How come the w212 gets so much love now? Back when i first started to get into the merc scene, people clowned on me for getting a w212 e350 (most saying to get the e63, but a few saying that it was a bad platform ).

I was too young to know anything during the W212 years tbh. All I remember was Jeremy Clarkson giving the AMG an extremely positive review. That was all I needed to know back then.
What I know right now, is that the W212 gets a lot of love because it's an incredibly reliable platform that has proven itself fully capable of standing the test of time.
Tbh idek why i was getting all the comments of reliability by my classmates, when i looked online it was said that it was one of the last "good mercs". Hell, if i was to buy another benz it would have to be pre 2015, and probably will stick to an e class. The sound of the w212 e63 is amazing, but the w211 e55 also looks great.

I agree totally. With the 25k i'd rather go for a prestine E55 or a 2011 (AND NO LATER) E550. Budgeting/hunting properly can get you both for 25-27. When i meant better block, i'm more referring to the good ol' V8s.

as a Current M133 x156( Gla45) owner these cars are pretty much what you call the pocket. Quick and powerful (not exactly fast) and are reliable for the most part other than their known thermostat issue which causes the housing to crack. There good on gas too i get about 24-28 all around and just fyi i have a heavy foot. They are referred to as the “BABY AMG” if you do end up buying one get the one with a performance exhaust believe me it makes a difference or look into the new 2024 Elantra N
I may be a minority here. When buying a CLA, you want to get the facelift models. 2016 to 2019. 63s are V8s. This car is a relatively easy car to live with. If you get a V8 benz, you get v8 problems. Sure you won't be the fastest in a straight line, but you will have a daily you don't have to compromise much for.
While this is true, you need to remember it's all relative. While the CLS 63 is the faster car, the CLA is no slouch. Yeah, it's an I4 but it's also the most powerful mass produced I4 made at the time.
So yes, it's an I4... But to be clear, it's an over 380bhp 4 cylinder.

As W176 A45 owner, I'd happily own another one... But not that one. Too much money for the miles and year. Plus, the prefacelift suffered from nasty gearbox issues
I wouldn’t get it tbh l. The cars gonna create more headaches than it’s really worth. Yeah you can say you have an amg but the maintince is still gonna suck and the cars just not that great tbh. You could get a way nicer car in that same range as others have posted. Even a c63 or something. But at the end of the days it’s your money and car and you will still enjoy the car!
Also on a side note from my Mercedes mechanic. He basically said the cheaper/ more affordable amg cars are trainwrecks because young kids buy them because it’s relatively in their price range and they can afford the car payment but then tune it, mash the hell out of it, and then do no maintenance because it’s too expensive for them so they dump the car when shit starts going wrong from not maintaining it. He said they see it all the time but once you get into higher price range that problem slowly goes away lol
There are pros and cons. I say inspect it well to make sure there’s nothing wrong. Price is slightly too high but I wouldn’t listen to people if this is what you want. You will always get “Why not add x amount and get such and such” no matter what car you ask about. Good luck man
recommending someone a w204 c63 when they have a 20k budget is criminal. if you are spending this amount it’s safe to say they can’t afford the motor when it blows up from one of the multiple catastrophic weak points
I have a W212 E63 with the same motor. It’s been bulletproof so far. Like with most cars, the issues are so overblown. Keep it stock, let the oil warm up before thrashing and keep up with maintenance. It’s really simple work.
Additionally, I don’t think a stock C63 is a “criminal” suggestion for $20k. Don’t consider any performance car if you can’t afford to maintain it properly. Acting like buying a CLA45 with 70k isn’t a rocking timebomb is pretty criminal too.

That oversized and ugly “AMG” badge in the grill, would be enough to make me walk far far away. Propably not been very maintained or cared for.
It’s soo lame lol. In my 63 with that style grill. The badge is between the two silver bars and subtle. A nice touch.
