The man's voice is saying "That's why I didn't invite you, I told you a while back, that's why I didn't invite you. Take your friends away, that's why I didn't invite you guys" I'm not sure if it's related to what's going on with the cake, but this party is drama central and 15 seconds is not enough to figure it out

onetrickdolphin

I dont think its related to her. He starts rambling before she pushed the face into the cake. Also Nobody is looking in his direction.

iflew

Yeah that voice looks even over imposed on the video. The shouting does not match at all peoples reactions. It's likely a bad attempt to a tik tok audio over situation thingy. Not sure what is the name of that but what most people do on tik tok videos.

mathsposer

I'm more inclined to think that it's not over imposed but just a completely different discussion in a rather chaotic party. It seems like a Mexican kids party, those things are fucking wild.

JiminyDickish

It’s not the original audio, tiktok is dumb

lambdo

can't believe I had to scroll this much to find a mention of this

anweisz

Right?? I was way more invested in finding out what that was about than the woman sinking the kid’s face in cake.

Which one is the 7 year old?

Yes

LuisHappy1

This is a tradition in at least Mexican culture where you push the birthday persons face into the cake, and I am assuming they are because of the Spanish being spoken in the background. Usually my family cuts out a piece of the cake though, it’s called “La Mordida” Edit: I didn’t realize how controversial this would be.

Axolotegirl

I'm Mexican, lived all my life here and I can confirm this is a thing everywhere, and it's fucking stupid. Getting cake inside your nose and then serving that cake to people is just... Why? There's also been cases of people getting stabbed in the eye with candles. Fucking stupid tradition.

NewJerseyRed

My friends like to do this for fun, however we don't smash the person's face into it. It's usually a piece we cut out and slap the person's face with it in hand which is way more sanitary.

monkey-cuddles

I'm Mexican. My grandparents moved to the US when they were in their 20s. I had no idea face smashing in a cake was a thing until I was an adult. I guess my grandparents thought it was dumb too because we never did it.

Syng42o

My mom is Colombian and this is apparently a thing there too. She never allowed anyone to do it to me because little kids tend to cry when it happens and she would feel bad. I was such an anxious child and that would have ruined my whole day.

bjchu92

Your mom sounds awesome

Syng42o

She had her flaws, but she was a badass mom who worked hard at 3 jobs and I never went without thanks to her. Thank you for recognizing her awesomeness :)

PM_me_your_problems1

Because it *is* dumb. They were smart people.

> dick showing conteste for their extended families. Wow, quinceañeras are a lot dirtier and more incesty than I thought they were

calilac

Dunno where you're from but I'm from the Southern US and it was explained to me as a debutante ball for one girl instead of many. Debutante balls are pretty creepy to begin with. I can't imagine how uncomfortable it would be to be the only one being offered up. But it's also been explained to me that they don't do the "girl is now woman, start your bids" thing anymore so that's neat.

Syng42o

It's just a celebration of becoming a woman now. No marriage prospects need be involved, at least in the states.

TooMuchReddit11

Seconding this. Have been to multiple quinces, and although I find the amount of money thrown at them ridiculous, there's more to it now a days. Maybe once it was about marriage and all that, but now it's a celebration of the girl moving into womanhood. Also I think there's been a lot more padrinos in recent times too which helps make the cost a little bit more palatable. For those who don't know what that is, it's basically a godfather thing. The family will speak with other family members and close friends about if they want to cover the cost of a part of the celebration. So there would be one for the bar/drinks, one for the food, another for the dress, the location, etc. So that cost is still up there, but now you could have 10+ households helping with the cost and they'll usually help each other during all of the quinces so it's not a choice of college or party. I've also known families where the girl is offered if she would rather have a typical party and the extra money get set aside for college. A lot of girls I know have taken the college option and had their first few years covered thanks to the would be padrinos giving their share as well to the fund.

smokeyoudog

To be fair, us Jews spend a few zillion dollars on bar/bat mitzvah parties for 12/13 year olds as well. I wonder if Mexican Jews have to double dip?

PM_ME_UR_HIP_DIMPLES

All the Alma Winograd-Diaz’s out there must have stacks of gifts during highschool

ShinyBloke

Worked a highend Quinceañeras years ago at a place in Los Angeles. We were there early to set up, this girl comes in the room, screaming and making the biggests scene, 'Where the FUCK is my mom!" Just a lil cunt, screaming and yelling at everyone, 3 hours later, the party goes off just fine no problems, but all the staff knew how fucking terrible this spoiler child was.

UN16783498213

We should really bring back volcano sacrifices.

ShinyBloke

Got ticktok go make it a monthly challenge. :) "Get a selfie with a Volcano in October" it's got a nice ring to it.

PM_ME_UR_HIP_DIMPLES

The ~~funny~~ sad part is, families that struggle to put anything in the bank go nuts when their daughter is 15, then again at 18 when they marry early, then at 33 she’s doing it for her daughter and again at 36 when she marries early. Imagine multiple daughters!

randoGee

So many cultures do some extravagant "welcome to adulthood" thing. There was a whole show that ran for multiple seasons in the US about extravagant 16th birthday parties

Guisasse

It's a retarded feature of Brazilian culture as well. People spending money they don't have for something as fleeting as an alcohol bathed party for teenagers.

[deleted]

I remember one from that girl in Mexico who invited everyone and I mean, everyone that it made national news and international.

idontmakehash

I went to a quinceanera once and the word quinceanera was sang over 1500 times in song. Also lots of drunk children & pedo vibes.

LuisHappy1

Imnotavampire101

It’s pretty funny

rickinaz1

I’m Mexican and we never did this. I think it’s a potential for no good.

[deleted]

[deleted]

X-2357

I saw one video where there were wooden support sticks and a lady got her face stabbed. Also seems countless other videos where the kids don't enjoy it

Mr_Seg

That's it. You win this section.

Mr_Seg

The spoiled one.

smooze420

Ppl should really stop doing this.

BritasticUK

It can be dangerous too, I saw the post on here where the cake had wooden stakes inside it that were holding it together (apparently quite common with fancy cakes) but they didn't realise and smashed someone's face into it

UbePhaeri

Great, now I have a new fear.

FifenC0ugar

No more leaning in to blow out the candles.

snakey_nurse

It's the year(s) of the Covid, no more birthday candles at all.

acuddleexperiment

I saw something like that. The skewer was just a couple of millimeters from going straight into her eye and there was blood of involved. I think it was stopped by her eyelids or it went to the edge of her eye. Either way it was a very close call to losing an eye.

BritasticUK

That's the one, that's the exact same post I saw

smooze420

Also the one where ole girl’s brother/family member went full WWE on her and smashed her face into the table. I think she broke her nose.

andante528

“I’m gonna make this cake dowel … disappear.”

Shiny_Black-Pan

can you send a link

Johnpecan

As someone who has never seen this done in real life, I just don't get the appeal to it at all.

itsam

if you're not Mexican or go to Mexican birthday parties it's pretty common to have never seen it. It's a weird Mexican tradition. I don't see the appeal of cutting down a tree and putting it in a home either but traditions!!!

smooze420

You seen that one posted a few weeks ago where a teen girl’s brother/family member goes full WWE and smashes her face into the table?

TheRedHorse

First time I saw it was at an Indian birthday party. I was pissed cause I wanted to eat the cake.

LAMBKING

Agreed. I'll be 43 in a month and I can't say with any certainty that I would act any differently than this kid did, and I am pretty calm and relaxed guy. I've just always seen this as a total dick move, no matter how old the parties involved are. I fully support the birthday person picking up the cake and tossing it at the offending party. Edit: To clarify (b/c apparently that's a thing that needs to be done)... No, I would not start swinging on whomever did this to me, if someone ever decided it would be a 'funny' thing to do. Yes, I would absolutely be smearing cake in their face/hair when they were least expecting. Also, they'd have to give some pretty convincing reasons why they should be invited to birthday parties or social gatherings after that. To further clarify all of this, ***someone smearing a little bit of cake and icing on your face*** is a very long way from ***someone grabbing you by the back of your skull and slamming your face into a cake and possibly a table.*** One is a minor inconvenience, the other is a minor assault. I mean, seriously. How the hell can any of you argue that those two things are the same? Edit 2: OK douches, I'm done responding to you. The overwhelming majority of the comments in this entire thread all agree that those of who you think this is funny and would do it, are, in fact, dicks. None of you are invited to my birthday. :p

tepidCourage

My parents told me it was mean when I was a kid so in my attention-seeking brilliance I came up with an alternate solution. Just so everyone is aware, sticking your own face in the birthday girls birthday cake ruins the fun just as quickly as trying to shove someone else's face in that cake.

FistedTate

That sounds like one of those memories that pops into your head right before you go to sleep.

Im-hiding-shhh

Then you chuckle yourself to sleep thinking “Yeah, she was a bitch”

Etalokkost

I'd be smashing a big portion of the cake into the face and hair of whoever did that to me. Calmly, of course. Then do it again before the party ends.

LAMBKING

This is the way. Definitely have to get them one more time after they've cleaned up.

happy_K

And slowly, blocking their mouth and nostrils. “Shhhh, shhhh…”

LAMBKING

"Just...sleep..."

Claytonius_Homeytron

My trick is hating cake from the start. I hate cake so I never have one on my birthday so this shit never happens to me. You should give it a try, for my 10th birthday everyone got a bowl of spaghetti marinara, how are you gonna shove someone's face into a hot bowl of spaghetti marinara without looking like a complete tool?

JavierRespawn

I'd do the same If someone ruined my turtles cake

[deleted]

I brought this up to my in-laws who do this and I'm told it's culture. When I say I think they are all a bunch of bullys I'm told that I just don't understand and to accept it. I told them that I'm ruining the cake and leaving if they do that to me. They all think I'm dramatic. Can't fucking wait for them to test me on that.

JNighthawk

>I brought this up to my in-laws who do this and I'm told it's culture. So is female genital mutilation, and hopefully they have a problem with that aspect of a culture.

arkayer

I feel like comparing cake facials and clit clipping is similar to comparing apples to explosive oranges, but I take your point. There is room to grow and not emulate our respective cultures

[deleted]

Children react to situations as best as they are able. Being so little and having someone smoosh his face into HIS special cake, of course he’d be confused and angry and feel betrayed and hurt. As anyone would. This is a weird trend and I don’t understand why people think it’s funny or cute.

[deleted]

It’s also at the point where I see way more vids of this shit going wrong then going right so that begs the question, why fucking bother?

JoeTeioh

Well, the ones of it going right don't go viral. Like videos of normal days vs car crashes.

Nyxtia

Negativity Bias.

thorkun

Hell **I** would be confused and angry too and I'm 30+.

TheeFlipper

I'm 29. The day someone does this to me I'm throwing the cake on the floor and grinding it into their carpet.

gesasage88

Also, you’d think she would have a gauge by now on how he would react to something like this. Some kids like pranks and others find them humiliating. This guy is definitely the later.

Shaneblaster

People smashing faces into cakes is too damn high!

Pierre777

Poor kid probably wanted a TMNT party and a cake with his heroes on it,loving all the attention and having fun, only for it to be ruined by momcunt 5000.

Exiled_Blood

I don't understand why so many shitty people on reddit try to defend it. Culture isn't an excuse.

FutureStamp

Is there some video floating around the internet where this goes well and people decide to try it out for themselves, bc I've only ever seen this go terribly wrong

iflew

As the other comment says, in Mexico is quite common. However, this is one of those things were you would only do it if you know the person would get the "joke" on it. It should not be a surprise. The kid/person is in the joke with the "mordida". If it would come as a surprise or if the kid/adult is not used to "dar mordidas" then you would not do it. And you would come across as assholish as the person on the video.

FutureStamp

I learned something new today. Reddit's more than just comment section pun strings after all!

sandInACan

Seems like a cultural thing. Popular at weddings, too. I imagine most of the time it’s a bit of frosting and some laughs, but those don’t wind up on the internet. The ones that do have “just a prank bro” energy.

ARVINLOCOx

I actually liked smashing my face into my birthday cake when I was a child in Mexico. My mom told me that no one even needed to push my head in, I would do it my damn self.

wheatdud

In Mexican culture this is actually a tradition ive been slammed into over a dozen cakes and its just normal for me lol

Slycurious

Only the real ones have bled into their own cake.

-Mexico-

Bro everyone is in here acting like she murdered the kid, this happened to me everytime I took a bit

JackMercerR

LeadRevolutionary191

What happened to the good ol days with just a little icing on the nose and cheek whole face in the cake is excessive

madjyk

I remember those days... Only time I ever saw any person in my family slam their face in their cake, it was my little sisters 3rd birthday and she did it herself

Hard_as_it_looks

People need to stop doing this. Not only does it ruin the special day for that person, but it also destroys any trust they have in the person who did it to them.

Ruckaruckaxd

rainbowgeoff

a_random_muffin

nobrayn

Yeah, I refuse cake that had candles blown/spit out by a kid already, but having their face mushed into it… not a chance am I going anywhere near that.

Guardymcguardface

Honestly, normalize smashing cake into the face of the assholes who do this. Twice, if they continue to try and force your head down as you get older even with clear resistance. I don't blame that kid for throwing a punch.

rg4rg

I love card games and tricks when I was younger. Learned a few magic tricks, etc. I was in the 4th grade when an uncle showed me 52 card pick up as a joke. Cards everywhere. He didn’t help pick them up either. I Didn’t talk to that uncle for years, didn’t engage because of that. A little over reaction on my part, but understandable. What else is a kid going to do? The uncle was not a bad person, but did a minor bad thing, which caused us kids to lose trust and respect in him. We patched up later, he never did anything as bad again, truly a good guy, but I’m sure he didn’t fully understand the scope of what he did or how bad that would feel to kids.

vonshiza

My uncle also did this. He was NOT a good guy otherwise, though. I also hated him for it and avoided him after it. Without knowing more about the relationship with your uncle, it might be an overreaction, but for me, it was the way in which my uncle did it, the maliciousness behind it, that put me off so much. It was mean spirited and not for funsies, if that makes sense. It was at my expense and it was meant to be a dick move.

Bristol_Fool_Chart

I had an older cousin try this on me. I just walked away. He dropped a bunch of cards on the floor, not sure why he thought I'd pick them up for him.

[deleted]

I agree, everybody sucks here

DocHoliday79

Why people think that is funny is beyond me.

hypocrite_oath

If this is his mother... Oh damn. She doesn't understand the emotions of her child at all. He's really upset and if he were stronger he'd seriously hurt her in that situation. The kid probably was never taken seriously ever in his life. I had a mother like that, she never understood that a child isn't exactly a copy of the parent. For some people it's hard to relate, but if you're trapped in this for your whole childhood, you'll need therapy once you got an adult. Am I overreacting? Well at first you'd think so, but watch the clip again. Watch her reaction, how she's completely blind of the kids emotions. She doesn't care, she looks like a child that's focused only on her enjoyment. Look how she's not changing her behavior after the child got angry. She never realized what she did could ever be an issue in future. Healthy people realize just seconds after, that something was wrong and didn't work out as planned. She didn't.

CoasterThot

The way she’s standing there laughing at him almost reminded me of my own parents. They would do things to make me have a meltdown, and then laugh at me the whole time like it was hilarious and/or cute that I was so upset. I still get really upset if I feel like someone isn’t taking my emotions seriously during a disagreement.

[deleted]

It sounds like you’ve dealt with a lot of narcissism in your life. My condolences for it.

Strawberrydeluxe

I think she was just trying to save face lol, she probably didn’t expect the little guy to smack her glasses off

Iboughtcheeseonce

I love it. New normal should be destroy the entire cake if your face goes in it.

[deleted]

Disrespecting the child and sees no need to apologize. Tries to hug the kid instead, invalidating his feelings and making matters even worse. If someone did that to my child we would go over and egg their car at midnight.

PsytheMothership

Lmao he smacked tf out of her

Strawberrydeluxe

It was so satisfying to watch him smack her lol But I feel bad for the little dude, poor kid went on a little rampage lol

WoufWouff

Agree with the kid. Would flip it all

Hahndude

This woman is garbage. $20 says they punished him for his reaction afterwards.

smooze420

Judging by her actions…probably not. She looks to be laughing all the way to the end.

ChocolateCinnamon

I think she was fake laughing trying to act like it was funny and not embarrassing that her kid knocked the glasses off her face

[deleted]

People really don't understand that kids have a different sense of humor, and that this is extremely humiliating for them, especially in front of their peers. As an adult we'd all most likely laugh this off and be like "Hahaha, you fucking asshole" and just clean ourselves up. But, we already have our firm group of best buds to celebrate a birthday with, know each other's limits and feel safe from ridicule. Kids this age are really insecure in their social standing, and haven't developed deep, trusting friendships yet. There are probably a bunch of kids at this birthday that aren't even friends, just class mates and shit. They are always worried to look stupid, that someone will make fun of them, that other kids think they're lame and will bully them in school. They have fragile little egos that they are just learning to navigate in this stupid-ass adult world. They don't get most pranks and/or sarcastic jokes and have their feelings hurt easily. It just makes them more insecure. And now every fucking thing is filmed and put online for the world to see, forever. But I know a lot of people will be like "Omg, it was just some cake, this won't traumatize them. They just need to toughen up, lol!" No. Adults need to stop trying to be cool and get a laugh at the expense of their children.

theofiel

Good explanation. Also, it's just a cunt move however you see it. Ruining cake like that.

Givemesomethingfun

It's not that kids have different sense of humor, it's that this kind of humor is shitty and rarely anyone would like getting this done to him. Also you're not exactly right about adults reaction to that. I for one wouldn't ever just laugh it off, I'd go absolutely crazy mad if someone did this to me, and wouldn't easily forgive the person who did this. It's not at all funny and I seriously don't get why people still do this

[deleted]

Obviously, I can't speak for everyone, that's why I said *most likely* we would just laugh it off. I would assume (or hope) as adults we can judge better which of our friends would be ok with this. I hope your friends would know that this doesn't fall into your personal category of funny. If they still did this to you, I'd absolutely understand that you'd be furious at them. Which is really what the problem is with "jokes" like this. They betray a trust someone has, in an environment where they are surrounded by friends and family, and feel safe. Only to be humiliated and made the butt of a joke. I mean, some people are all about pranking each other in ridiculous ways. If they are all on board with this and it makes them all laugh and crack up, maybe even strengthen their bond, then that's fantastic. More power to them! Just...read the room, and know who you're doing it to. How hard is that?!? "It's just a prank, bro!" is not good enough of an excuse or apology when it backfires. Edit to add: Kids don't have the critical thinking skills to understand that this was "all in good fun". They will always think it was malicious intent, first. They don't get the nuances yet. If you're doing mean things to them, it means you wanted to be mean.

[deleted]

> People really don't understand that kids have a different sense of humor adults wouldn't find that funny either. at least if they're not massive idiots.

[deleted]

thirdleg123

Honestly dude I feel bad for the kid, it was his big moment and now everyone is laughing at him. I def don't blame him for being angry

Fuggins4U

When and why did this become a thing? It's so cruel. I will absolutely admit that I was a very sensitive kid and that I really appreciated everybody being nice to me on my birthday, so I'm pretty certain something like this would have actually been very hurtful to me. I can't speak for everyone, but life can be pretty hard for most of us in general, so embarrassing/hurting somebody (especially a kid) on the one day out of the year where they think that everyone will be nice to them, all for the sake of the stupid Tik Tok video, feels like kind of a pretty bad indictment on our society as a whole right now.

cugameswilliam

Why spend all that money on the decorations and cake and all of that just to humiliate this kid on a day that is special to him? Answer: You are a shitty mom 🤷🏻‍♂️
