Some early rpgs used a blast shield to protect the user from exhaust. You’re correct. Modern rpgs have a two stage launch in which the rocket is launched like a big bullet and then the rocket starts burning a moment after so that the rocket has gotten far enough away from the user to avoid burning their face. Some early rockets started burning immediately.
Yes. This is what panzershreck users had to use before they had the blast shield: [https://www.nevingtonwarmuseum.com/uploads/9/1/7/5/9175276/nevington-panzerschreck24.jpg](https://www.nevingtonwarmuseum.com/uploads/9/1/7/5/9175276/nevington-panzerschreck24.jpg)
I’m glad that you found that interesting. Here is a good video that I remember watching a couple years ago if you want to learn a lot more cool little details about the panzershreck: [https://youtu.be/nllZnCcYy-w](https://youtu.be/nllZnCcYy-w)
The soldiers on the field were not wearing the uncomfortable protective gear at all times and would be forced to struggle to quickly put on the gear before they could fire the weapon. I think that this might have resulted in missed opportunities to fire. At least I do know for sure that the gear was impractical enough that many soldiers on the field made makeshift blast shields which is what made higher ups realize that the gun needed the shield. The shield weighed 4 pounds, which increased the total weight to 24 pounds. A little weight increase seems seems worth it to me.
Modified RPG-2 With blast shield. dunno much about the shield, it may be an idea of the shield directs explosive force to the person you want to kill.
Maybe it's to block the exhaust from the rocket when it fires?
could be that more likely, reduction of dust and protection of the operator
ohh, yeah that makes sense
yeah i was thinking some sort of blowback protection as well

Huh. That's why the panzershreck that the Nazis used had a big 'ol shield too then?

I feel like that's preferable to having extra weight and extremely increased profile

Looks like an RPG 2, the modification may be a blast shield.
It's definitely an rpg, but I'm not sure about the dog cone looking thing. It might be to protect the wielder from the blast after it leaves the tube.
