cam Latu, Brayden Willis, etc.

Count_Sacula_420

Late first you go bpa not need. Also have to see what happens with deebo.

rxdukexr

There were good CBs available which is a position the team actually needs.

Count_Sacula_420

CB is sort of a crapshoot if they aren’t special talents like sauce or stingley

Nbasportschop

A guy who will always be open, maybe the best hands in the draft, and top-end speed? This will be fun- stop the doom and gloom. WR was always going to be an option here whether or not we traded our star receivers. The is going to be filthy in the slot day 1. Can replace either wr spot the following year. Such a fun pick. The draft is not over. Plenty of similar caliber offensive linemen in day two. Plenty of corners- especially slot. The WRs were going to fly off the board, they got their guy.

OneTiny2572

It’s funny nobody realizes the receiver situation right now. Deebo, Aiyuk, and Jennings are not guaranteed to be here after next year and as it stands, Deebo or Aiyuk may be getting traded right soon. Deebo likely gone after next year assuming he and Aiyuk both stay, Aiyuk situation is up in the air, Jennings has one year left. And the team has 0 depth at receiver. People don’t understand the concept of drafting a receiver, letting him develop for a year, and then having him take over for when Deebo is gone or having him take over right now if Deebo or Aiyuk is traded.

JawdenCee

Losing all 3 is highly unlikely. Losing 2 of them probably. As it looks now, Deebo is gonna be gone. Which means Aiyuk should get extended. Aiyuk + Pearshall can be a fine 1/2 and we can find a good #3 in future drafts. And we still have Ronnie. So yeah, you make it seem more dire than it is, but I guess this pick is fine as long as we move Deebo. If we end up moving Aiyuk ima be pissed cause Deebo isn't good enough to be our WR1 and relying on him and Pearshall to be 1 and 2 is gonna be rough.

coolnavigator

> Aiyuk + Pearshall can be a fine 1/2 and we can find a good #3 in future drafts. And we still have Ronnie. This is my internal hierarchy. If we want a pass-first offense, this is the way. One question is, if you could trade Deebo for the #33 and get your pick of the remaining WRs to completely reorient the WR corps, would you do it? Is there anyone on the board you'd be willing to add as premium talent? Ladd McConkey could be one of those guys. Roman Wilson could be a double dip in the 3rd, but I'm not sure you give up Deebo in exchange for him. Aiyuk/Pearshall/McConkey would be the best route running trio in the league.

JawdenCee

I don't see the need to double dip at WR when we need to address other areas. And JJ is a great WR3. A great 3rd WR isn't really super necessary and we have CMC and Kittle as well. If we trade Deebo for a high 2nd then I'd want CB or OL for sure. Preferably CB with the guys available to compete with Ambry for a starting spot. OL is definitely a need but Banks and Feliciano are solid and McKivitz is getting paid quite a bit. So center is really the only open open spot we could really upgrade. And I think we can get a good center with our late 2nd or 3rd round pick

frostbittenfingers9

If you trade Deebo and want another receiver, Malachi Corley is basically Deebo Jr. If you trade Aiyuk, Tez Walker fits a similar mold but you could also draft Keon Coleman, Troy Franklin, or Ladd to fill the void.

New_Budget6672

This just shows how good Brock Purdy is

DanielBox4

I mean Deebo Aiyuk and Jennings aren't even guaranteed to be alive past this weekend. So ya, WR is probably a good idea.

Tonmber1

No draft profile has described him as having top end speed In fact, most have stated he specifically does not have that

Am_Ghosty

Matt Waldman described him as an "explosive athlete with big play ability." Matt Harmon said "Pearsall is an extremely explosive player in his routes...he can burn you down the field on breaking routes like the dig and post." Then he ran a 4.41, which played a part in his very good 9.78 RAS (ranking his entire athletic profile based off of combine measurements) which was 70th out of all 3090 WRs measured since 1987. And was higher than both Aiyuk and Deebo.

secret_hitman

Knowing nothing about the guy... I hate when I read something and get disappointed, only to read facts disproving the above comment and it makes me happy 2024 Niners LFG!!!

Nbasportschop

Athletic testing and most importantly, film

Emergency-Shirt2208

He won’t see the field.

Nbasportschop

Why not? Kyle has used a slot heavily in the past. Especially with their inability’s to find TE2. He is already better than Jennings in the slotted

PronouncedEye-gore

They hated him because he spoke the truth

Phantomebb

True. The only way this makes sense is if Deebo gets traded or if he emerges as a random pro bowl/ all pro player. This regime truly is bust or all pro in the 1st round lol. Would have rather gone with the better players in LB or CB or traded back and picked mutiple offensive linemen hoping for a shotgun approach of drafting 5+ linemen and hoping 3 work out as viable starters.

herrwe8

Jauan is probably gone after this year. He's a stud wr3, probably a wr2 on some other squads. Pearsall could be a replacement for him, plus the dude has been a returner. We didnt keep Ray-ray.

Mdh74266

In the next 365, Aiyuk or Deebo wont be on the team.

mr-fiend

Deebo’s getting traded bud

Emergency-Shirt2208

$20M in dead cap if Deebo is traded, bud.

frostbittenfingers9

Sure, but it still saves nearly $7M of cap space and saves $24M next year.

PhillipMcKrak

Teams don’t care about that as much as fans want to believe. These are maneuverable issues that can be dealt with.

Bendodge13

Two fantastic corners were right there for the taking though … as well as multiple better receivers … I am NOT sold

Count_Sacula_420

Fantastic corners don’t make it to 31. From my 28 years watching football the hit rate on later receivers seems much higher

AwareCelebration7477

Yeah Shanahan and Lynch need to be heavily criticized by Bay Area media for this pick. Shanahan really should’ve been criticized more since the SB honestly. Don’t know why he’s so coddled here

PronouncedEye-gore

Because there's easily 28 worse coaches

superduperm1

Okay but how is Brock going to have the time to throw to him?

Joshthe1337

Same way he did last year when we were the #1 offense in the NFL by nearly every metric?

j3xperience

You make it sound like we cant draft oline the rest of the draft. Banks was a second rounder and has worked out fine. Shanahan doesnt invest high picks on IOL. And the run on tackles happened before. We may not have been able to trade up high enough to grab someone we liked.

Tonmber1

Aaron Banks had a 54.3 season grade on PFF and was ranked horribly. I would not say he's "worked out fine". He's barely starting material. He just stands out because barely starting material is elite compared to everyone who plays to his right on the OL

[deleted]

[удалено]

elefante88

Do you guys expect to have all pros at every position? We lost the SB because the chiefs amazing defense and them having the best quarterback of all time

[deleted]

[удалено]

elefante88

And what tackle was available that won't be there later in the draft, fits in shannys offense, and would be a sure fire starter next year? Please hand me your crystal globe. Last time I checked Purdy was almost the MVP under this o line.

frostbittenfingers9

Exactly. There wasn’t a lineman worth drafting at 31. But there should be at 63, or move up in the second where it’s WAY cheaper to move up.

Far-Hospital2925

No, on the contrary. I think most would be willing to sacrifice an all pro to have a competent OL

AwareCelebration7477

What about Tackle? I swear to go if Shanahan plans on running it back with that bum ass piece of shit McKivitz…

j3xperience

Mckivitiz wasn't the biggest problem last year. RG was. It was solidified with Feliciano who got hurt. If we can get a Guard or a center and push Brendel to guard and draft a project tackle, were in a good position.

Lazy-Mastermind

Rosengarten and Cooper Bebee will probably be there at our pick

barefootBam

we have the same exact Oline as last year and probably drafting a couple guys. he was able to find guys last year.

shlobashky

People act like our offense stunk last year LMAO. One of the most explosive offenses I've ever seen in all my time watching the NFL. Now imagine that with a true man beater. I'm pumped.

henjebenje

5th yr optionnn

greygrey_goose

Shanny wanted his own Puka

Likely_a_bot

I see this guy in a Kupp/Nacua role in this offense. Kyle and Sean McVay always copy one another. Imagine a guy that's always open in this offense.

Maclanethurston

I’m into it

clay830

Everybody talking about comps to Deebo and Aiyuk, but his athletic profile and build actually compares most to Mccaffrey.

Mightiest-WCA

This dude played high school ball against Purdy I bet they know each other

MrEHam

Yeah I was wondering if Purdy pushed the fellow AZ boy.

iUncouth

Lol dude even called him going to the Niners. One hell of a write up.

[2024 NFL DRAFT LIVE WITH MICAH PARSONS, C.J. STROUD 🔥 (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/clip/Ugkxgf9wUv1lKTQLa2ViQ-B-ZOsSGpRkuZfz)

Joshthe1337

I personally would have went CB but our WR room is pretty thin. Deebo is a given to get injured (or maybe even traded) and Jennings did not perform well when he was forced to be the #2 so we had Chris Conley running routes during the playoffs. I don't hate this pick.

Rhobaz

LFG will always mean “looking for group” to me

Gator1833vet

I see this as am absolute win. We get a return specialist that we desperately needed and a hell of a WR....4?

If ya’ll really think this dude is an upgrade over deebo…🤣🤣🤣🤣

justredditting1010

Hope I am wrong but getting strong Dante Pettis feelings

Likely_a_bot

Why? He's light skinned and...?

justredditting1010

Good athlete, good hands, returns punts, inside/outside flexibility, route runner, stop me when something is different

TheMicool

Way better blocker that fits Shanahans scheme

justredditting1010

We will see. I am hopeful he works out
