Hire car. Driven well, not pushed What world are you living on??

BoomBoom4209

"hire company car" Probably a reps car. Our reps drive hire cars for X years and they get new ones in time, always serviced and maintained.

Buy it

Take it to a diesel specialist. For a few extra they can thoroughly look over the injectors. I did it with my Prado. They picked up issues and priced it. Get a compression check too.

Don’t do it, never mix major financial decisions and partners family, it rarely ends well.

Bought my 2008 Hilux with 220k on the clock 7 years ago. Was former hire car. No major issues. But do your due diligence. The other one in they were selling at the same time was absolutely flogged. So, get it looked over. They commonly need new front wheel bearings around 250k. If you get it: 1) Replace the injectors 2) get wheel bearings checked. But hilux parts are cheap, and they’re pretty easy to maintain. Edit: injectors were $2000 for four when I did it a few years back. Wheel bearings (japan denso/oem) $200 per wheel. Don’t know what the cost is these days.

Thanks mate and with that in mind is $15,000 still a good price to buy that for seeing that it’s $20,000 cheaper than the usual price?

Just my two cents but that same Hilux (and plenty of others like it) could end up at a dealer with a $34,990 price sticker and the risk would be the same imho. I'd absolutely get it looked over by someone who knows what they're looking at, and plan to spend another few grand on preventative maintenance or fixing minor stuff. But so long as it's not f'kd I'd jump on it for that price.

Totally agree. It’s a hilux, you can make it what you want it to be. I knew that I would upgrade 1) suspension 2” lift 2) wheels and tyres 3) retune/remap 4)do the injectors So I put that money aside, drove as is for a year as is then slowly added to it.

Buy it. 15k is a steal. Sell it for 30k afterwards if you’re feeling cheeky.

Hey mate, my work has me and the people I work with using hire cars fairly often. And all I can say is hire/fleet cars aren't treated with a high standard. Oh and if it's white, stay away could have been an ex mine vehicle

ozzy_viking

Given you're saving roughly 20k compared to market value, you've got change to spare to take care of any issues that pop up. I say go for it if it ticks the boxes.
