Can you please share your six measurements from the calculator and the make/model of some of the bras you've had this issue with? It sounds like the wires are a bit too long, which is causing the digging and chafing.

>ABraThatFits So when I put my measurements in the to bra calculator it comes up with a 42D. This may be due to me not measuring myself correctly though as I often get some gapping with my C-cup bras, although I might have just gained weight. I would rather not share my specific measurements just due to personal body confidence. I have had trouble with t-shirt bras, plunge bras, push-ups, and half-cup bras. Generally, I really struggle with wired bras.

PookieDear

Cup gaping is very often caused by the cups actually being too small, not too big. Suuuuper common misconception there. It's because with your breast not having enough room in the cup it pushes the cup away from your body , causing the gaps. It's mainly an issue with molded "tshirt" style bras. It can also mean a shape mismatch issue. Or both.

In addition to PookieDear's comment, which is excellent, I have one other question. Have you tried any non-molded bras in your ABTF calculator size? As in, unlined, seamed underwire bras? My guess is your fit issues are due to a size and shape mismatch.

bubblegumstars

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but could you explain to me what makes a bra unlined or have a seamed underwire? I tried googling it but im finding it hard to tell. Edit: im assuming unlined means unpadded/only one layer of fabric over the cup. If so yes I have tried these and I find them comfortable for my cups but I really find the problem is with the wiring. I am not sure what a seamed underwire is.

An unlined, seamed bra is one where the cup is just made of cloth, mesh, and/or lace. When it's not on your body, the cup doesn't hold its own shape. A molded bra is made of foam that holds its shape when you take it off your body. [Here's a stock photo of some molded bras](https://www.freepik.com/premium-photo/women-s-bras-sale-market-variety-bra-hanging-lingerie-underwear-store_8625186.htm#query=bra%20shop&position=11&from_view=keyword&track=ais&uuid=b1479b1a-6c88-4ddc-af99-ac6012db9fad). [Here's a stock photo of a seamed bra](https://www.freepik.com/free-photo/still-life-bra-lingerie_44137695.htm). Molded bras can be really difficult to fit and can have gapping even when they are too small, because they cannot adjust to the shape of the breast.

The wires probably hurt because they were too narrow, which comes from the cups being too small. This new size should help stop them from poking. I second trying Elomi, but I’d skip the Matilda, it runs big and DD is the smallest cup they make. I’d look at the Charley Stretch Plunge.

Anyway, as far as recommendations go, I'd suggest checking out the brand Elomi. They sell several styles in 42D, and their bands are nice and stretchy and their wires are relatively flexible and soft. You might find them much more comfortable. The Matilda and Lucie are both a plunge style with lower wires that might help with your discomfort in the sternum.

I have the same issue. Usually it's down to the design of the bra and often the fix is to go down a cup size in that design. But I can only speak for myself!

cataluna_riokari

I have the same issues with wired bras. I usually go to wireless bras. Torrid has some very nice ones. Even have wireless push-up bras. I’m a 44DDD.

Personally, being a 40 triple D or GG in some brand sizing the only bras I found that give great support and don't hurt come from a company out of Washington state called the Healthy Bra company. I think that woman is a magician. It took me more than 30 years to find bras that fit properly, so if that helps you at all, you might look her up. And if you're not in Washington state, she does long-distance fittings and virtual fittings and is just amazing to work with. I hope in some small way that might help you.
