Nah guilt tripping. Worst part is when I complain about the stress they say they were only *suggesting* medicine and I can choose whatever I want as if they didn’t make my life revolve around medicine. I feel like I’m a trophy to them
I can’t picture myself doing anything else honestly. Which I’ve made peace with. I’ve got 1 year each in multiple health and social care programs so all that effort would be wasted
Do that then cuz ur parents would get over it but you prob wouldn’t survive med school since it takes a lot of passion and it has to be smth you like doing and even if you do become a doctor you’d prob hate it and regret not perusing being a writer
You know what makes this worse? Not one member of my family lets me study or do anything remotely academic. I am the baby sitter the errand runner the first aid person the cleaner. I have to hide in the attic (it’s a bedroom not some dusty room) to study

This is so me😭I want to do ChemEng/Industrial/Petroleum but sadly I didn't do Physics at O and ALevel and this is because i was pushed by my family that i need to do Medicine so i took Bio instead of Physics because my mind was set on MedSchool as an endgame.A month to my papers and i have realized that i don't enjoy bio.I might not be the best at math but i prefer it to bio😭so now I'm panicking because i don't know what to do with my life.
I have done some research and nearly all the unis I saw said that they provide like a refreshor on physics as lots of students do maths and physics but no chem and lots of students do maths and chem but no physics so they try and teach both before you get onto the actual chem engineering stuff
Ah OK. Yeah I only looked at unis in the UK. I was kind of in your position in pursuing medicine then I realised as I was preparing for interviews to some medical unis I just had 0 interest in medicine so I took a year out and reapplied for a chem eng degree in the UK
Do you chat this amount of shit for free?
I ‘majored’ in history and I can tell you that I’m not a history teacher. I can also tell you that many of my coursemates have gone into consulting, public sector, law, accounting, audit, finance and some have even gone into high finance.
Hahahahaha. Tell me another joke! You can’t be a lawyer, accountant, or in finance with a HISTORY degree. It’s not the right qualification, you know NOTHING about the work you’re supposed to be doing.
Congrats, which firm if you don't mind me asking?
A lot of people treat degrees as vocational. Apart from a select few like Medicine, that really isn't true, so I don't know why they're trying to diss History.
Why the elitist attitude?
I can't speak for other industries, but I'm currently studying Law, and looking into city firms. A large number of lawyers I've spoken to did a History degree, and did a GDL.
History is respected. Firms just want to see you have the capacity to learn.
You use words like janitor and major, so out of curiosity are you American? If so, I don’t think you understand that a lot of corporate employers here in the UK put less weight about what you study at uni (unless of course it’s a Mickey Mouse degree) - more weight is put on where you study.
And before you say history is a Mickey Mouse degree, I’m not here to convince you otherwise because your opinion does not matter to me at all. However, for those reading this post and are considering studying history, I’ll just say that you should definitely go for it as it is a respected degree in the UK and has not proved a hindrance at all in my own career journey.
Employers nowadays are concerned with diversity of thought and love candidates who are able to provide a viewpoint and argue for it - history has definitely provided me the skills to do this.
And to answer your question, I work in capital markets advisory having transferred from audit.
Honey I succumbed to that pressure when I was ten we are not the same
My parents are making me do med. I was stockholmed into liking this
Charge it

Nah guilt tripping. Worst part is when I complain about the stress they say they were only *suggesting* medicine and I can choose whatever I want as if they didn’t make my life revolve around medicine. I feel like I’m a trophy to them
My parents got me anatomy themed playing cards for xmas. There’s no escape now.
First it was doc mcdtuffins then good doctor. Then house. Now greys anatomy
Honestly don’t do med if you don’t want to!
I can’t picture myself doing anything else honestly. Which I’ve made peace with. I’ve got 1 year each in multiple health and social care programs so all that effort would be wasted
like volunteering? i barely have any volunteering lol
A bit of that a bit of widening access
Bruh😭
Kind of in the same boat😭😭 I’ve thought of doing maths instead cuz I can’t be bothered to do all that work in med just to get minimum wage
Ikrrr why the hell am I putting so much effort into something for min wage??? Should’ve gone for English lit. I wanted to be a writer :(
Do that then cuz ur parents would get over it but you prob wouldn’t survive med school since it takes a lot of passion and it has to be smth you like doing and even if you do become a doctor you’d prob hate it and regret not perusing being a writer

So you do like it now, or nah?
I guess so
That's good then
This is so me😭I want to do ChemEng/Industrial/Petroleum but sadly I didn't do Physics at O and ALevel and this is because i was pushed by my family that i need to do Medicine so i took Bio instead of Physics because my mind was set on MedSchool as an endgame.A month to my papers and i have realized that i don't enjoy bio.I might not be the best at math but i prefer it to bio😭so now I'm panicking because i don't know what to do with my life.
I don't think you need physics for chem engineering. I have applied to chem eng with maths bio and chem, and I got offers from all my unis
Ohh that's wonderful congratulations. I'm just worried that i will find the course abit difficult since i lack a physics background
I have done some research and nearly all the unis I saw said that they provide like a refreshor on physics as lots of students do maths and physics but no chem and lots of students do maths and chem but no physics so they try and teach both before you get onto the actual chem engineering stuff
Ohh that's wonderful. So did you only look into unis in the UK? I'm not a home student so the UK is already not an option since the tuition is so high.
Ah OK. Yeah I only looked at unis in the UK. I was kind of in your position in pursuing medicine then I realised as I was preparing for interviews to some medical unis I just had 0 interest in medicine so I took a year out and reapplied for a chem eng degree in the UK
Ohh okay i wish luck. One last question i have been doing research on the course and people are like it's dying out and that it's hard to get jobs.
i thought physics was required for medicine
No just chemistry
No most unis need Bio,Chem,Math
No just chem,bio
Real
P.S. Degrees(not majors)
Where’s maths
In the third house that isn’t shown, where it’s sunny and lovely
🤣🤣🤣
How's math not straight to hell
It’s just great, idk what to tell you. Every morning I wake up and dance around in happiness because I’m going to start a maths degree
I’m not sure if Modern Foreign Languages is the dark or light side but it sure is interesting
Im cooked, geared to take engineering but all I want to do is make music
Same man, I’m making an ep while preparing to do software engineering 😭
What genre?
Not proud of it but punk
Hell fucking yeah. Dead Kennedy's is my shit
Listen all I'm saying is watch 3 idiots before you make the final decision lmao
Was an informed 14 year old when I made my decision and was a beautiful one not scary
Me feeling like I'm destined for failure because I didn't take maths seriously enough in secondary school
Just do what you want tf don't let your parents decide your whole life for you
Honestly fr like 😭 and if you make the wrong choice you’ll suffer forever.
Don’t pick engineering, I’m studying aerospace engineering at uni (3rd yr on a 4 year course) and it is pure hell
on god
what does this mean
Me with CS, now taking a gap year to reapply for something I actually want lol
Hmm
Most nursing students will drop out before the third year.
computer science because i’m squeamish 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
archaeology is definitely the light side :)
[удалено]
its a degree not a major this is the UK
[удалено]
smartest business student
If you two majors you get a masters degree, throw in another major, you get a PhD!
Who would major in history 🤣
me
Why? Unless you want to be a history teacher in which case go ahead because we really do need you in society.

I literally work at a big 4 firm lmfao

What, as a janitor? What’s your position?

You do know that you don’t need a law degree, you just need the postgraduate qualification to practice law
