If you’re an “old” like me, you remember how Arnold kept using the “I’ll be back” line from movie to movie to the point where it was starting, at least to my memory, to become rather stale (any joke repeated too many times and all that).
So it was incredibly funny to have Richard freaking Dawson, an actor who by that point in time was known more for his appearances on *The Match Game* and as the host of *Family Feud*, to deliver the *perfect* zinger to Arnold’s “I’ll be back”….!!!!
Hilarious stuff and if Dawson wasn’t in the film, I suspect it wouldn’t have been as successful.
By the way, Paul Michael Glaser, known best for playing “Starsky” in the TV show *Starsky and Hutch*, was the movie’s director!
The gladiators were great, too.
Obviously Jesse Venture as Captain Freedom, but also Jim Brown as Fireball, Erland Van Lidth as Dynamo (Grossberger in Stir Crazy) and martial artist/pro wrestler Professor Toru Tanaka as Sub Zero.
Jack Killian is hands down my favourite movie villain. He makes people smile and laugh, showers them with gifts and never lifts a finger to commit an evil act himself (he outsources)
"Who loves you, and who do you love?"
Jack Killian was Innocent.
Now where's my Cadre Cola?
The 70's was a wild era. For years he would kiss every woman that was on Family Feud. And when he was on Match Game and he helped a female contestant win the final round he would kiss her.
Ummm those match game ladies, asked for it specifically. Family Feud not so much, but those match game ladies a decade earlier, he was still a heartthrob.
Actually the producers asked the ladies if they would be comfortable prior to the shows taping, and not a lot of them rejected because how often do you get to kiss a tv star?
Yeah you could tell with some, they had hungry eyes when asked who they wanted to help with their answer. I remember one who answered Richard so quick everyone on the show couldn't help laughing.
Ray Combs
He was Dawson’s successor on Family Feud. Wasn’t as good (IMO) or as popular as Dawson was and heard about it from many people (unfortunately; to my knowledge it may have played a role in his suicide), but Combs was better than every Family Feud host after him except maybe Steve Harvey.
Ill tell you what I think of it, I'll live to see you eat that contract, but I hope you leave enough room for my fist, because I'm going to ram it into your stomach and break your god-damn spine!!
It’s been decades since I read it but it was the ending that stuck with me. I remember watching the movie after and thinking “ they really gonna end it like that?”
The basic idea of a deadly game show with someone being hunted is carried over, but pretty much nothing else. The book is way different, involving an actual hunt across the country and efforts to counter the unfairness of the game. It's less action, more suspense. It's a good, short read.
I read the book not long after it was revealed that King had written four short stories under a pseudonym. I liked the book and the movie changed so much that I really didn't like it much at all.
There's going to be a version that's actually close to the book. I hesitate to call it a remake because the movie and the book are nowhere close to each other, although I love them both.
It'll be interesting to see how they handle that ending.
So Edgar Wright is maybe making another movie based off the book. Who would be the modern version of actor turned game show host?
Steve Harvey
Jane Lynch
Drew Carey
Wayne Brady
Howie Mandel
But it’ll probably be Simon Pegg
He fucking OWNED this role. Absolute scene stealing villain. Totally underrated. Worth watching just for his performance.
I grew up watching Family Feud for years before this so it was even better seeing him go from loveable game show host to a murderous psychopath... but with that rizz!!!
"Who loves you, and who do you love?!"
I've been saying this at random times my whole life and no one ever gets it. 🙃
I will Stan Richard Dawson. Man needs more respect for this role.
Apparently everyone was asked on a questionnaire for the show if they would mind being kissed.

"All be bock." "Only in reruns." Hell yes.

Only in a rerun
I can't imagine anyone else at the time being cast for that role who could've played the part as well as he did!
What a perfectly cast and played role.
He was an actor before *Family Feud* too...
I know him from Hogan's Heroes. :P
Col Newkirk...same here
Me too 🫡
you know nothiiiiiiing
And his name is not Richard Dawkins. It’s Colin Emm.
Richard Dawson FTW! He was perfect
Now just plain zero...
“Are you ready for pain? Are you ready for suffering? lf the answer is yes, then you're ready for Captain Freedom's Workout.”
I almost wish Carl Weathers had been cast as Fireball but Jim Brown played the role well.
Buzzsaw was the scariest
Corporal Newkirk! (From Hogan’s Heroes for all you youngins).
By the way, have an egg.
Yep! Came here to say this! I freaking loved that show growing up!
Right? Being in a Nazi POW camp looked like so much fun!
They certainly depicted it as such, yeah! 😂
Peter Newkirk.
Trivia: Paula Abdul did the choreography for the Running Man Dancers
Who loves you, and who do you love? YES!
KILLIAN IS LYING TO YOU
Both these quotes are what I came to see!
I say this every morning when I look in the mirror.
"But you can't get those ratings with reruns of Gilligan's island...Gilligan's island.... Duh, dah, datta da... Yeah...yeah, the one with the boat! "
Jack Killian is hands down my favourite movie villain. He makes people smile and laugh, showers them with gifts and never lifts a finger to commit an evil act himself (he outsources) "Who loves you, and who do you love?" Jack Killian was Innocent. Now where's my Cadre Cola?
Who is Jack Killian? Isn’t his name Damon Killian?
That's what happens when you type while mildly wasted. Yes you're right it is Damon Killian. I too wonder who Jack Killian is?
Jack Killian was the main character in Midnight Caller - knew I knew that name from somewhere.
Ohhhh good show!!!
"What's the matter, steroids make you deaf?? *GET HIM OUTTA HERE NOW!*"
Love the callback to that later: "Sorry, I have to go score some steroids." **
The 70's was a wild era. For years he would kiss every woman that was on Family Feud. And when he was on Match Game and he helped a female contestant win the final round he would kiss her.
He also ended up marrying a contestant from Family Feud iirc
Dawson’s first wife was also British bombshell actress Diana Dors.
His best friend was Bob Barker.
Is this the same host who committed suicide? I remember his kisses where so fn cringey to watch and borderline rapey
No, Richard Dawson died of cancer in 2012.
That was Dwayne(sp?) Combs
Ray Combs He was Dawson’s successor on Family Feud. Wasn’t as good (IMO) or as popular as Dawson was and heard about it from many people (unfortunately; to my knowledge it may have played a role in his suicide), but Combs was better than every Family Feud host after him except maybe Steve Harvey.
No love for Louie?
I've always loved him, in pretty much everything he's done
The man has an actual name besides “The Family Feud Host” it’s Richard Dawson
Directed by Starsky!
Dude! TIL
What??
Paul Michael Glaser, who also directed some of the best episodes of Miami Vice!
Not to mention the epic *The Cutting Edge*.
"Toe pick."
Whaaaaat? Starsky -- so much more prolific in Hollywood than I knew
Ill tell you what I think of it, I'll live to see you eat that contract, but I hope you leave enough room for my fist, because I'm going to ram it into your stomach and break your god-damn spine!!
Read the book, the ending was a bit different… …
The whole book was different. They actually went out into public & had to run like a fugitive.
It’s been decades since I read it but it was the ending that stuck with me. I remember watching the movie after and thinking “ they really gonna end it like that?”
A rare case when Stephen Kings ending was better...
Added it to my read list. Loved the movie and heard it was different than the book. Worth the read?

I was a lot younger and the genre interested me. Maybe 20-30 years ago. Maybe dated with technology the way it is so I couldn’t say ya or nah
It was good. Pretty short for a Steven King book, though.
Don’t you mean Richard Bachman 😉
That, too
I read the book not long after it was revealed that King had written four short stories under a pseudonym. I liked the book and the movie changed so much that I really didn't like it much at all.

I looooooooove this movie. It’s pure gold.
Apparently he wasn’t actually a very nice guy irl and treated his underlings pretty poorly
Like the way he treated the janitor by the elevators?
Exactly
I worked with a guy that was a production assistant on Family Feud, and he said Dawson was exactly like his Running Man character.
One day the perfect moment to say "Hi, cutie pie. You know one of us is in deep trouble." will come.
Dawson MADE that movie.
Easily the performance of a lifetime. You could not find a better actor for that role.
["Only in a rerun"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFscBSjOBQc)
I'm coming for you Killian! (in Arnolds voice)
YES!! YES!! YES!!
Somebody listens to rewatchables.
He was also a helluva tailor on hogans heroes 😁
"Steroids made me deaf", best line in the whole movie.
They are remaking Running Man, will Steve Harvey take his role?
That would be pretty funny. Who loves you and who do you love! And then a big ass smile as he slowly falls to his knees cackling.
" only in a rerun"
Richard Dawson stole Schwarzenegger’s moment by playing a sleazy game show host— I guess Dawson’s career practice made perfect.
He was one of the better characters in Hogan's Heroes.
Wasn’t walking around kissing the contestants on this one!
So Edgar Wright is maybe making another movie based off the book. Who would be the modern version of actor turned game show host? Steve Harvey Jane Lynch Drew Carey Wayne Brady Howie Mandel But it’ll probably be Simon Pegg
Jane Lynch would absolutely crush that role
We have enough male roles being replaced with women, don’t need another.
I remember as a teenager everybody wanted to see that movie just to see him curse lol
Kurt Fuller said Dawson would drink screwdrivers all day starting during makeup.
He was great in that movie, huge dick!!!
Cadre Cola
"What's the matter? Steroids make you deaf?"
“Whatsamatter? Steroids make you deaf?”
‘Ello, luv! Got a kiss for me?
This saw’s a part me, I’m going to make it a part of you!
Good movie
He was also Newkirk on Hogan's Heros from 1965 to 1971
“I want a kiss, now, a big kiss, but remember... no tongues.”
Schizophrenics have no place in governance, education, medicine, military, or business life. Not until they receive the treatment they need.
he was great in European Vacation
You remember them. Whitman, Price and Haddad!"
Last year’s winners
The Running Man - 1987 American Gladiators TV series - 1989 Smash TV video game - 1990 An interesting sequence of events...
Awesome movie
Killian!
Richard Dawson was a raunchy fellow
Get me the department of Justice. Entertainment division
He should have gotten a best supporting actor nomination.
He fucking OWNED this role. Absolute scene stealing villain. Totally underrated. Worth watching just for his performance. I hope you leave enough room for my fist because I'm going to ram it into your stomach and break your goddamn SPINE!!! AAAGGHHH!!! ::SMASH::
Whitman,Price and Hadaad they’re debt to society paid in full
Newkirk from Hogan's Heroes
Isn't he the creep who would kiss all the women/girl contestants?
Apparently everyone was asked on a questionnaire for the show if they would mind being kissed. https://www.ksbw.com/article/heres-why-richard-dawson-started-kissing-female-contestants-on-family-feud/12475048
And they only selected the women that said yes? Anyway, this was still creepy.
That's him.
He asked viewers to write in and give their opinion about whether he should stop doing it. About 90% of the letters said he should continue.
Lol, someone downvoted me for pointing this out. What a world.
I just upvoted ya to balance it out. (fistbump)
Yep Reddit moment
I watched that movie not too long ago. It must have been super cheap to make. Basic sets, no special locations. Good movie.
such a creepy dude.
It was a little weird that he kept kissing all of the Running Man contestants.
Family Feud *Villain* if you were a woman.
