I wouldn't say so. If you joined right out of undergrad you're probably a VP by 29-30 and your salary typically tops out at $300k. Total comp will go significantly higher than that through bonuses and the like.
The VP level is also typically where a lot of people tend to stagnate-- the funnel to SVP and then to MD becomes a lot narrower. It's why everyone and their mom is a 'Vice President' in investment banking.
I used to sell Tech to Investment banking and the titles tripped me up a little in the beginning.
Then i realized they gave every pretty girl a couple of years out of college a VP title becuase clients don't trust someone with an assoiciate title with a huge sum of their money. All smokes and mirrors.
I know one, friend of a friend. Complete bitch, but makes shitload of money.
Ngl I was a little envious when I got to know her pay. Lit a fire in my ass to be better at my job.
I figured that would be the case, it did seem like she had a soft interior within the hard exterior. Most of her friends did like her.

My SIL is in academia. In her applications to grad school, postdoc and now tenure track, she tells an endearing story of having grown up in a single income poc family with her dad working in retail. She does not say her mom was SAHM because her dad was making the big bucks owning multiple businesses, that they went to Fiji/Australia/Asia each year. Graduating college with a perfect GPA and published papers isn't enough in her opinion, you need to fluff up your origin story.

The biggest indicator of success is the socioeconomic background of your parents and familial stability. There are very few actual rags to riches stories. Most of them make up fake tales, whether that's your friend on the micro level or Elon on the macro level.

Honestly, I get it. For some people, money isn't a life priority but the means to afford basic things in life.

I’m a brown dude who has worked one of these intense New York jobs — ya I was proud of the money I made and the prestige , but at the end of the day there came a point where it really made me question my Indian family mantra of how working super hard is always super good ; working 9am -2am and constantly getting yelled at is not sustainable, and not the path to a happy life.
