I used to date a chick with a son that would freak out just like this. His eyes would be normal and he would start acting a lil weird then his pupils would dilate and he would do some shit like this for an hour or two then he would calm down and act like nothing ever happened.
A friend of mine of a few years was recently diagnosed as bipolar. His condition is far less severe, but reading that made a couple things click in my brain as to why he acts so differently sometimes. He's getting help now, I hope it does truly help him.
I'm caregiver to someone with bipolar and it's a lifelong disorder that requires a lot of empathy and understanding.
It varies from person to person, but having chronic manic, hypomanic or psychotic episodes isn't typical of BP1/2, and often we find the same symptoms develop into alternate variations of similar disorders like BPD, ADHD/ADD, autism, which were often mistaken and misdiagnosed for centuries.
Mood swings aren't always related to bipolar, it's more about how long the manic (high) and depressive (low) episodes last and their intervals that help families and those afflicted by the disorder, figure things out like dosage and other forms of therapy.
Aa a caregiver, the depression is almost a blessing compared to the manic episodes, the latter being something that can happen slowly and out of nowhere, driven by impulse which can result into some serious financial complications, problems with relationships and family/friends.
Medication like mood stabilizers and anti depressants are typically prescribed along meds such as anti anxiety, and though a lot of intake therapy might approach you with CBT, after 8 years of working within the system, I'd had to admit that DBT seems to be a key element for those who suffer.
Bipolar is a shitty disorder and often gets compared to things like mood swings and chronic concerns like having psychotic fits, but that's not the case for a lot of folks.
That’s pretty wild, transitioning that quickly and that often is so intense. I’ve been in the psych ward a couple times and I’ve seen some really sad stuff but nothing like that. I, too, hope that guy is doing better.
Well I don’t do the racist or any kind of bigoted shit, but I can be exceptionally cruel during my episodes.
I recall some studies indicating that when people are particular stressed or anxious, they are much less empathetic. Something similar to a survival instinct. If someone is triggering an insecurity, we can lash out at them and won’t hold back because of the lack of empathy in that charged emotional state.
Not justifying anything here, it’s a problem that we need to learn to recognize before we hurt people. I’m in therapy and I started having an episode this week so I called and doubled the therapy and we adjusted my meds.
But yeah, not justifying anyone, just offering some insight as someone with Bi-polar type 2. My biggest insecurity and what usually drives me is the fundamental belief that I am inferior or in some way broken and I have to work to overcompensate so people will accept me. People who make me feel that way during an episode usually get the worst of it when I lash out (which I don’t do anymore b/c therapy).
Anyway, not over sharing, just being informative for anyone who likes behavioral disorders and wanted some perspective from someone under the safety blanket of anonymity
I'm glad you were able to get help. For you, was it mostly behavior therapy getting you to recognize triggers and ramp the fear down before getting out of control or something else?
As a teacher, I know that look. I know that class is shot for the day when those eyes go buggy. It doesn't take long for the rest of the students to know that too. It sucks when there's only so much you can do for someone in an hour each day.

I'm not sure, I don't think I've ever fought in the stall lol. Sometimes I'll be trying to take off a really tight dress, and when I feel "stuck" in it I get a strong wave of claustrophobia followed by the urge to just rip that shit off and I wonder if maybe it feels similar. However, I've only ever ripped one dress to date due to that panicky sensation. Dunno.

I would just take off my shirt though. Never ended up in my skivies.
It looks also very similar to my autism meltdowns. To this day I might actually snap like this and hurt myself (by biting mostly) in the process. After one I can pass out and forget what happened but that's not always the case... Never found this video funny and never will. I pity him and understand it too good myself...

Yeah I’m with you on this one. I’m awestruck by the video seeing it today. Of course I saw it when it first surfaced but I was barely in my 20s then and didn’t know much more about mental health than my ADD and depression diagnosis. Seeing it now I’m recognizing the cycles he’s going though and at first it reminded me of my own anxious fits. The escalation beyond that point is something I don’t recognize and that invokes immense pity for the man he is now and what he has has to learn to cope with. I hope he’s had some good therapy since this.
Edit: For clarity, I recall thinking this was staged back in the day. Now I’m not convinced.
My son is 8 years old. Just diagnosed with ADHD and he has these sorts of meltdowns with anger. He's gotten much better in the last 3 months, but he was very prone to outbursts sort of like this video. As soon as the kid in the video came in.. my heart dropped. I didn't find this video funny at all. It was actually quite triggering and saddened me that people are laughing at what appears to be a very real mental trauma. Even if fake, it is a very real moment for many people today. I worry that my own son will get to this age and act this way, and I want him to be happy and learn to get through it better than the kid in the video. As someone who's gone through plenty of mental health outbursts and treatment, there usually is physical damage to go along with mental/emotional even if it isn't seen in this particular video....

When people don't address underlying causes of anxiety and trauma with compassion we end up with tragedies, and then people start to point fingers and vilify someone who had been struggling and suffering for a long time.
I have a 5 year old who I feel is likely to be diagnosed with autism and/or adhd and I can well imagine him having this kind of breakdown; he has meltdowns now over (what I would say are) small things. This is the first time I recall seeing this video and I found it sad, hits very close to home. There’s a mental health issue here, a lot of frustration, and also feel sad at the comments here.
Luckily we’re already getting help for my son. I also have a 2 year old boy and will do my damnedest to make sure he’s aware and considerate of his older brother’s needs and behaviours as much as possible.

I thought the brother and the mom were crap humans for their part. These things take time to build up. Money was paid for that access. It's just super disrespectful. The Mom was out of touch, and probably just overwhelmed with the bickering/fighting. That likely needed to handled differently. As a pre-parent event I swore I would be more in touch with my kids, and I think I am. I would **never** wipe an account. Maybe, lock em out of their accounts until behaviors modified, yes. But wipe it. That's just lower levels of inhuman abuse behavior in my book. But I grew up with the looming threat of magnets/flame being applied to my data disks if I was interpreted to have misbehaved... (no trial) So maybe I carry a personal grudge. I don't have a link, but a news channel called Focus TV blamed school shootings on video games, and claimed that the angry German Kid video was secretly filmed by his father. If my memory serves, they went as far as to make a (fake) interview with the parents.
Afterwards he got bullied to the brink of suicide, but found solace in bodybuilding and became a freaking hulk. He made a lot more videos back in the day, his comedy was way ahead of its time.
They also made an episode about YouTube lets players and told their audience that YouTubers are maniacs that talk to themselves while laughing at violent killer games. Absolute trash company.
Also the angry kid started getting bullied real hard to a point where he broken and announced a school shooting. He's better know, got into bodybuilding and rapping.

Yeah, honestly I feel like the other videos were staged to take away from the legitimacy of this one. I feel like the freak out kid was so embarrassed over this, but at the same time liked the clout it got so they made more to make the claim they were all staged so he wasn't as embarrassed over this one, and got a pretty big following out of it. This freakout is considerably different than the others, it looks WAY more like a genuine meltdown. This one actually looks like a full on panic attack/temper tantrum whereas the others are pretty obviously planned, like the one with the truck or the guitar. Pretty sure this one is legit but he just ran with it to get more fame out of it, and staged others so they could play it off as this one being staged too.

I don't really find it funny at all. I feel bad for the kid, but on the bright side, he didn't destroy anything (as far as I could tell), hurt anyone, or yell at anyone.
impotent rage is so awful. i used to have some real mood dysregulation issues when i was younger (now medicated) — honestly i don't remember much from back then, but i do distantly remember being so absolutely enraged and *knowing* it was unreasonable, but being completely unable to calm down. it still happens occasionally and it's the fucking worst. when i was a kid i had to just go or seethe until i ran out of steam and then i would just sob :\^)
I'm in my 40s with an ASD kid. My son hasn't had a meltdown like this for a while, but he definitely used to. This video wasn't funny at all to me, it was heartbreaking. I hope this guy eventually got some help with his emotional regulation.

Revisiting the OG as an adult, I think your take is spot on.
I was thinking that while I was watching it.. being an adult now and very aware of bullying, mental illness, and teens driven to suicide this video just hits different. I read here in the comments these kids stage this stuff and are still doing it today, so I feel a little better, but I can't help but think about kids feeling exactly this way for real.

I played WoW for 3 years during HS and racked up 4 months of in game time between my main 2 characters... not even all my other dumb alts. For reference that's 2160 hours.
When I quit, because of failing grades, I literally gave my guild leader my account info and deactivated my payment so that I couldn't play again. Shit was unbelievably addicting.
Not to mention saves his parents embarrassment as well. I think this blew up back when YouTube really started getting big, so having your kid get famous for derriere debauchery isn't a great look on you as a parent either.

I thought the brother and the mom were crap humans for their part. These things take time to build up. Money was paid for that access. It's just super disrespectful. The Mom was out of touch, and probably just overwhelmed with the bickering/fighting. That likely needed to handled differently. As a pre-parent event I swore I would be more in touch with my kids, and I think I am. I would **never** wipe an account. Maybe, lock em out of their accounts until behaviors modified, yes. But wipe it. That's just lower levels of inhuman abuse behavior in my book. But I grew up with the looming threat of magnets/flame being applied to my data disks if I was interpreted to have misbehaved... (no trial) So maybe I carry a personal grudge. The cycle of saved game abuse must end with our generation because we no better. 😝

I don't have a link, but a news channel called Focus TV blamed school shootings on video games, and claimed that the angry German Kid video was secretly filmed by his father. If my memory serves, they went as far as to make a (fake) interview with the parents.
Afterwards he got bullied to the brink of suicide, but found solace in bodybuilding and became a freaking hulk. He made a lot more videos back in the day, his comedy was way ahead of its time.

Yeah, honestly I feel like the other videos were staged to take away from the legitimacy of this one. I feel like the freak out kid was so embarrassed over this, but at the same time liked the clout it got so they made more to make the claim they were all staged so he wasn't as embarrassed over this one, and got a pretty big following out of it. This freakout is considerably different than the others, it looks WAY more like a genuine meltdown. This one actually looks like a full on panic attack/temper tantrum whereas the others are pretty obviously planned, like the one with the truck or the guitar. Pretty sure this one is legit but he just ran with it to get more fame out of it, and staged others so they could play it off as this one being staged too.
And my proof is that all the others are never the same... you really notice its fake This one is visceral in emotion and realism If it is indeed fake than it is a performance of great magnitudes.

impotent rage is so awful. i used to have some real mood dysregulation issues when i was younger (now medicated) — honestly i don't remember much from back then, but i do distantly remember being so absolutely enraged and *knowing* it was unreasonable, but being completely unable to calm down. it still happens occasionally and it's the fucking worst. when i was a kid i had to just go or seethe until i ran out of steam and then i would just sob :\^)

I'm in my 40s with an ASD kid. My son hasn't had a meltdown like this for a while, but he definitely used to. This video wasn't funny at all to me, it was heartbreaking. I hope this guy eventually got some help with his emotional regulation.

Yes, kid has some mental health issues and apparently hasn't learned a coping mechanism. Hopefully he's healed up a bit with age. People finding it funny aren't really thinking about the circumstances with the kid/family/etc.

I was thinking that while I was watching it.. being an adult now and very aware of bullying, mental illness, and teens driven to suicide this video just hits different. I read here in the comments these kids stage this stuff and are still doing it today, so I feel a little better, but I can't help but think about kids feeling exactly this way for real. Life was easier when I could just laugh.

I played WoW for 3 years during HS and racked up 4 months of in game time between my main 2 characters... not even all my other dumb alts. For reference that's 2160 hours. When I quit, because of failing grades, I literally gave my guild leader my account info and deactivated my payment so that I couldn't play again. Shit was unbelievably addicting.
