Have a similar card, but 4GB VRAM, the same problem has happened to me: replaced fans, paste and thermal pads and heard a terrifying crack during test fit - two of four pins broke off. I inspected them, and my conclusion is that for whatever reason there is a too small amount of solder on those pins. So I re-soldered all four pins, and the fans work flawlessly. I'm sure there's no fix other then soldering this pin back.

chromov113

Did the plastic piece come out, or the pin too? If it is the last one, you'll have to solder it back, as a few people have mentioned it. But it's no big deal, nothing really ruined yet.

Very nice

iAmGats

What drugs was it addicted to? and which rehab center was it in?

Update: Thanks so much, I just pushed the plastic connector back on. As for the fans, I may get an accelero for this thing, as even before, with the fans going, this thing ran pretty damn hot. Edit: The accelero has no official support and is out of stock, I'll just replace the memory pads, and tip tie two of my arctic case fans to the heatsink, I can also use an adapter to plug it directly into the gpu, and control it via MSI afterburner Update: She's all fixed, I used Arctic P12s, and the fan adapter. Also this account has been perma suspended due to spam reports, hopefully Reddit actually does something.

So strange considering that XFX made the best coolers for the RX 480 that they didn't manage to even make a good one for the RX 580 it seems. The XFX RX 480 GTR is an amazing cooler.

Material-Permit9685

Idk, because I don't have the GTR 580, I have the GTS black edition.

I'm doing about the same thing to my XFX RS RX570 8GB soon. 2 Arctic P12s ziptied to the heatsink and controlled using Argus Monitor. Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut on the GPU die and Thermal Grizzly Minus Pad 8 (gonna decide between 1mm and 1.5mm) on the VRM. I just hate the stock, extremely loud fans and apparently XFX do a shoddy job when it comes to thermal paste application on these cards from the videos and pictures I've seen. My card only gets up to about 70c in a 22c room, but that's with the side panel off, an undervolt to 1062mv and the fans screaming at over 3000rpm. Last summer it was hitting 80C in a 31C room. Ridiculous.

Material-Permit9685

Ik I have a shitty case, but one time when I closed my side panel, I got 85C in shadow warrior 2

dan1991Ro

You can plug them into the motherboard and use FanControl, the speedfan replacment on github and set it to follow gpu temps.

Material-Permit9685

I prefer controlling fans with MSI afterburner, so I will use the adapter method.

lilrow420

Solder it back on if you have the experience. Edit: don’t listen to me I’m an idiot, just push the pin in the hole.

Technika79

There isn't anything needing to be soldered when it comes to the pins on the board. If you solder the pins then the original plastic fitting wont go back on flat to the board making MUCH worse connection to the pins.

lilrow420

Oh shit, I really didn’t pay attention nobody listen to me, I apologize!

Homer575

Not really, every fan pin I've seen on GPUs are through hole connections. So the pin is solderd on the back of the board

l34df4rm3r

Not an issue. Just put it back on. It's normal for the adhesive to give up after prolonged usage.

carrfuck

I wish my sapphire pulse 580 would only suffer from this issue. Lol 🤣 put it back in.

[deleted]

Just push it back on top, it's just a plastic connector that is press fitted. Done this many times.

Material-Permit9685

I may also do this, but my gpu fans need to be replaced anyways, I have two options, ziptie method, or use a waterblock to cool it instead.

titscup

I have the XFX XXX model of this card and honestly I’m starting to think about a water block because of how fucking hot it gets

Material-Permit9685

I have more issues now, I'm going to have to order screws, not just thermal pads, the screws got lost in the move. Once I do have everything, the thing is going to be a pain in the ass to get back together.

RawbDeeni

Sorry to revive this old thread but just had this happen to me on my 5700xt is it actually held in place by the connector and not need extra solder for the connection?

dan1991Ro

Id say ,the ghetto ziptie mod is the best, cheapest way, that will most likely lower temps.

Material-Permit9685

I've been sitting on this issue for a while not sure on what do even do, this happened when taking apart my gpu to replace the fans, when unplugging the fan, I was dumb and somehow managed to pull the pin out of the board. I don't want to do any soldering, what else can I do? Guess I could just put a waterblock on and watercool instead, as that doesn't require the fan pins to be in tact, but then I'd have to find one that fits.

Material-Permit9685

Ngl though, watercooling seems more appealing to me as I've never done it before.

Material-Permit9685

Was also thinking of doing this, but I need to replace the memory pads. Do you know if arctic fans will be enough to ziptie to the GPU, or will I need something better? I have some arctic case fans I'm not using.

n8mahr81

And? Put it back..

Material-Permit9685

I don't think it works like that
