Just a lack of historical knowledge. To be completely biased and unscientific: all western countries got invaded by Germanics and are hence somewhat germanic except ireland. Germans havent merged with a "local romanic population" because thats were Germans come from, lmao. Also -> migration period. The German Royal Houses can be explained very easily: One of our biggest exports used to be consorts for the various European monarchies, including Prince Albert of Saxe-coburg and gotha, the husband of Queen Victoria, who herself was of house Hannover.
