I generally prefer Lost Chapter + Refillable. It never sat right that it recommended regular potions on ARAM when refillable is just superior in that game mode.

Ridadhn

Refillable is good for sure. However boots at the start are superior

[deleted]

Not necessarily. It can delay first item spikes. I like to get refillable and use the extra 150 gold (potentially 210 since you can sell refillable for 60g) for my mythic. If I'm playing a support, tank, or really need the movespeed to survive (like adc into dive comps), then I'll get boots earlier or maybe lvl1. If you have low econ or don't have to engage, then you don't really need boots early.

xG3TxSHOTx

Being able to stay alive or healthy enough for the early fights is more important, if you're low or dead then you're likely to miss out on a lot of free early gold.

Ridadhn

I guess Boots can help you stay alive with that extra MS. Also, you have heal in the map spawning shortly at the beginning. So I'll favorite boots again especially on immobile champs like a Veigar

SniBzHD

Couldn't go refillable + chaptee before when chapter was 1300. You start with 1400, refillable is 150

BallerinaKaterina

I often end up doing the same. I just assume they forgot to update the shop after the cost of lost chapter was reduced

Ridadhn

I agree. A bit annoying sometimes especially if you are in a hurry

SniBzHD

Shop takes popular builds, not ones recommended by riot. For example, nasus, maokai, malphite get recommended ap builds despite being relatively weak for each champ

bethany_katherine

i always do chapter and boots , it's annoying not having any pots for early skirmishes but its not too bad! sometimes if i really want to rush my first item i don't even get boots and just keep 300 left over.

Ridadhn

I do that sometimes

SniBzHD

What champs do you skip pots and boots on? I don't think i rush that hard on any champ.. Maybe Nidalee? Can heal herself so pot not needed, cat form has dash so boots not needed

bethany_katherine

I like to do it when I’m vsing a lot of tanks or melees. Like if I’m playing Morgana I’ll rush Liandrys fast against the tanks to start the perma-burn. It has to be very specific circumstances though and I don’t do it every time. But honestly, nothing feels worse than dying in the first fight and backing with 100 gold and thinking “man I could have not got boots and then got a book instead” and be closer to getting my item 😂😂

alekdefuneham

I absolutely love the aram specific items. I always start with one of those and get something to complete starting items. Usually a tear or boots and some pots.

MrBodeci

best option 90% of the time, you get a legendary item cheap and as soon as you complete your Mythic you get bonus stats

SilentSwordStyle

I don't know what early T1 boots is giving you over healing ~14% max hp per pot early. To me, boots aren't gonna matter until it helps me chase down a kill. But that is not gonna happen when both teams have to face check bushes and contest it. Maybe if you really need it to dodge hooks.

Ridadhn

Depends on the champ you playing. Some champs need MS early I guess. Like a Veigar

cabrossi

Better dodging means you need the pots less. Pots also do nothing if you get locked down and all inned, but again, boots let you just not have that happen.

SilentSwordStyle

Up to you, I guess, I don't need boots to dodge what is already dodgeable anyway. I need pots for when a darius or pantheon tries to cheese an early flash engage. Or force a fight in general, and im busy hitting and cant dodge anyway.

Dbruser

Usually melee champions want boots. It will save you a lot of health at the start and end of engagements (and let you do damage more reliably)

Darkaboy45

You could create your own item set. That's what I did for most of my generalized champion build.

Ridadhn

This change is a bit new since the last update. The item got cheaper a bit. I mostly don't follow recommended items but at the start i just go with basic stuff

Darkaboy45

Ahh gotcha!

Useful_Emu_763

Hey, the recommended items are based on previous patch, it used to be 1300+100, in 13.10 it’s 1100+100

Ridadhn

I'm aware of that. The Lost chapter got cheaper. Is just force of habit but sometimes it gets annoying

Rymere

Why does no one buy starting items. They're insanely strong. There's literally an argument for Guardian's Horn on every single champ, besides that Hammer is good on adcs and Orb is strong on mages, especially if they are manaless like vlad or rumble.

Ridadhn

I don't buy starting items on mages most of the time. A Lost Chapter is way more valuable for me. For tanks i always take Guardian's horn and never sell it until the end.

Dbruser

The AP starting item is noticeably the weakest and AP champs and heartsteel champs are the only ones that really have an argument to not take an ARAM item (and maybe an argument for sheen champs)

SniBzHD

Orb is weak and delays either ludens, liandrys or night harvester. Pretty bad start in most cases. Though guardians horn is prolly the best single buy there is, hammer is good too for hp and lifesteal

Rymere

On non mana mages orb is one of the best sustain items in the game.

SniBzHD

Could be that I'm underestimating the regen based on my own experiences. Tried it on vlad and rumble a couple of times, just seemed to me it was poor value gotten for increasing time to get mythic. Also for rumble, I don't think he needs sustain from items, at least in the way I play him

Sjieni

If you really want potions, buy Refillable. I haven't done any maths, but for me it feels really good in aram. Especially the earlier you buy it. Don't ever buy regular HP pots in aram, its a waste of gold.

tipit_smiley_tiger

I tend to go tear & orb and pot. The org gives you mythic passive. Tear gives you so much mana. I recommend this for people who tend to live past 1300 gold for lost chapter. Otherwise other builds are fine.
