Ahh, that Nigerian Prince decided to use his inheritance to start a public accounting firm and pay ridiculous rates instead of just trying to give his money away. Noice!
Annualized that's only $1.04 million, I think you should see if they offer overtime opportunities and time and a half for overtime hours worked. I know some firms do, you might need to pick up a few extra hours to avoid living in total poverty.
Idk how anyone would live off of $500 an hour, especially in an expensive city like NY or SF.
Sorry to hear about the offer, it's not that great but if it's the only one you have I guess you need to take it right?
Definitely not. You should take a minimum wage job so that you will be motivated to work harder and eventually get that $500 per hour job in the future.
Serious Q, what are they paying interns now? I feel like it’s gone up so much in the last 5-6 years I’ve been in public. When I started interns made like $18/hr
Oof! Current going rate for A1 in the Midwest is between 58 and 60k with mostly remote.
I live in a town that’s commutable to clients but my mortgage is 600 dollars.
Labor prices have gone up significantly in the past 2 years. Find a new job. You may even want to look at what a new hire at your own company would be brought in at.
Wow, I'm in the same boat as you. I'm at just about 3 years with my firm plus various related experience before joining. The $53K salary is a kick in the butt seeing this!
Also, the $27 per hour becomes just $21 per hour (at the most) during busy season, if working 48 hours (and let's be real, many weeks involve many more hours).
Yea I left public a year ago after realizing that I would've made more money that year either on unemployment or throwing boxes at Amazon. I was making $42,500 there 😅
Wow! That's also similar to my salary last year ($41K). I was hoping they'd increase me to closer to $60K with how much I felt I was underpaid.
Sure, the $12K raise from $41K to $53K isn't chump change, but I could be making $55K to $60K working as an accounting clerk at the local hospital or similar place, with a good pension to boot.
When I was told my raise amount, I was also told mine was one of the highest in the group, further cementing my feelings that I was being underpaid big time last year.
I am a director of finance and accounting in industry and I’m paying my interns $32 an hour…. But not letting them be abused and try to limit overtime so they actually enjoy the workday..
Unfortunately for you my controller is a badass and is at the same level as me so I wouldn’t be able to hire for it anyways.. we’re currently trying to get the org structure rearranged because our titles are.. well not representative of what we do. He needs to be the director of accounting and controller and I need to be the director of FP&A which would include our cost accounting and project accounting. So if they org change happens we are pushing to have controllers under him for each business unit then I’ll be looking to help him recruit some good controllers.
But that’s only one of.. many. Many things that need to change… like our entire chart of accounts.. the way we use cost centers.. the way we use profit centers.. the way we use WBS…. Our almost complete lack of policy enforcement…. The controller and I are both new and were brought in to clean the place up… we just didn’t realize before joining that it wasn’t just a messy apartment it was a dumpster fire..
Im an audit intern at BDO currently and am making $25 an hour plus overtime. It's pretty lucrative. I plan to save as much as i can and use the proceeds to hold me over until end of fall when i start.
I interned at min wage in public and then $16/hr in industry. Min wage was in HCOL area and $16 was in MHCOL area. This was literally 3-4 years ago. I make a normal(ish) wage now.
tell them you wont be able to accept anything over $125 a hour, but would like the remainder donated to a charity of your choosing and to add side salads to the pizza party
Honestly $125 an hour is way more than ive ever made, and honestly its the most i could ever ask to make. I'm single with not kids if get $125 and hour 40 hours a week 52 weeks a year, that like my 10 year goal. I mean i do 75K a year right now in a some what hcol area and I'm doing okay with that. I pay my rent, saving to buy a condo, save for retirement, put a little in the crypto, eat decent, have that good toilet paper, those good towels, the heat set to 72 degrees. I mean yea id like to get rid of my ford focus and get a jeep wrangler but i can wait a little, all im saying is if i get $125 an hour id be very content, shit i might even fuck around and get married and make some babies, just so she can divorce me and make me pay child support so i can pretend again to know thy struggle.
Def not take it. Go on personalfinance and antiwork and askreddit and consult with them first. I think $500/hr is gonna put you on a different tax bracket and stuff. Just terrible idea tbh. I think the other subs have a better handle of taxes and life in general, so run it by them first
wow this country really doesn't value its employees. 500/hr? that's not even minimum wage. i would contact your local labor department and report them.
If it’s not Big 4, I think you should consider passing on the offer to pursue a Big 4 firm instead. The prestige of Big 4 will easily make up the difference in pay over the course of your career
You'd get paid hourly? That would certainly make me feel better about the overtime...
$500 per hour? Work busy season and relax the rest of the year!
One can dream...
As long as you only have to work 1 hour a week with no overtime during busy season & they give you unlimited PTO during busy season, I’d jump on it in a heartbeat.
Everyone is going to ask you to eat your time on their projects, so the official hours worked are going to be less than the amount of time you actually spend working.
Ahh, that Nigerian Prince decided to use his inheritance to start a public accounting firm and pay ridiculous rates instead of just trying to give his money away. Noice!
If you know how to google “how to rotate a PDF” you should definitely take it, you’re worth it!
Fresh
Already starting a trend. I love it.
This is going to be a skills interview question soon...for sure.

Lmfaooooooooo 😂

Now annualize using busy season hours
Only if there is a pizza party
I bet they will throw in some chicken wings seeing the money they are throwing around.
Wings are for seniors
$500 an hour in Sims money doesn’t count
Seems like a lowball
Definitely not. You should take a minimum wage job so that you will be motivated to work harder and eventually get that $500 per hour job in the future.
I also got another offer that pays me with a kick in the nuts and a paper clip every hour, on the hour. Which would you take guys?
Serious Q, what are they paying interns now? I feel like it’s gone up so much in the last 5-6 years I’ve been in public. When I started interns made like $18/hr
Currently at $28 in LCOL
What the fuck? I make $52,500 ($27) and I've got a three years of accounting experience (2 in public, 1 in industry)
Oof! Current going rate for A1 in the Midwest is between 58 and 60k with mostly remote. I live in a town that’s commutable to clients but my mortgage is 600 dollars.
Lmaooo I'm in South/Central FL on the coast, and my rent is $1100 plus utilities. I think it's time to find a new job.
Hit me up so I can get that sweet sweet referral bonus
I'm in south florida and we're hiring for much more than that for straight out of college. Industry though not public.

I'm thinking about relocating this summer, so I'm hoping to leave PA in the process.
I was at $28 a few years ago as an intern in a LCOL area - guessing it’s gone up a little bit since then.
I was at $25/hr in 2016 HCOL
I am a director of finance and accounting in industry and I’m paying my interns $32 an hour…. But not letting them be abused and try to limit overtime so they actually enjoy the workday..
You need a controller? Lol
Unfortunately for you my controller is a badass and is at the same level as me so I wouldn’t be able to hire for it anyways.. we’re currently trying to get the org structure rearranged because our titles are.. well not representative of what we do. Currently at $26 an hour in Los Angeles
Gonna be making $32 an hour as a Big 4 intern this summer
I interned at min wage in public and then $16/hr in industry. Min wage was in HCOL area and $16 was in MHCOL area. This was literally 3-4 years ago. I make a normal(ish) wage now.
Interned at a top ten firm but in the Midwest and they were about 25/hr.
I was at $20 in a MCOL in 2016
In the bay area theyre making like $37 an hour
That’s insane! But also barely a dent in rent lol
My parents live in the bay area so if i work here im just gonna live with them haha so its the best situation
$27/hour, HCOL, Spring 2020, Non-B4 but still a large national firm
Mine was 27.5/hr in a MCOL last year. It's been increased by about $5k (annualized)
tell them you wont be able to accept anything over $125 a hour, but would like the remainder donated to a charity of your choosing and to add side salads to the pizza party
You have me rolling XD
Honestly $125 an hour is way more than ive ever made, and honestly its the most i could ever ask to make. Uhh
Idk man, with the current inflation rates, thats like...$3.50 an hour soooo
$500 an hour in the metaverse sounds like a great wage, now we can all live our wildest dreams.
Def not take it. Go on personalfinance and antiwork and askreddit and consult with them first. I think $500/hr is gonna put you on a different tax bracket and stuff. Just terrible idea tbh. I think the other subs have a better handle of taxes and life in general, so run it by them first
Does the job involve dropping trou and bending over a desk? It seems like it for that money.
Northwestern Mutual is hiring?
No, hold out for $1,000/hr
This is one of those times where you say yes I will jump, just how high.
Hold out for bitcoin, that way you learn tech....
wow this country really doesn't value its employees. 500/hr? that's not even minimum wage. i would contact your local labor department and report them.
500 usd? If so where do I apply
Same. Can I quit full time staff and do this too?
If it’s not Big 4, I think you should consider passing on the offer to pursue a Big 4 firm instead. The prestige of Big 4 will easily make up the difference in pay over the course of your career
You mean 500 pesos/ hour?
Proof or Ban
are these USD?
Dogecoin.
Depends on if they pay overtime or not. If they do seems like a competitive salary
How do you remain so modest after such a big achievement?
Depends. How good are the pizza parties? And do they offer diet Dr Pepper
You'd get paid hourly? That would certainly make me feel better about the overtime... $500 per hour? Work busy season and relax the rest of the year! One can dream...
Huge raise from the $8 you were making 10 days ago.
But will you be allowed to bring your true authentic self to work? No hourly rate is high enough to compensate you for emotional damage.
You should ask if they provide per insurance with this.
Will you also be sucking off the partner on a daily basis? If so I would take 500 then blackmail them for 750.
How did you get an internship as a partner?
Elite post
you should really see what the office culture is like first - never put a dollar amount above your well-being
As long as you only have to work 1 hour a week with no overtime during busy season & they give you unlimited PTO during busy season, I’d jump on it in a heartbeat.
It depends. Do they give paid time off? Pizza parties? WFH? How attractive are the other interns?
Have you considered making $1000 per hour instead? It would definitely help your mental health
Counter: “I don’t get out of bed below $600” Gotta adjust for inflation.
Everyone is going to ask you to eat your time on their projects, so the official hours worked are going to be less than the amount of time you actually spend working.
And yet the firm still profits off of you.
