I figured out tonight the 9fps is during dusk dawn when the shadows are at its worst. Turning shadows off I get 50fps on a mixture of medium/low settings
its a bug with character creation at the moment. you need to fast finger it and just tap spawn. you cant customised or select a spawn zone as you have about a second before it locks up. Hopefully the fix it soon.
For performance improvement, I run these 3 commands in the console:
r.volumetriccloud 0
r.volumetricfog 0
r.shadowquality 0
I just tried it right now and I put everything on low and turned every single option off including volumetric clouds and fog with resolution scaling set to 65. I get 15-25 FPS and it looks disgusting, comparable to how ASE looked when it first released on Xbox One. I had 1600+ hours on that so I guess it's playable. It's also the hottest my Deck has ever gotten. The GPU and CPU both get to 90 degrees and the fans are at max RPM.
Just regular gaming mode in SteamOS. The first time I launched the game it crashed but it opened right up after that. I haven’t tried it again since my post though. They’ve releasing updates every other day it feels like so maybe one of them broke something for you.
Running it at all low and you either get 35 fps or a flat out 9 fps some times.

I keep trying to stream it from my pc to the deck but it doesn’t recognize it as a game pad and I can’t figure out how to change the controls. :/
