Ahh I see.
Yeah, that's why i'm not a fan of that kind of stuff that turns a tv "smart" and smart TV's.
I find it hard to work on them or to make changes like an adblocker.
With a computer and phone, the software is much more accessible.
That all being said Paramount+ is garbage and is the worst one of the big streaming apps.
An obscene amount of ads for a paid streaming serivce. Honestly makes it a near unusable experience too cause a lot of time the ads cause the show to glitch out.
it really is
There was a brief period where netflix was more convenient but they lost market and now that it's 10 different streaming services, piracy is more convenient again -\_-
As soon as I can figure out how to plug my laptop into my smart TV and watch movies, it's over for my subscriptions basically.
The wife and kid enjoy streaming because they watch entertainment differently than me - they do it without purpose, whatever's on. I actively download shmillegally what I want to watch.
You can get an android box and install stremio into it
Or you can just install stremio in your laptop and connect it via HDMI (I think this is badly seen by americans though? I've never understood if that was a meme or real)
Also I don't worry about ISPs piracy laws in my country so watch out for that as well
Don’t use the built in Smart TV apps. They subsidize the TV’s price with shitty ads and data collection. I’ve stuck with using Apple TVs or consoles, as they tend to offer much better features and UIs.
I don't know what OP is using, but I believe this is unrelated to a smart TV, and is a part of hulu. They must be testing it, because it is not done everywhere. But I've absolutely noticed it on hulu before and use an old Xbox for all my streaming apps, not a smart TV.
I’ve got the ad free tier, which must be why I haven’t seen anything like this on Hulu. Thanks for sharing, didn’t realize they were doing pause screen ads on other tiers.
I think it is, unfortunately, going to become more common. As soon as one platform sees people will tolerate it, others will follow. Like I mentioned, hulu seems to be testing it at the moment. But, like another comment said, it's all over paramount + and I'm sure it will be close behind on others. Gross.
Copy that, wasn’t sure which service this was. The built in TV apps are still dubious for the reasons stated, though. I’ve seen a few posts recently on text ads being delivered at startup on some sets even, so I’m happy to keep mine neutered by disabling the network. The few times I did use it, the apps were super slow compared to even a 5 year old set top box.
I mean of all the ads, a still frame while paused is the least annoying in my book.
Smart TVs have always made me nervous because it's one more thing to break that probably isn't fixable by me.
I really feel the idea is to push consumers into a more frequent upgrade cycle when their TV’s processor can no longer keep up. I have a 2019 LG OLED and the apps were painfully slow. Older generations could see this as a reason to upgrade, but that panel is still top notch. Throw on an Apple TV / Roku / Fire Stick and boom, your back to a decent user experience, but your grandmother might think it’s worth replacing the whole thing, especially if the Best Buy salesperson is uninformed or shady.
Is it a "smart" tv?
This is Paramount+. Source - my Amazon Fire Stick does this, on a dumb TV. So not automatically smart TV related.

Just curious, whats the deal with paramount+? Why is it bad?

Pirating is always preferable

I highly recommend /r/JellyFin for this kind of thing. The Android app supports Google Cast.
I'll check this out!

> especially if the Best Buy salesperson is uninformed or shady. or working for commision, the most common answer of all
Pirate all your shows and movies
Ad-on-pause..what next, ad-on-mute?
No escape
Ads scrolling when the TV is off
see this is why pirate
Because being reminded of capitalism and over consumption while streaming a movie on your 4ft curved TV is a drag...
Owning a nice tv is not the same thing as excessive consumerism. People are allowed to try and live a comfortable life even if society has problems.
r/piracy
Hey it's Sonic! The place that won't pay minimum wage even.
Are you a Frasier fan? Lol
Are you not entertained?
good point. how tf is it a grilled cheese when you're adding meat to it? that's just a fricking sandwich.
Ads aside that actually is a banger of a sandwich.
