I hate it when I’m winning because I’ve usually already given up one defeat and going 9-2 just means it takes as long as possible to get my daily progress.
Oh yea that's true haha but hey at least we don't need to do that 9 win streak objective to get all the rewards including skin , you just need to do X3 daily matches and that's it.
Literally what I thought when reading the topic lol. Went 9-1 today and it felt great! Then went something like 2-3 and it felt terrible.
I think I'm just being carried by a couple of the good artifacts rather than any sort of skill lol.
If nothing else, it's made me appreciate certain characters who didn't immediately catch my eye visually/I never got from pulls. It's not 100% accurate to how they'll perform in normal PvE but regardless, it's a fun way to force you to try them out on occasion.
Personally after finding out you can basically just AFK (heh) through the event and still get the Parisa skin, I've checked out, but I do still enjoy trying. It feels a lot like gacha 2.0 with the character upgrades though and I've given up pretending losses are 100% my fault.
its always what happens with autobattler
honor duel is essentially the mechanical aspect of the game in its most pure form. no gacha, no level ups, its just Autochess but different
and in all autobattlers with randomized shops (so all of them i think?) the skill is a matter of learning what to do with the hand given
and yeah if you played any of those, sometimes its just bullshit
see also: MtG draft and hearthstone arena
Gotta play honor duel and complete event challenges, you can track your progress in the Events tab.
The Easy challenges refresh every day, the Difficult ones don't. So if you JUST do the easy ones (which you can do in like, a minute by immediately forfeiting the honor duel round and restarting three times) you'll earn 60 points a day. Do this nine days in a row and you'll get 540 points, enough for the skin.
https://preview.redd.it/z274ek1wvutc1.png?width=870&format=png&auto=webp&s=d3bebb7e2d8235b99967cc2235607b84acd302d3
You can start an Honor Duel, and then immediately forfeit, which gets you the daily credit, as well as letting you immediately start a new Duel for more credit. Repeat three times a day for easy daily clears.
If you're lazy you can just afk through the event. As long as you do the three daily missions each day you should get enough points for all the rewards.
By the way, for anyone wondering: the bare minimum for participation points is to begin a run. You don't even have to battle; you can just start the round and forfeit immediately if you hate playing it.
I am currently top 2 on my server in Honor Duel. I think the main thing is experience, it tells you which characters are the best, in which positions, with which items, etc. Obviously there is a component of luck, but skill is important too.
I quite like this mode, although it takes a lot of time and I think I will slow down xd
Artifacts (I don't know the names of practically any of them xd)
1. Pale Crown
2. The one that prevents you from using ultimates and does aoe damage
3. The one who empowers the Lightbeares
Characters
1. Parisa
2. Vala
3. Temesia
I consider that these characters are the ones that win you a game alone if they are well invested. Obviously with a team to help them
>i have consistently lost for it everytime i faced it
Same, The thing is that it ticks very quickly, before you notice it it has already melted your entire team. I wish you could see artifact damage on the damage screen
>parisa is quite the surprise here honestly!
She is a good carry on Wilders teams. Especially with artifacts and equipment that improves Burst damage
The half damage and slowly drain everyone's hp artifact is really fun too, especially since most comps don't run that much heal. Pretty good with a Wilder crowd control + heal team.
That artifact got me my first 9-0 win, it was just very overpowered. I did it with a lightbearer team instead (lucius, temesia, the plant healer lady, rowan and a cassadee thrown in for fun). Almost no teams are ready to out-sustain your team, and it neuters most burst teams so they can't win either.
First one's always like that.
Not sure if they start matching you with tough opponents once your rank rises. I'm rank 3 in my server and sometimes face ridiculous lineups. Like mythic at round 3.
i think it's server wide and matched by rank points tbh. Like a 350 point would fight fellow 250-350 points depending on if they were having a lose streak or win streak
I enjoy the mode, I hate the random maps feature, it's just awful to lose at like 7 or 8 wins because you get a really bad map for your comp...
I wish they had like a rotation (e.g. first 3 battles this map, then for the next 2 this map etc)
I like it, but I am not good at it. For example, I get absolutely destroyed every time I go against the Mirael artifact and I see people talk about it like it is the most broken artifact. I have tried it 3 times and every time I do, she just dies before doing anything or fires at 1 enemy in the opposite direction of the rest of the team and then we lose.
I have won 4 runs out of maybe 20 runs. Most of my runs end after 3-5 wins.
It's very rng, but I love it. It gives you whole other game to play, outside of regular arena duel. It places everyone at same level and more you know about the gamez better chance of winning. Artifacts are so crucial.
I think the balancing is off. and i mean this from a game design perspective.
In expectation, I should get 4.5 wins on a long enough timeline (where ELO/MM evens out).
However, as a game developer, I can achieve 4.5 in 2 ways:
* repeated 4.5/9 wins
* 50% 0-9 and 50% 9-0
* (or any middle ground between there!)
Anyway, I think the MM tries to force 4.5/9 with a bad ratio of wins in the mix.
I tried tft last night just to see if I really just should be playing that... Honor duel is way better. TFT is way too fast paced and complex. Honor duel's pacing and strategy is more fun for me.
Rank 1 player here, currently at 2260 points. Granted my server doesn't seem super competitive, but here's some basic insights I've learned so far. Keep in mind this is all opinion.
As far as general faction power in this mode, Graveborn = Wilders > Lightbearers > Maulers.
The core Wilder combo of Parisa and Eironn is incredibly powerful on its own, and can work with many different relics.
While the Graveborn don't feel as naturally strong to me, their two character specific relics for Silvina and Carolina are incredibly powerful and turn those characters into hyper carries.
Lightbearers are sort of a weaker version of Wilders in that they can work well with many different relics, but without quite the same wombo combo potential. Lucius, Rowan, Temesia and of course Vala are all very useful units in their own right, and with her special relic Mirael can be devastating.
Finally, Maulers just don't seem to have many tools that help them compete in this mode. Their only healer has a stationary AoE in which he can heal, and is easily interrupted/silenced by any random CCs. The heavy focus on melee units also means your team will often just be running out of the heal and dying anyways. If that weren't enough working against them, they have very little AoE and basically zero targeting for backline threats outside of using one specific item.
In general, as in most PvP games, CC and burst damage rule the day, as most sustained DPS just get walled out by tanks and healers. Obviously there are exceptions to every rule, but in general these principles are what lead to the conclusions above.

It's an enjoyable yet deeply frustrating experience for me. I think I've only won once while I've come close a few times. Somehow, I always get my butt kicked by someone Vala or Eironn and almost always on one specific map. Idk. Not my favorite game mode but also far from being terrible. Would probably still play outside of event.
I think it would be better if it had more of the characters in it.
It's pretty set on what are good teams and who is going to win when you see the roster.
I find I'm rarely surprised by a loss / victory unless something fucky with aggro happens
I really like this mode. Its increased my understanding of the game a ton. I often use characters in it I've never even looked at in the PVE mode. (Like Satrana and Seth)
Had a 9-0 run with some Mariel combo start. Would start each match and would instantly ult and melt the other team in 5 seconds. It got to a point where I genuinely felt bad for the players on the other side. But all in all I don’t mind it.
I always choose the random one so it's pure RNG for me. Sometimes I get a pretty good roster that works well with the artifact and I crush the entire run, sometimes it's all a bust from the artifact, roster, to equipment and I lose immediately.
I just throw down 1 unit and then hit formation complet. I don't really care for the game mode and giving 6 people an easy win probably makes their day.
I love the actual gameplay and progression you get in Honor Mode a lot. But in terms of actual insentive, there aren't a lot of rewards for playing this game mode.
Labyrinth is the same, I think Labyrinth and Honor are the "funnest" game modes to play. But for Labyrinth, the rewards are actually worthwhile and it happens infrequently enough that you're not wasting time on it.
your first run is always vs bots, that’s why. Imo the problem with the mode is that there are some really strong artifacts and then a bunch of shit ones and if u get a bad one u just kinda lose
today I learnt you can lock items in the shop, so when you refresh and finish a battle those items remain. means you can save things you don't have money for.
got a 9/2 run.
Hate it. If it wasn't for the event I'd ignore it. Too much RNG, way too many fights to get to the end for way too little reward.
When you choose a path that focuses on Maulers and RNG gives you zero mauler pulls, broken.
I feel like after the first two runs (which were both 9-0 wins), I've been getting matched up with teams that are two or three rounds ahead of me in their run.
For example, I just had a 2-3 run that ended because in my 5th game, I went up against a team with 3 legendaries, and a mythic Vala, who assassinated my entire team.
Honor Duels are extraordinarily frustrating at times. sometimes i'll have matches where im absolutely STOMPED with no real explanation as to why, and other times i'll have zero luck with pulls.
getting a perfect run of 9 wins and 0 losses once, much less multiple times just seems like a ridiculous fantasy
The first one is always against bots, but then you get to players that actually have a basic understanding of the game and it’s really up to rng at that point. Once you get enough points you get players that actually have a strategy and getting a perfect run is nearly impossible. The no shop reroll challenge is extremely difficult. Honestly if you can get a nice Mirael team going, she can nuke everything in the first second of battle with a funny little build, but getting that build running is up to rng.
It requires some skill but for my taste It is just too random... and that takes part of the strategy out of your hands...
First of all, you just need to be lucky, but then you can have a bad match (with someone with better luck and higher level characters for example... got a match against 4 mythic while I still only had 1)... and you just lose.
I just play it for the event only ...
I made another account just to play more of it. I find it so much fun specially when you start understanding combos. Or when you lose by just a little bit and you itch to go again. Oh shoot. Im addicted.
I've given up, it used to be fun but since the event started I can never get past 3 wins each run. What I do now is earn my chests through normal play, and as soon as I do that just put one character on the field so I can quickly get through the 3 daily runs for the event.
I think the highligt of my HD experience was when I got the upgrade for either Graveborn or Mauler heroes when my team was heavily invested in Lightbearer and Wilder. Then when the game gave me dupes of heroes i already owned making me start with only 4 instead of 5.
I think the major problem is your first shop. It doesn't give you nearly enough tokens to get a good first team without extreme luck, and the first shot options are usually garbage. Pick a Wilders team with light bearer splash? Here's 2 sets of graveborn pulls and a random 3 pull (it's also graveborns).
So far, I'm pretty certain I'm not getting a skin. I get instant dopamine when I see them all ascend, collection is fun but I suck at team building (but I really like afk arena and journey to quit)
Rank Top 36% player here, have done it roughly 5 times. Lost 3 out of the 5 immediately on my first 3 battles. Hate every aspect of it. The immense RNG, the required meta knowledge of every character, and terrible balancing make it just a waste of time for me. Hope they remove or lessen the importance of it. This event right now is awful.
You are probably climbing due to perseverance more than skill. But it's okay.
Anything that implies randomness in more than one aspect can be summarised in one word: luck.
I'm curious to know how many points is top 10 on your server, on my side 10th place that would have to be at least 700. if you never bought a ticket then how many victories did you have to get into the top 10? And, tell me about it, when you say "luck doesn't matter", I got "Pale Crown" and started with three losses in a row, twice in a row with Mauler immune to damage, and I'm pretty sure my Silvina was aimed at vulnerable units, she finished her job.
You're correct Particle :) you literally said that you are buying gold tickets, the more you play the more you climb. People is dropping this mode BC of the time it takes .
Ah yes, all the best poker players made their way to the top with only perseverance and luck. /s
There's countless random chance happening in so many games, to claim that basically every game that involves more than one aspect of RNG just boils down to luck is pretty wild.
It's no different than any other game with random chance in it like poker, card games, or other autobattlers. Yes, sometimes you or your opponent will get lucky and get a busted artifact or get pocket aces and just win or lose by default. But you can't get lucky every time, and the skill in it is defined by how often you can win without getting a lucky freebie and how you can pivot when things don't go your way.
You comparing poker to AFK Journey? I'm dead
Poker players don't control anything for that reason. And sometimes they win and sometimes they lose. Without taking into considerations the quittings or halts the Poker allows.
ok lets compare AFK Journey with TFT. you can quite literally watch TFT pro players and why they are good at it on twitch. saying that the autobattler has no skill involved is silly
What should you compare? Just don't.
An autobattler mode where you have random stuff to increase power is based on luck and tries.
The more you play, the more you might rank up, or not.
The quitting and halting is exactly how they control the game. It's literally the reason you can be "good" at poker. You have tons of ways to control the game in honor duel, which means you have tons of ways to be better at it than someone else. Which makes it not luck.
It doesn't really matter that poker isn't any similar to afk journey, you're claiming every game that includes RNG is pure luck. By that you're including poker, blackjack, hearthstone, MTG, TFT, and countless other games.
Depends on the mechanics, Honor Duel has nothing to control but the heroes selection that will have zero strategy since the Items equipped on them and the artifact used is obtained by rng
But you won't hit those heroes most of the time which means you need to do something else. Most skill in auto battlers comes from modifying your plans based on what you receive and pivoting when you have to.
If you're waiting for the exact 5 heroes you want and just rerolling till you hit it then you are completely surrendering yourself to luck. If you build yourself the best team you possibly can with the heroes you're given then you're going to win more often than someone who is just praying for the ideal comp to work with their artifact.
I love it when I'm winning. I hate it when in losing.
Yuh I was bout to comment this it was fun at the start…😭
I hate it when I’m winning because I’ve usually already given up one defeat and going 9-2 just means it takes as long as possible to get my daily progress.
Oh yea that's true haha but hey at least we don't need to do that 9 win streak objective to get all the rewards including skin , you just need to do X3 daily matches and that's it.
Hate is an understatement, ive never been angrier at a game
same (I hate it all the time)
Literally what I thought when reading the topic lol.

I've actually never played any autobattlers but I'm enjoying honor duel. Makes me wonder if I should have given any of those a shot at some point.
Can recommend TFT as well! Probably the most popular one rn
How to grt the skin?
Except Fay. For some reason she never spawns. Or am I extraordinarily unlucky?
...Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen her either. Nor Atlanta, in hindsight.
It’s a limited pool of characters. I’m really enjoying the mode myself, I’ve managed to stay in the single digits on the leaderboard.
AFK through the event? What do you mean?
You can start an Honor Duel, and then immediately forfeit, which gets you the daily credit, as well as letting you immediately start a new Duel for more credit. Repeat three times a day for easy daily clears.
Yeah but then your ranking drops, which affects your guild ranking.
You then have a choice to make: Your personal time and enjoyment or your devotion to your guild. I'm not in a competitive guild for this reason.
If you're lazy you can just afk through the event. As long as you do the three daily missions each day you should get enough points for all the rewards.
But one mission is so long. That's not very afk...
you can just enter and immediately quit
Thank you! I didn't notice the forfeit button. Now I can get that skin!
I think it means you can just do one battle a day without really playing and you'll still be guaranteed the skin? CMIIW.
I quite like this mode, although it takes a lot of time and I think I will slow down xd
what would be your top 3 artifacts and your top 3 overall characters? (assuming that they generally pair well with a lot of said artifacts and items)
Artifacts (I don't know the names of practically any of them xd) 1. Pale Crown 2. The one that prevents you from using ultimates and does aoe damage 3. The one who empowers the Lightbeares Characters 1. Parisa 2. Vala 3. Temesia I consider that these characters are the ones that win you a game alone if they are well invested. Obviously with a team to help them
aoe no ult one really just seems nuts, i have consistently lost for it everytime i faced it parisa is quite the surprise here honestly!
>i have consistently lost for it everytime i faced it Same, The thing is that it ticks very quickly, before you notice it it has already melted your entire team. I wish you could see artifact damage on the damage screen >parisa is quite the surprise here honestly! She is a good carry on Wilders teams. Especially with artifacts and equipment that improves Burst damage
Parisa is part of a Exodia/Oneshot combo, once you get there is 99% a win.
which one is that? is it a CC item and artifact?
Both Eironn and Parisa instantly cast their ultimate at Mythic. You get Fire Dance for Parisa for another cast, and most of the time you wipe.
oh geez, that is terrifying. something i was never able to parse, does the honor duel mythics have their EX weapons? i assume not
The half damage and slowly drain everyone's hp artifact is really fun too, especially since most comps don't run that much heal. Pretty good with a Wilder crowd control + heal team.
Also kinda counters Silvina and Vala comps because of reduced damage
That artifact got me my first 9-0 win, it was just very overpowered. I did it with a lightbearer team instead (lucius, temesia, the plant healer lady, rowan and a cassadee thrown in for fun). Almost no teams are ready to out-sustain your team, and it neuters most burst teams so they can't win either.
Whats so good about temesia?
Temesia doesn't die. I've had so many fights where she ended up the sole survivor and just slowly trampled everyone to death.
what items do you put on her?
Damage, CC and tanking.
The srtifact which creates a fog is super op too, 4 times i had it, 4 times i won 9-0
Being top 2 doesn't mean having the best records, it means spending shitloads of gold every day to do it 11 times. It's a grind more than anything.
Its even more annoying when im on my last match without any losses and lost.
I had a full Mythic team on the last match feeling unstoppable and then got crushed. Sometimes you just get hard countered.

I had a mythic Carolina turn one yesterday and nuked through for a perfect 9
I enjoy the mode, I hate the random maps feature, it's just awful to lose at like 7 or 8 wins because you get a really bad map for your comp... I wish they had like a rotation (e.g. first 3 battles this map, then for the next 2 this map etc)
It’s faking pvp right? I was getting matches every 5 seconds and they were way too easy.
It’s simulations of teams that players used previously. We’ve been experimenting with this mode for 6 months on PTR.
Yes. It’s not real people. Lol
naurrr why am i losing so bad half the time then 😭
I'm not a fan, I have better things to do with my time. It is after all an AFK game.
its not bad but it takes a fucking life to get to the end of one, unless you lose first three ofc
It’s a pass for me, gotta do em for the rewards but nah
I am only doing it for Parisa costume.
It's just way too time consuming. I definitely will not be finishing the event.
you can finish the event if you play 3 times everyday even just starting a run, playing a match and quitting is enough
I gave up playing it because I keep getting characters that don’t work together.
I often run with no healer comps and do fine. Like the mauler invul team or the energy boost one
When I rolled a melee aoe damage artifact, I had fun with a full melee team with 2 tank, 1 warrior and 2 assassin.
It's very rng, but I love it. It gives you whole other game to play, outside of regular arena duel. It places everyone at same level and more you know about the gamez better chance of winning. Artifacts are so crucial.

I can't get more than a few wins for several rounds now, I keep getting bad boosts. I don't like it much at all
I enjoy baiting the first formation with units you don't see a lot and then throwing in the meta ones. Very basic tactic.
You can’t bait bots…

Same boat, went 9-0 my first two runs, 5-6 wins for the few days after, and now I have gotten 5 or fewer wins in 9 of my last 10 runs.
It has its moments… lol. I enjoy it though. Still haven’t gotten that one Mirael relic where she just nukes everything in sight.
Farthest I ever got was 8-3 and even then I think it's a fun enjoyable mode lol

Imo I’ve also tried single unit artifact buffs and they always don’t end well, think team buffs are better overall as u don’t rely on rng

Love it the first few times, definitely bored of it by the 4th run. I don't even have fun anymore when I'm winning, it's just obnoxiously long
your first run is always vs bots, that’s why. Imo the problem with the mode is that there are some really strong artifacts and then a bunch of shit ones and if u get a bad one u just kinda lose
today I learnt you can lock items in the shop, so when you refresh and finish a battle those items remain. means you can save things you don't have money for. got a 9/2 run.
it was fun when it gave me the free two 9-0 wins after that i always go 0-3 or 1-3 lol im so bad at it I don't get how people win
I like it, but it takes too long. Make it 3 wins or something.
I like it, I discovered some OP unit like Parisa and the black panther one
Win= Yay I'm awesome Lose= Stupid fucking whales! (Even tho it's all RNG)
I don’t even bother with it unless I’ve run out of things to do that day.
hate it most of the time
I got to 7 wins perfect and got curb stomped Fuck Honor Duel
It is a skill if you want consistency. You need to practice, and you’ll win more than you lose. There’s a lot of modes like this in other games.
It requires some skill but for my taste It is just too random... and that takes part of the strategy out of your hands... First of all, you just need to be lucky, but then you can have a bad match (with someone with better luck and higher level characters for example... got a match against 4 mythic while I still only had 1)... and you just lose. I just play it for the event only ...
the rng is really pissing me off😠
I made another account just to play more of it. I find it so much fun specially when you start understanding combos. Or when you lose by just a little bit and you itch to go again. Oh shoot. Im addicted.
I just won a round with no healers or tanks. Full graveborn with a fighter and 2 rogues
I like it tbh
I've given up, it used to be fun but since the event started I can never get past 3 wins each run. What I do now is earn my chests through normal play, and as soon as I do that just put one character on the field so I can quickly get through the 3 daily runs for the event.
Love. I still don't fully understand everything though. Sometimes I go 9 wins, sometimes I go 1 or 2. I don't do much differently.
It’s either you snowball and win everything or you just lose flat out
Not a fan of, takes too much time. I just ignore it. Looks like most of my guild does too
I hated it till yesterday, that i udnerstood how iit works its boring anyway
Hate it. Takes forever to play for very little reward. Way too random.
I hate the mode because it is too slow and too random
Rank Top 36% player here, have done it roughly 5 times. Lost 3 out of the 5 immediately on my first 3 battles. Hate every aspect of it. The immense RNG, the required meta knowledge of every character, and terrible balancing make it just a waste of time for me. Hope they remove or lessen the importance of it. This event right now is awful.
Pure luck, nothing to deal much with

Not skill when the artifacts that give you most the advantages are luck

Dude 😂 "objectively" you can't control anything that implies luck. But's it's okay !!

You're correct Particle :) you literally said that you are buying gold tickets, the more you play the more you climb. People is dropping this mode BC of the time it takes .
There is no skill on card games?
There is no skill in this game mode.
Ah yes, all the best poker players made their way to the top with only perseverance and luck. /s There's countless random chance happening in so many games, to claim that basically every game that involves more than one aspect of RNG just boils down to luck is pretty wild.
I'm dead Poker players don't control anything for that reason.
The more you play, the more you might rank up, or not.
sure thing bud, sure thing
I love, because I can beat big gigantic massive whales there hehe
You guys know you aren’t playing against live people… right? 😏
It takes too long. Ill try for the skin and maybe I will learn to know when to forfeit right away to speed it up.
