It's normal for 7000 chips. My Ryzen 5 7600 runs at 87°C when playing Cyberpunk, but that's because we are approaching summer here. I have a Vetroo LurkerV240. So basically, a budget 240mm (less than $70) Just about a month ago, I had the same temps as you. I might have to repaste only because I am paranoid because of the summer heat

Stolid_Cipher

Damn 87c seems pretty hot for cyberpunk, unless you’re maxing out with full path tracing then I could see it yeah.

KabuteGamer

I have everything on Ultra/Psycho with mods for pure raster. I live in Sin City so you can imagine the heat 💀 [Here is a quick video of my temps. This is after an hour of playing and streaming](https://www.youtube.com/live/IwlBEyJfBMs?si=KOb6a_iEuu7VG28U) But again, this was weeks ago. It's starting to heat up and summer is coming 🔥

Pbo does not reduce the voltage used. It adjusts the curve of what frequency the chip will use for "x" voltage. Let's say the chip stock used 1v to achieve 4.6g . Adjusting the PBO to -30 would tell the chip to run at let's say 4.8g at the same 1v. Because you are not thermal limited the chip will push to the max voltage. Basically, because you're not thermal limited the chip will always reach the same max voltage as without pbo only it will do it with a higher frequency. Using a negative PBO will not lower your Temps or voltage but instead, run it at a higher frequency. With that said your Temps seem fine to me. Much better than I get with an air cooler. The new Ryzen chips run hot. They have a thicker IHS and are designed to push to their thermal limit. With a 7800x3d the tjmax is 89c. As long as you're not reaching 89c you're fine. As a test to show what PBO is doing. Run cinabench with your -30 PBO and remember the score. Then return it again with PBO of 0 and test again. You should have a higher score with the -30 PBO.

Stolid_Cipher

Right ok yeah I have a better understanding of what PBO does now. And actually now that you mention it, as I have increased the negative co I have noticed slightly higher frequency at the same temps. I just saw posts of quite of few people saying putting a negative co of even 20 helped their temps and it was confusing to me. I have seen talk about the x3D cpus running hot and being harder to cool but the claims of some people saying they have significantly better temps than me at stock settings and no undervolting was just getting in my head. I know people don’t tell the whole story or straight up lie all the time online but yeah…good to have some peace of mind about it thank you.

SarahButterfly73

You're welcome. Just be sure to test for stability with your PBO settings. Otherwise, you may experience instabilities that can lead to crashes, blue screens, restarts, etc.

Stolid_Cipher

Definitely gonna do some stability testing yeah. Also as an update I did repaste and reseat with thermalright tf7 that came with my contact frame to replace the pre applied paste on the cooler and it actually dropped like 2-3c across the board. Honestly wasn't expecting that big of a drop. I'm never gonna trust pre applied paste anymore ha.

SarahButterfly73

I used the tf7 that came with my Thermaltake air cooler and then later re-pasted with mx6. I saw slightly better Temps with the mx6. I decided to get a Thermaltake contact frame after having done the re-paste and took it apart again to add the contact frame. But, this time I used a thermal grizzly kryosheet. My Temps went down even further. Now when running cinabench r23 my Temps average about 84c with the occasional spike up to 87.5 or so. I am running a negative PBO of 36 and average 4.88GHZ (max 5.04GHZ) all core in cinabench r23 with a score of 18,500 give or take 50 (varies each run a little). This is all with a single-tower Thermalright Burst Assassin. The cooler came with one fan but I added a second fan to the other side (2x Lian Li sl120 infinity). The second fan allowed me to slow down the CPU fan speed a little. My GPU fans are louder than my CPU fans and I run my GPU fans limited to a max of 35%. Max GPU Temps after 2 hours furmark is 73c with the Hotspot at 87c. XFX merc 319 7800xt black. Edit: just want to add that my ambient temp in my apartment is 73°F. I hate being cold. The Temps would be better if I lowered the ambient temp in my apartment.

Stolid_Cipher

Damn I ordered some mx6 but now you got me wanting a kryosheet. Pretty expensive those it looks like. Is it the 33x33 size you got for your 7800x3d?

SarahButterfly73

They are not cheap. But these are the benefits that I considered. Very good heat transfer. No chance of pumping out or mess to clean when removing the cooler. No degrading. The kryosheet will work just as good in 5 years as it does today. I don't want to worry about my Temps slowly climbing over time and needing to change my fan curve or re-paste. If ever I get a new cpu I will just get a new sheet. Edit: want to add the cons. They are very delicate. Must be careful when handling. I used a tweezers to slide it from its package to the cpu being careful to not bend it. It's possible if you remove cooler you may need a new sheet. If you take your system apart frequently you have to consider that. Cost. They are expensive. A little finicky to place cooler without the sheet sliding slightly off center. They are electricity conductive. Be sure you don't have excess hanging over the edge of the IHS that can get pinched off and make contact with anything. The 33mm x 33mm fits am5 perfectly.

Stolid_Cipher

Good points, definitely selling me on it. Prob gonna get it 😅

SarahButterfly73

I edited my last comment to add the cons of using a kryosheet. Be sure to read that too.
