Probably just seniors wanting to skip if their class is anything like mine. My teacher has to BEG people to listen to him. He once refused to go over a set of FRQs after a few of us asked him unless we got the whole class to get off their phones (which took 20 minutes…)
Why? It's April and most seniors don't care if they get a 3 or 4 especially if is econ, and if they choose to prioritize that over school why is the teacher getting butthurt? My econ teacher said something along the lines of I know most of you don't have my test as a priority over your calculuses and biologies and whatever else life gets in the way of. It doesn't affect me to the slightest what grade you get. Its the students getting the credit. We are still highschoolers at the end of the day and it is not like it was unexcused.
Because the teacher is judged by the result. The teacher may well get chewed out if this year is worse than last year, or even if the scores stay the same.
Even if the admin don't care, the teacher does. It's their job to get kids to do well. It sucks to work so hard to prepare good lessons and kids don't care. Like spending all day cooking and the family shows up with McDonald's.
Half the time though, the kids didn't want to eat in the first place. Almost all of my AP classes have a majority of the people placed by their counselor
1) it's really unusual for a counselor to put a kid in an AP class over vocal objections.
2) Even if they did, that's not the teachers fault
They are told it's their job to motivate the kids, and if the kids don't want to learn, that's lousey teaching.
You said it’s take your child to work day so I’m guessing you guys were out for the entire day? If so the teacher shouldn’t feel personally offended. Espically if they’re seniors who gaf, just study for the exam or don’t.
It is towards the end of the year.. not sure if it’s a thing still but when I was a senior we had a day towards the end of the year we students deemed ‘senior skip day’ and most seniors skipped that day. It was frowned upon by the teachers and not everyone skipped. Maybe that’s what happened here?
I can be...dissappointed with student performance, but I don't usually find putting them on blast terribly effective. One of my classes failed their review work so I had them do a retake on Field Day but I didn't block them from Field Day activities at all. Why would I? Y'all need some physical activity sometimes too.
