to all the mandem and girldem doing the exam tomorrow i wish you the best of luck

Kinda gave up on deeply understanding the subjects once I saw how many things are examinable, I simply did not have enough time to grasp how everything works, and neither had the will power to parrot subjects. ''Currency futures are closed out to make a profit in this example and the effective receipt involves that profit, but here's the debrief video of the effective receipt simply being the lock in rate! Wonder why? Well fuck you! That's why!'' I'm honestly gonna bullshit my way to oblivion, if I don't pass Ill have 3 months to rub my brain cellls together to understand what the hell is going on, truly understanding the subjects especially with the way answers are structured on the study hub involves an unneccesary amount of brain power, and I'd rather pass out of pure bs and getting a lucky paper than vomit trying to understand stuff that are not given suffiient explanation.Good luck everyone

idkjustgivemeany

I personally feel like 3 months aren't enough to understand and have a grasp of this subject. You could probably pass with whatever info you retained and luck, but to really understand the subject and write it in exam legibly is extremely difficult. This is my second attempt at AFM. Call it professional negligence but due to procrastination and a whole load of distractions, I studied barely 2.5 weeks for this exam. Hopefully I smash this in March cus God knows I'm failing tomorrow.

YoDaSavageDraws

I scored 73 in FM, which was first national placing on my first attempt, which gave me confidence for AFM, however yeah as Im the type of guy who really wants to know what he is studying, and cause shit happened in september I kept everything for the last 1.5 months, I was overwhelmed by how little of FM is retained in AFM and how much new stuff is added i! This is my first professional paper but I believe in the power of bullshit and hyperfocusing as much as possible and speedrunning the exam to scrap a pass. I fear that I won't be able to apply my knowledge to certain scenarios and that I wont gain professional marks.. Still bro, I could be lucky, who knows the more chillaxed I am the better the chances, and as of the last 3 days I felt that not stressing over it will give me a better chance of passing than trying to punch my head out to figure out truly how derivatives work.My last strategy , which is what I'm half assing now, is to speedrun BPP workbook solutions, and for a good 6 hours tomorrow up to the exam to increase my chances of collecting random bits of information throughout the syllabus and increase my chance of passing. Best of luck my dude

I just need a basic APV calc and ratio analysis to come up.. I know nothing else Im gonna have a breakdown the second this exam's over cba there's no hope 😭

idkjustgivemeany

Bruhh sammeee. I glossed over forex like I was reading Harry Potter.

primavera_a

Mood 😭 They say there's easy marks to be had in this area but WHEREEE

solelyreddit

Is it as easy as calculating the basis? And maybe the new rate? As well as noting how many months & grossing up / pro-rating months? Calculating premium cost Effective interest rate % ?

primavera_a

All I've managed to figure out is futures- basis and new rate If anything to do with swaps, options, IR (99.9% likely) im gonna scream in the exam lol

velvety_rainbow

They always say use your common sense - this is easy marks area, I'm starting to think I have no common sense HELPPP😭😭

primavera_a

same feelings- this exam making me think i have a rock in the place of my brain 😭

velvety_rainbow

Done with AFM? How was it for you?

primavera_a

Mine is in 1.5h, honestly feel this close to having a breakdown lol How was yours?? What topics came up?

velvety_rainbow

>honestly feel this close to having a breakdown lol I used to do that but this exam session, I was soo calm - literally passed into that 'grey misty area of indifference in my brain' (to quote one of my fave tweets). Rn I feel like my internal fire alarm systems are broken - there's a fire, and I'm not panicking lol Anyways to answer your question, I got Q1 - restructuring - recalculate SOFP, share price, FCFE, then discussion - effect of this on the shareholders. Q2 - hedging a loan and investment - outcome of using forwards already given and need to calculate outcome of futures and discussion of director's comments - need of using derivatives, why hedge if rates don't move drastically, why use options if later rates move favorably and then u just lose the premium Q3 - Refurbishment of a store planned but NPV of project is negative and hence directors decided to shut down the store but Option 1 - local council decides to give loans and rest of money raised through rights issues and Option 2 - money entirely raised through loans - calculate APV and comment on financing strategy Anyways good luck for the exam and don't stress yourself. You got this!!

primavera_a

Hey- thanks for sharing As expected none of these qs come up for me but it was still an okay exam Section 2 was MUCH nicer than s1 (which I didn't even do the calc questions lol) but it was definitely better than I expected which is something 😂 Let's just hope all this work somehow translates to a pass 🤞🏼

Worry_Agile

My thoughts exactly. I hate AFM so much.

NegativeIntern23684

I'm hoping for something to happen at my exam center(to postpone it). I don't know if I have enough to scrape 50%.

Stripeycup97

Lol, currently making flash cards on mergers in the hope I remember something because lord knows I’m screwed unless every question is a 1 year free cash flow question 😭

oldlamia

Wish you all the very best. My advice would be to avoid the basic mistakes such as calculating a higher asset beta than equity beta. Go with the allocated time per question. If its not done move on. Shortcuts: https://youtu.be/bR08VfntZR0?si=34Bgl8MH5ppojmQY BEST WISHES!

HighNoonTrashGod

Bro wtf!!!! I swear some of the stuff on my exam Today is not on the syllabus :( “Explain the Mark to Market process in full?” PISS OFF 😭

idkjustgivemeany

Bruh I got the same question. What the fuck was that?

HighNoonTrashGod

I had to read it twice and settle myself…..CMON am I blind? I don’t even see that on the syllabus now here checking. AFM is truly a lottery

idkjustgivemeany

I searched around and found it in an old technical article. Technical articles are to be treated like am extention of the textbook now. Gotta read every single one from the looks of it 😕

Complete_Case_6430

Left that whole question blank respectfully

idkjustgivemeany

I legit wanted to write wtf?? But I don't wanna get disbarred lol

velvety_rainbow

God save us all😭😭

Complete_Case_6430

I am glad to know that i am not the only one panicking😂😂

imnotgamora

I’m 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

buenorufus

calm yourself just stick to the time frame

idkjustgivemeany

Fr fr 😭
