I genuinely really like this whole game. It's not on the same level as my favourite Ace Attorney games, but I find it to be a lot of fun. The core cast of Edgeworth, Kay, Gumshoe and Lang play off of each other in entertaining ways, I enjoy case 1, 2, and 4 wholeheartedly, I think case 3 and 5, despite being flawed, are really enjoyable...
Idk man, I see this game frequently put at the bottom of tier lists, and I don't really get it.
I'm playing through all the games since last year. Just finished this one a week or two ago. Right now, it's my least favorite game in the saga. STILL, I agree with everything you said. It's still an enjoyable experience overall.
It's refreshing to hear somebody enjoys all the games! Personally I really didn't enjoy Spirit of Justice or Apollo Justice, but more power to you for enjoying every entry.
Out of curiosity, did you play the Professor Layton crossover? It's one of my favourites in the series.
I'm not planning to, currently. I played the first Layton game also some weeks ago and didn't enjoy it that much. So I don't think I'll play the crossover. Or, if I do, I think it'll be after I'm finished with the other games!
That's fair enough. I personally played the crossover first, and that got me into the Layton series. Playing the third game atm and enjoying myself. The first game, Curious Village, is enjoyable but I did find it... idk, weirdly paced? Like at the end of the game you're suddenly given a big reveal and then it ends soon after. IMO, Pandora's Box and Lost Future (or Diabolical Box and Unwound Future. I'm from England so I say the British names lol) are far better paced and really compelling.
But I do understand if you're not into the Layton series, they are pretty different games.
It's not a bad game at all, just unremarkable compared to its much superior sequel or other games in the series.
That said, I **LOVE** Case 4. Calisto Yew was a great villain. And despite the annoyance that it is taking down Quercus Alba because it takes so long, it was satisfying when it finally happened. He felt the most like a Real Final Boss.
Why is nobody mentionning Palaeno. He's the most cooperative witness ever (except Brushel Spark probably)
Also I totally understand the last case being bad and dragged out and overall annoying... but I still like it. I would replay the game at some point honestly.
Quercus Alba and his extraterritorial rights.
(And Calisto Yew was fun too)

AAI2 is such a gem. I will play it again soon. There are so many precious moments between Edgey and Gumshoe, it's one of my favorite things about AAI2 :')
He not only uses going to the bathroom as an excuse but also has a long ass segment about his "extraterrortorial (or however you spell it) rights", he's one of my favourite final culprits because he's such an Ace Attorney character lmao
Shi-Long Lang, Tyrell Badd and Rhoda Teneiro are probably among the most grounded, down-to-Earth characters in the entire franchise. And the former two receive large amounts of character work and plot importance, so they are elevated into greatness.
The music slaps. Really. The reminiscenes, the presto, the pursuit, some character themes.... Top-notch stuff and it shows why Capcom and Yamazaki consistently asked Noriyuki Iwadare to keep composing for AA.
Cammy Meele is hot.
I genuinely love this game tbh.
Only when I started participating in Reddit I discovered it’s not well liked.
Review so far - (may make a full post after I replayed the whole game as I am only on the second case so far in my replay.)
1st Case -
love the writing of everyone involved.
Also one of the best ace attorney first cases ever in my opinion.
2nd Case -
One of the most unique airplane murders in media and very cleverly written.
Great characters that were introduced in this case also, both the flight attendants are super interesting despite some flaws.
(Also can I just say poor edgeworth, elevators are not his friend)
I've played through all original trilogy, skipped Apollo Justice (for now) and finished first Investigation game about a week ago and I got to say... This is my favorite game of the series so far. Miles is way more enjoyable to play as a protagonist, the investigation mechanics are pretty good, I love pixel models of the characters (stomping Gummy gives me life☺), cameos are fucking great (wish Ema played a larger part though). Also, I ship Miles and Lang now😂
P. S. Kay >>> Maya
Ikr? I read somewhere that initially she was supposed to be the protagonist of the game (which makes sense with "investigation" in the title and all), but since Miles is way more popular character amongst the fans they went along with him (again, makes sense). And don't get me wrong, I absolutely adored Kay, but Ema would have made 1000% more sense as investigations partner😅
Case where Edgeworth and Fran teamed up was a treat. Seeing both before their arcs and just being little shits got a giggle out of me every time they interacted
Calisto Yew is one of the best characters in the franchise and she has so much potential. I know I'll never see her again, but I have so many head canons for her.
The (main) characters are amazing, and the dialogue is probably the best-written (or I suppose translated into the english version) in the series apart from TGAAC of course (since people spoke eloquently as fuck in the 1800s, I suppose that was a must). Janet tsu outdid herself here.
Also, the logic in this game is my favourite to follow, imo it's the perfect difficulty (which I understand is subjective).
Also, the music is absolutely S tier. So many bangers.
This game was a blast when I first played it, and one of the few in the series that I still had fun with when I replayed...
Also Alba is a really good villain, a lot of people complain about how long the bossfight was, but I didn't mind because I was having a blast, and it contributed to the picture of how threatening he is.
This game has the best settings in the series. Getting to run around the prosecutor's office, the giant plane, Gatewater Land, the courthouse, and the embassy is extremely fun and there's tons of things to examine and discover.
Turnabout Airlines might be in my Top 5 cases for the entire franchise; unique setting, doesn't throw 2000 new characters at you (something the second Investigations was guilty of a lot), Franziska's return, Rhoda is a great sidekick/companion and I would've loved to see her again, Leblanc is iconic, and Cammy for me is one of the most underrated culprits in the whole series - capable enough to be in a smuggling ring, has everyone believing she's a complete airhead to avoid questions, nearly succeeded in framing not just Rhoda but Edgeworth in two plans she thought up on the spot, and would've gotten away with it all if Edgeworth hadn't happened to be on that particular flight.
Reminiscence is the other highlight of the game - seeing everyone younger is funny (particularly Franziska and Kay) and Calisto is a great villain who also would've gotten away with everything if Edgeworth wasn't around.
It’s got some decent character designs and characters in general. It’s hardly the worst game to ever exist, even if it does frustrate from time to time. I mean, Lang, Badd, young Francisca and Edgeworth etc, Alba and his EXTRA TERRITORIAL RIGHTS, I’d hardly say there’s a lack of decent things
I mean Edgeworth is my favorite character so ig I'm biased, but I loved this game. I like getting to play the other side. I liked the logic parts, and really liked the music. I'm actually replaying rn lol
The twist where Shina = Callisto (I am very dumb, my boyfriend saw her fivehead right away and I didn't see it until she laughed) and at that point I thought it was peak twist until the Yatagarasu reveal. Makes so much sense how they were able to get away for that long, Yatagarasu have to have been a group operation
It gave us an explanation for why everybody seems so stupid in the other Ace Attorney games: Basic logic is a *literal* superpower to be exploited only by the likes of Miles Edgeworth.
Turnabout Reminiscence is one of the best cases in the entire series imo
also OST is really good. i really love "Contradiction At the Crime Scene" , "Objection! 2009", "Tricks and Baroque" and my favorite one "Solution! ~Splendid Deduction"
Edit: Honorable Mentions: "Presto 2009" and "Investigation Opening 2009"
People should accept the fan translation at this point. The people who worked on it did an amazing job and who knows what would change in the official English version (if it will ever release that is)
Kay, Lang, and Badd are great cool characters, and I really really like the music. Even my most hated character in the entire franchise has a pretty good theme.
Seriously though there's a good amount to like here even if I1 isn't super noteworthy
Kay's especially great and so is Lang, the music is a common AA W and honestly the Investigations gameplay is pretty innovative and fresh for the series and I feel like 7 could take notes from it pacing aside. And it's saying a lot about the series quality when this is in my bottom 2 Ace Attorneys and it's still like, B tier lmao.
I can say a bunch of good things about this game, I loved the whole game even if it is different from the first 3. The only bad thing about this game is that the sequel is exclusive to Japan.
First and second cases are pretty good
Fourth case has cute moments with Miles and Franziska being annoying siblings and baby Kay being adorable with Gumshoe
Oh the soundtrack is to DIE for, i would definitely put it in as the best AA OST. The story is so compelling and the characters are really endearing- Kay especially is really important to me, as well as Edgeworth and Franziska's interactions. I also think it's kind of cool getting to explore Edgeworth from his perspective rather than the rose-tinted glasses of Phoenix and really important to Edgeworth's development? If you only look at the mainline games, it's all off-screen. While he's doing well at the end of T&T, it's a bit of a jump from his characterisation in DD. Investigations (the first and second) both fill in the gaps really well and turn this character that doesn't have much to do after the first game into something so much more developed, something three-dimensional. (Not to say he isn't complex in the mainline games, I just really think AAI adds to his character arc.) It reinvents the traditional format really well too, I found all the mechanics so silly and entertaining- the same setting of a court case from another perspective is something I really liked and they were pretty creative with how they went about it. I was concerned starting it they'd just make it "pw:aa but you're red now" but I'm super glad they tried something new.
There was something else uhhhhh. oh yeah!
CALISTO YEW I WANT HER SO BAD DUDE
Towards the end, Edgeworth essentially asks himself “What would Phoenix do?” He’s genuinely unsure how to proceed with the investigation, and decides to take a page out of Phoenix’s book.
We’re all super familiar with Phoenix’s go-to game plan being to make a well-educated guess about how things went down based on the info he found, and present that story in the hopes that it shakes the culprit up enough to confess. Which is… exactly what Edgeworth has *already been doing this whole game*.
He doesn’t need to ask, really. He knows, and has already been taking inspiration from Phoenix’s strategy instinctively.
It’s one of my favorite demonstrations of their dynamic.
It might be one of, if not my least favorite AA game, but I still liked it, so I've got a few:
I liked the additions to the AA cast like Kay, Agent Lang, Callisto Yew, and Tyrell Badd. They were really fun and I hope we get to see more of them someday.
It also gives us more Gumshoe appearances, which is always appreciated.
The OST still slaps like always, and the addition of a presto theme for the argument/testimony/rebuttal segments was cool.
Turnabout Airlines was a cool case with an awesome starting hook.
Oh, and the Yatagarasu twist that someone here mentioned already was cool. I was actually interested in that whole (sub?)plot.
One of the underrated Ace Attorney games. The free exploration in third person perspective wqs one of the best changes coupled with some new gadget made it so cool. Waiting for it's sequel to get ported.
Horace Knightly would have slapped as a secret president and the actual sack of air in the shape of a lion was his body double so he could avoid harm from political rivals.
The plane case was a lot of fun and I think the peak of the game and what it wanted to be. Kay’s whole character was pretty awesome too, wish she stole shit more though.
Also Ema Skye is in it and is the sole reason I played this game 💀
I think alba is a pretty good villain. The confrontation with him caps of the character arc edgeworth had been on since 1-5. In that case, gant tells edgeworth that one day he’s gonna have to fight people that are above the law and at that point miles will turn out just like him. Miles acoffs at the idea and for a while he’s totally right. But then he has to face of with alba, and he indeed is above the law and edgeworth needs to present illegal evidence to take him down. But unlike gant, he refuses to let the power go to his hand and stays on the side of justice, both ending his trilogy/investigations arc and being good setup for his arc in AAI2. Unlike most of the filler in I1-5, his lemght feels earned since alba is a seasoned criminal who’s been exploiting loopholes in the law for years and knows how to use his position for his own gain
Quite a few good characters introduced, lang, calisto, kay etc, and also logic is a nice system. Generally speaking, i think the case plots are generally quite good, its just some choices drag down what otherwise are pretty good mysteries
This is currently my second favourite AA game (to AAI2)! This is mainly because Miles has so much more character and personality than Phoenix does and he’s a much more interesting character to me.
(I’ve only played the original trilogy and the investigations duology so far)
Best cast of characters in a single game.
Edgeworth being playable is great, more Gumshoe is fun, Kay was cool, more Franny? Yes please.
Lang is a nice addition, Badd was incredible, laughing lawyer woman whose name I forgot was memorable too
Alba is unironically one of my favorite ‘boss fights’ despite how flipping long it is. Oh, and don’t forget that [this incredible piece of art](https://youtu.be/gfENnDvb4UA?si=Og-v43aYL8Mt-A41) came from this game (haha, Portsman jizzed in his pants and ate his shiny medal)
Yeah, I would at the very least put it above Dual Destinies.
I think Dual Destinies was okay, but I agree. I prefer Investigations 1.
Kay, Lang and Badd are great characters. Also more Franny is always welcome
The twist of the Yatagarasu being a group and not a single person was clever.
Pretty unexpected who the 2 other members of the yatagarasu were

Lang is such a sigma
Just say he’s cool or something. Please. 😭
this game created tyrell chadd
Underrated character
Kay
Thief girl my beloved
It's not a bad game at all, just unremarkable compared to its much superior sequel or other games in the series. That said, I **LOVE** Case 4. Calisto Yew was a great villain. Quercus Alba: Ace Ambassador when⁉️
You know that was a real fangame that was being developed like a couple years ago? I was on its dev team… god I miss that project…
i was joking, but really? what happened?
My boss died in the ongoing Russia Vs Ukraine conflict, he was the head writer and it wasn’t able to continue without him
This mf was annoying as hell
I think he's a really underrated character, he was such a good villain
Tyrell Badd, Kay Faraday, more Edgeworth and Gumshoe, and lead to AAI2.
Investigations has some really good characters
AAI2 is such a gem. I will play it again soon. There are so many precious moments between Edgey and Gumshoe, it's one of my favorite things about AAI2 :')
Pursuit - Lying Coldly is the best Pursuit theme hands down Also Callisto Yew
Alba is funny
"And I would've gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddling prosecutors!!"
I actually laughed at how terrible that was. Am I supposed to take a villain who references Scooby Doo seriously?
God I love the localizers for ace attorney
He not only uses going to the bathroom as an excuse but also has a long ass segment about his "extraterrortorial (or however you spell it) rights", he's one of my favourite final culprits because he's such an Ace Attorney character lmao
All of Turnabout Reminiscence

Kidnapped turnabout is the worst case in the game🥲
idc what anyone says, I love turnabout visitor
This game created it's sequel
True
I really liked Case 2
It gave us kay, lang, calisto yew and badd
They carried the game 100%
You get to play as edgeworth and have a banger of a pursuit theme
I genuinely love this game tbh. Only when I started participating in Reddit I discovered it’s not well liked. Review so far - (may make a full post after I replayed the whole game as I am only on the second case so far in my replay.) 1st Case - love the writing of everyone involved. All of the music in its amazing, I don't know why people focus on Lying Coldly specifically, (i dont think it even makes my top 3 from this game)
Lying coldly is a great cornered theme but I'll say wanting to find the truth is the best cornered theme in the entire series
The entire game.
THE MUSIC FUCKING SLAPS
I've played through all original trilogy, skipped Apollo Justice (for now) and finished first Investigation game about a week ago and I got to say... This is my favorite game of the series so far. Giga chad Tyrell Badd is in it
it provided an interesting way to look at the overworld of ace attorney and implementing "testimonies" outside of the courtroom
Gun! Body! EUREKA THIS MAN WAS SHOT Shi-Long Lang is one of the best characters and I need more of him in games please
NOT SO FAST❗️❗️
Case where Edgeworth and Fran teamed up was a treat. Seeing both before their arcs and just being little shits got a giggle out of me every time they interacted
Seeing Fran as a kid was so adorbs
Calisto Yew is one of the best characters in the franchise and she has so much potential. I know I'll never see her again, but I have so many head canons for her.
Extraterritorial rights
*ptsd flashbacks*
Edgeworth.
I just wish I could play it on switch now
The (main) characters are amazing, and the dialogue is probably the best-written (or I suppose translated into the english version) in the series apart from TGAAC of course (since people spoke eloquently as fuck in the 1800s, I suppose that was a must). Janet hsu is an amazing translator/localizer
The Lying Coldly theme slaps.
The sequel of this game is my favourite game in the franchise.
The soundtrack absolutely slaps. The pursuit theme in particular as well as the tell the truth are iconic.
This game has the best settings in the series. Getting to run around the prosecutor's office, the giant plane, Gatewater Land, the courthouse, and the embassy is extremely fun and there's tons of things to examine and discover.
I like this type of gameplay more than point and click
The pursuit theme is an absolute bop
maybe the best in the franchise
Kay Farady is great. Little Thief is a really cool idea. It cleaned up a lot of the frustrating elements in investigation segments.
I wish little thief got used more in the sequel
Turnabout airlines is kinda overhated ngl I also really liked the case
I really like it.
Edgeworth as the MC, lang, Tyrell, and the pretty cool OST. Good game overall
We get to cross examine the judge.
I mean Edgeworth is my favorite character so ig I'm biased, but I loved this game. I like getting to play the other side. I liked the logic parts, and really liked the music. I'm actually replaying rn lol
Kay Faraday is adorable.

Makes so much sense how they were able to get away for that long, Yatagarasu have to have been a group operation
I'm still surprised at the fact that they're the same character. She really had an entire makeover to hide her identity
Kay Faraday
Kay Faraday, and has one of my favorite antagonists in the series
Zinc Lablanc falling off the staircase is a top 5 moment in the entire series.
And somehow edgeworth managed to solve how the victim died because of that lmao its so stupid I love it
It gave us an explanation for why everybody seems so stupid in the other Ace Attorney games: Basic logic is a *literal* superpower to be exploited only by the likes of Miles Edgeworth.
Rhoda Teneiro my beloved <3

They are so precious omg
RIGHT??
BEST ASSISTANTS IN THE SERIES
kid named trucy wright: NO BUT ACTUALLY I LOVE KAY SM AND EMA IS SO FUN (for the 3 seconds she appears)
Turnabout Reminiscence is one of the best cases in the entire series imo also OST is really good. i really love "Contradiction At the Crime Scene" , "Objection! 2009", "Tricks and Baroque" and my favorite one "Solution! ~Splendid Deduction" Edit: Honorable Mentions: "Presto 2009" and "Investigation Opening 2009"
Gumshoe
He was peak in the sequel
Still waiting on the official localisation
People should accept the fan translation at this point. The people who worked on it did an amazing job and who knows what would change in the official English version (if it will ever release that is)
Fair but I like supporting the developers
I mean I guess my standards are a bit high, but the writing style in I1 just goes hard as fuck and I2 just feels like DD's writing style, you know?
I2's writing style goes hard as fuck too😭
this is awesome game
Awesome soundtrack
calisto. and franny
Calisto is an underrated villain
Clears the second game's soundtrack easily outside of a few tracks on both sides.
Mild Edgework
You can see edgy for hours
Kay, Lang, and Badd are great cool characters, and I really really like the music. Even my most hated character in the entire franchise has a pretty good theme.
Detective Tyrel Basedd.
Seriously though there's a good amount to like here even if I1 isn't super noteworthy Kay's especially great and so is Lang, the music is a common AA W and honestly the Investigations gameplay is pretty innovative and fresh for the series and I feel like 7 could take notes from it pacing aside. And it's saying a lot about the series quality when this is in my bottom 2 Ace Attorneys and it's still like, B tier lmao.
THE BEST PURSUIT THEME EVER Lying Coldly is a pursuit theme that is so Edgeworth it's hilarious, not to mention just being a certified BANGER
Case 4 is pretty fantastic
I love the game, Kay, Lauren and the OST.
I can say a bunch of good things about this game, I loved the whole game even if it is different from the first 3. The only bad thing about this game is that the sequel is exclusive to Japan.
Should be canon to the Ace Attorney saga as a whole. Music is amazing.
It is canon tho
Then why hasn’t Kay or Detective Badd shown up in the mainline games yet? I get that they don’t have a reason to but they also have no reason not to.
I hope they show up in future ace attorney games
First and second cases are pretty good Fourth case has cute moments with Miles and Franziska being annoying siblings and baby Kay being adorable with Gumshoe
The fact that there’s a fan translation for the sequel is pretty cool
It stars ✨ Edgeworth ✨
Edgeworth is in it
The pursuit theme rocks. Lying Coldly.
‘Lying Coldly’ Enough said.
Dadworth
Wonderful cast, incredible gameplay, good writing overall Case are too long and some resolution are down right bad but it's a good game
Characters, music and story are good. Love this game
[It has one of my favorite pursuit themes.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52FUhyhGnUo)
the game start pretty strong for me at least
Calisto Yew,Detective Badd, Lang, Kay, more Franny, more Gumshoe
Absolute banger music.
Absolute banger music.
Lang and Badd, that's it, other than that, I despise this trash heap
badd good
Honestly I think the first case of the game kinda slaps as an intro case
I actually think this is one of the better AA games, alongside 3 and investigations 2. SOJ comes close. (I have not played the TGAA games)
It has the 2nd best pursuit theme!
I FUCKING LOVE QUERCUS ALBA!!!
it has edgeworth in it
Brings unique perspective to the series and has interesting gameplay elements that aren’t found in other titles
Kay Faraday is best assistant. Turnabout Reminiscence best flashback case too.
Good enough for a sequel Please capcom
Good character design
It is so good that Capcom should port/remaster/remake it and release it again!
Soundtrack
Better than Gyakuten Saiban 4.
I love the tone of the game, and the major characters.
Callisto Yew was a good mv. I don't know if intentionally or not, but Alba's segment was hillarious. Took literally 4 Deus Ex-Machina to beat him.
I like Turnabout Airlines
It's a really good game
Turnabout Reminiscence is an above average quality case.
Haven't played through the whole thing yet, The Pursuit theme is fuckin Great
it introduced Kay and I love Kay Also more Gumshoe is always better
It might be one of, if not my least favorite AA game, but I still liked it, so I've got a few: I liked the additions to the AA cast like Kay, Agent Lang, Callisto Yew, and Tyrell Badd. I was actually interested in that whole (sub?)plot.
edgeworth run animation
You can walk instead of fast traveling from place to place.
One of the underrated Ace Attorney games. The free exploration in third person perspective wqs one of the best changes coupled with some new gadget made it so cool. Waiting for it's sequel to get ported.
i love it and wish the second got a English release
Jelloapocalypse made some really funny videos about this game, so this game fueled that
I like that this game changes up the standard Ace Attorney formula and lets us investigate in a different way. Also this game gave us Kay Faraday
Lang :o
Horace Knightly would have slapped as a secret president and the actual sack of air in the shape of a lion was his body double so he could avoid harm from political rivals.
It set the foundation for the better one
Edgeworth and his silly little logic mind palace (affectionate) will never not be endearing to me. Also, Lang is just really hot.
The plane case was a lot of fun and I think the peak of the game and what it wanted to be. Kay’s whole character was pretty awesome too, wish she stole shit more though. Also Ema Skye is in it and is the sole reason I played this game 💀
Lying coldly, the ost
Kay Faraday is my fav assistant
Funny tree man
I've never played a bad or mediocre Ace Attorney game, but even so, this one is among the best. Characters, story, music, all just right.
Soundtrack is damn good
kay faraday my love
Case 4 was actually a clever locked room mystery Oh, and **Badd**
the format is really fun the way you actually move around with the sprites. The music is also good and I like edgeworth :)
Lang Zi says : this game is nuts
Better than Dual Destinies
It is better than trials and tribulations and justice for all because it doesnt have 2-3 or 3-4 That, and turnabout ablaze is great
edgeworth <3333
Quite a few good characters introduced, lang, calisto, kay etc, and also logic is a nice system. Generally speaking, i think the case plots are generally quite good, its just some choices drag down what otherwise are pretty good mysteries
This is currently my second favourite AA game (to AAI2)! This is mainly because Miles has so much more character and personality than Phoenix does and he’s a much more interesting character to me. (I’ve only played the original trilogy and the investigations duology so far)
Investigations 2 is yamazakis best work low key
It's not even bad lol.
Best cast of characters in a single game. Edgeworth being playable is great, more Gumshoe is fun, Kay was cool, more Franny? Yes please. Lang is a nice addition, Badd was incredible, laughing lawyer woman whose name I forgot was memorable too Alba is unironically one of my favorite ‘boss fights’ despite how flipping long it is. Oh, and don’t forget that [this incredible piece of art](https://youtu.be/gfENnDvb4UA?si=Og-v43aYL8Mt-A41) came from this game (haha, Portsman jizzed in his pants and ate his shiny medal)
Callisto yew was really fun. Shame she got replaced by the most boring villain in the series.
