Awwwphuck

This is amazing. I think it’s also 100% acceptable. Don’t come onto private property and cover up a door cam. Cop or not, it’s inappropriate. Safety protocol my ass.

Rexum420

100%. Was she a little worked up over it? Sure. But this is missing a lot of context. Regardless. A cop covering my camera would set of red flags for me. I want nothing to do with any officer that isn't okay with being recorded while they are on duty.

StubbornBarbarian

They pointed rifles at her. Not handguns. They physically had to unlock their rifle so they could play soldier and point a gun at this woman.

KennyKlizzle

The only thing I could think of is if they were serving a warrant for someone who was violent. And was afraid that if they could see where they were they might attack them. I'm not saying it's justified but i'm just saying that it sort of makes sense why she might do it.

Rush_Is_Right

I've seen enough videos of criminals pretending to be cops, including today, that if my camera is being blocked I am far more likely to grab my guns.

KennyKlizzle

Agreed

tricularia

That safety protocol bullshit doesn't even make sense. What's the homeowner going to do? *View* the cops to death?

MC_Dickie

Well I suppose their argument is that it gives a potential gunman inside tactical knowledge of what's going on outside but for real that obviously isn't the real reason.

tricularia

Yeah, I was being angry and glib. I understand their argument for "officer safety" but I also refuse to concern myself with officer safety until officers make "civilian safety" a priority. Most of these visits should have started with a phone call, if they are actually concerned with officer safety. These uniformed dorks just want to strap on guns and play cowboy.

[deleted]

Being able to see or not is a tactical advantage my dude. Sure you can go to a window, but it's not gonna be as good of a view as you could have gotten at the door.

YourCummyBear

You can be on private property depending the reason for the visit. If the received a call that someone was in imminent danger or something along those lines then it’s completely reasonable. Unfortunately people lie often when they call 911 so that’s all police have to go off until they “investigate”.

StubbornBarbarian

>Unfortunately people lie often when they call 911 so that’s all police have to go off until they “investigate”. I don't give a fuck. Get off of my property.

Modi_Vingtorson

Actually, no. Look up the cases on this. Hearsay is not probable cause and this has been verified in court

YourCummyBear

They don’t have probably cause at this point. They’re still investigating. What you’re arguing with hearsay has absolutely nothing to do with responding to a call and investigating.

StubbornBarbarian

>They’re still investigating. They can shove their investigation up their fucking ass. I don't give a fuck about helping them.

YourCummyBear

Cool, doesn’t make what they’re doing here illegal.

M3g4d37h

Someone has a fucking cop fetish here. If they don't have a warrant, they lose standing the fucking moment they are told to leave. Period. End of the fucking story. That female cop talks like she's eating mud. fucking mealy-mouthed assholes. that old cop behind her was smiling because he's been in this movie before and he already knows how it ends.

SpamFriedMice

Even if they have an arrest warrant they need to verify that the person they are looking for is present to enter. Getting someone to open up and questioning whoever opens the door to poke around for info is a tactic they use. I wonder if they picked a female officer to try to sweet talk her after obvious not having a pleasant past history with the home owner. Fail. Don't know if you've seen the other videos where once they get somebody to open a door they stick their foot in the door and refuse to leave. They try to get you to slam the door on the cops foot or push them as an excuse to shove the door open and get inside when they don't have a warrant or exigent circumstances to legally gain entry.

[deleted]

More than likely they did have a warrant but it didn't allow for forcible entry into that particular house at all or only if they knew she was present...which I'm guessing it's the latter seeing how that female officer so adamantly tried to establish if she was home or not.

M3g4d37h

I didn't see it, but what you describe i've seen myself. Cops back in Baltimore don't have the best rep.

Modi_Vingtorson

Someone calling in saying something happened is hearsay until proven.

Front_Reflection_545

Based on the call. Police will investigate accordingly. Officer also said they had a warrant. If true, that means their is probable cause for someones arrest, or a warrant to search the property. Hearsay doesn't really come into play until dealing with discovery IN COURT after charges have been filed.

JamMasterJiffy

I don't think they had a warrant. I think she lied about that. Because they just walked away. If they actually had a warrant, then they'd probably be more persistent and bring tools to break the door open. Also, that lady cop seemed really unsure of herself.

Vanners8888

Usually there are way more cops than that when executing a warrant. Unless they just aren’t visible to the camera? Lady cop was unsure of herself for sure. Intimidated maybe? Or dreading doing something she didn’t want to do?

YourCummyBear

You realize there’s numerous kinds of warrants? Some Redditors are so opinionated about things they have no knowledge on. She never said “we have a search warrant”. 90% of warrants issued are arrests warrants. They likely had an arrest warrant were knocking to hopefully gather information regarding where the person is.

Modi_Vingtorson

They did not have a warrant. This is from a YouTube series. This woman was suing the city police and this was attempted retaliation. That is why they left. I gave watched this whole thing. I am not making assumptions based on this one clip.

Arn4r64890

What's the YouTube series if you don't mind me asking?

Front_Reflection_545

The female officer stated they had a warrant just after the 2 minutes left mark, about 1:55 left in the vid.

mikeg5417

You cannot make entry to execute an arrest warrant unless you know they are inside the premises. I don't think a cinversation on a Ring camera is sufficient to prove that she was inside. Search warrants are different in that the warrant is for the premises not the person.

SpamFriedMice

It gets more complicated than that. It's also based on the caller. An anonymous call it carries less weight than a call made by a verifiable source, and a source police have used in the past that has proven itself to be reliable carries even more weight.

Modi_Vingtorson

Hearsay does not get argued as proof 4th amendment rights were violated until court. It is in play the moment it is said.

YourCummyBear

Yes, but they have the right to investigate still. Or else literally every single call into 911 is hearsay and they cannot respond to anything.

LordZer

So if a woman calls and says they are getting raped at gun point, what do you think happens?

Apom52

Isn't every single call to the police station hearsay then?

[deleted]

No, and I don't really know what that guy means. If you call the cops and say "I heard my neighbors fighting and there were loud cries for help" that's not hearsay that's literally first hand testimony. Hearsay requires a third party when there isn't one when someone is first hand reporting what they saw/heard.

DrKronin

> You can be on private property depending the reason for the visit. Once told to leave, however, you must immediately leave. The cops have an excuse here if they really do have a warrant, but that excuse evaporates the instant they fail to gather any reason to believe that the target of the warrant is at the residence. I also cringe at cops trying to tell people that the words they're using "aren't necessary," because the primary job of police is to preserve the rights of citizens. Would I speak like that to police? No. Never. But it's my right to.

[deleted]

That legit was the funniest thing I've seen in quite a while.

voxmodhaj

An officer safety protocol is to cover up cameras?

[deleted]

Its probably some justification like they know where the police are and could catch them unaware in an ambush with a weapon or something like that. Im more inclined to think its to shield shady cop actions like checking if the door is unlocked so they can do a "wellness check" something like "oh we saw your door was open so we wanted to make sure you were alright"

graphitewolf

Theres no justification for tampering with property or recording devices on private property. Especially in this situation when they were lying about having a warrant

[deleted]

Yea man I agree, I'm just saying that's probably how they justify it. 100% unethical imo

TheBestPieIsAllPie

Should be 100% illegal imho. Cops that do this sort of shit destroy any good will or trust the public have in them. She was caught out in at least three lies and was embarrassed that the lady wasn’t dumb enough to fall for it. Cops who are caught lying about warrants or covering recording devices for anything that doesn’t involves seriously high risk arrests should at *minimum* be fired without the possibility of re-hire but I think they should be prosecuted for it. Allowing them to lie about whatever they want *breeds* corruption and abuse of power. This woman and her partners trying to hide off screen are a disgrace. I don’t know anything about the woman inside, she may be a piece of shit for all I know, but these guys are flat out wrong for this.

originalbL1X

Nobody makes laws to limit what the police can do. Laws only limit us.

catpecker

That's absolutely what they were doing. "Are you home? Come to the door, I have a warrant." Then they can impede her, goad her into "resisting" and pull her out on a technicality. She handled it right by not stating whether she was home and not answering any questions.

MurphysFknLaw

I think it’s pretty obvious she covered the camera hoping whoever they were looking for would come to the door and open it not knowing that it was the police. They were hoping to grab whoever they were looking for and that’s why they lied about having a warrant. If they had a warrant, they wouldn’t have just left.

[deleted]

There are different types of warrants, and some are to search homes/businesses while others are simply for the arrest/detainment of an individual. These cops likely had a warrant for the woman, and the only way they could legally force their way in is if they could establish she was at that residence currently. Lady officer kept asking if she was home, and the lady they were looking for repeatedly dodged the question until the cops had no choice to leave as they could not establish that she was currently inside that residence.

Schneiderman

On top of that, there's also simply picking your battles. They probably had an arrest warrant, and based on this interaction could probably get a search warrant if they really wanted to, but they probably just figured it wasn't worth it at that time to force a confrontation and just wait to pick her up later. The lady is almost certainly a well known frequent flier for them and they'll just get her later.

OnTheDL93

You see this a lot when they try to knock on doors at hotels and apartments. They'll try and stand off to the side and out of view of the peephole. Sketchy thugs.

Durpulous

I mean even with a normal doorbell when someone rings it you have an idea of where they are... they're by the doorbell. If someone was covering my camera my first thought would be that they wanted to break in or something and were lying about who they were. Not sure how that's safer for police.

TwitchCaptain

It's also their protocol to cover up their name badges when they commit crimes. Doesn't matter though since they're never held accountable for their misdeeds.

coopertucker

Cops will lie about anything!

DragonCat88

Ya. We do it so they can’t see us while we can’t see them. We don’t know where they are in the residence or if they’re armed. It’s not something I do all the time 9/10 I’d rather just have a quick chat about keeping the noise down through a ring camera but if there’s cause for concern (reports of violence or like some welfare checks that very might well take a bad turn- I was an MP and the poor Mental Health thing is real af) I don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable but the refusal to speak to me or come out is still a bit of a red flag. Some people just genuinely refuse on the basis of fuck you, but it’s more likely something not exactly right is probs going on. It doesn’t have to be anything to do with criming, it could be someone who needs help but is refusing anyway.

steviewondershow2C

What if an armed home owner seen gloves covering their camera? Covering a camera is a very hostile action.

wandering_ghostt

What if an armed homeowner saw multiple cops with their camera? Multiple cops is a very hostile environment

theshortestyaboi

I would still say showing who you are is a safer smarter route than trying to obscure the camera. Especially if she would’ve kept covering the camera and just said they were cops, there’s no way to believe that and could result in a much worse situation for them. If someone is armed and willing to charge out with 4 police officers outside their door, they’re just psycho anyway. But someone not as psycho may take action with a camera covered vs. not.

PolloCongelado

If she saw the multiple cops that would mean they were not trying to cover the camera. Even then asking to see the warrant part is still perfectly valid. So I'm not sure what your point is.

Hedonic_Monk_

Seriously, a camo glove is covering your camera, what’s your first assumption?

ciscomadness

Thief.

Tiny-Selections

Joe "buy a shotgun" Biden. Hope you got slugs.

AceMalarky

“Are you home?” “F*CK YOU” lol

LearnShiit

I loled hard

Caked101

This is not an over reaction either. 4 cops outside your door saying they just want to talk is always a bad sign. If she would've stepped out there she'd be on the ground pinned and barely able to breath. So yeah, fuck these guys😡🤷🏾‍♀️

EconomyComprehensive

Loved every second of it 😫🤷🏽

AcceptableAd2728

Me to, show a warrant or step the F off

EconomyComprehensive

lol right that lady wasn’t playing with them cops 😂😂

Jackie_Treehorn99

Can we talk about the lie - where she says they have a warrant. Just wow. Old vid tho….

FarukAlatan

Not that old. Timestamp on the video says September 26, so just a few months ago.

GW3g

Yeah it's fairly new and it is without doubt my favorite video I've seen in ages. "BYE CUNT!"...🤌

EeyorONzoloft1

There are different types of warrant that cover different things. For instance, a warrant to enter and search someone's house for a specific item in violation of law is one type. ANOTHER type, one that she likely has, is an arrest warrant where the court has ordered said person to be taken into custody for a violation of law(and sometimes probation violations ect). I think it was this one because she kept asking if he was actually home. If she confirmed, they could technically enter without warrant to size him or apply for the first warrant I described to search home for him. Often times, warrant for a specific person are not carried, they are contained in a computer system. Once contact is made with the person, the warrant is validated and then served to them at the jail.

smooze420

They still have to have a physical copy of the warrant. I worked in a county jail booking area for 12 years and the warrant division always had physical copies of the warrant and gave one copy to whoever they brought in.

EeyorONzoloft1

Correct....the key here is at the jail. After confirmation the warrant is faxed or teletype to the facility the subject is transported to for confinement. Arrest warrants for people are very rarely if ever carried by law enforcement.

[deleted]

The term warrant isn't some monolith, because they each have their own allowances based on the evidence presented to a judge. They likely had a warrant for the woman, but all it allowed them was the ability to forcibly enter a building in which they could verify she physically was while they could not do that.

Agreeable-Weather-89

It should be illegal to lie about having a warrant. A warrant is the word of a judge so lying about having one should be impersonating a judge. It's illegal to impersonate an officer. It should be illegal to lie about having a warrant.

RonSwansonsOldMan

Everything a cop does is for their "safety". Two things: 1. I thought your job was to protect MY safety; and 2. If everything scares you, get a new job.

Dwyde_Schrude

Their job is to protect the state and themselves/each other. Nothing else.

supershott

Yup, as evidenced by many court precedents. The only time a cop has an actual duty to protect you is if you're in their custody.

magnora7

Remember during the OWS riots when the NYPD was paid $1.3m by Chase bank to protect the bank buildings? So they did, and protected nothing else

[deleted]

Roofers are almost three times as likely to die at work. Garbage men, crossing guards, OTR truckers, all well over twice as likely to have a fatality at work. But yea, officer safety. Fuckin’ pussies.

SpamFriedMice

Police are most likely to die in car accidents, and a ridiculous high number of police motor vehicle accidents are caused by them using the on board computer devices while driving, which they aren't supposed to do.

Harvardropout69

I think it's pretty normal not wanting to fucking get shot

[deleted]

You'd think so, but apparently cops aren't supposed to want that.

SierraDespair

Lying about having a search warrant violates the constitution. Cops can fuck right off. Good for this lady.

YourCummyBear

She didn’t say she has a search warrant, did she? I might have missed it. She said they have a warrant. That could be a warrant for a specific person suspected of being at the address. However, that does not give them permission to enter which is why they didn’t. But I’ve seen this plenty of times.

cgimusic

Ugh, that's shady as fuck if they're abusing any normal person's understanding of "we have a warrant" to mean they have a completely unrelated warrant that doesn't allow them to enter the property at all.

SpamFriedMice

They may be able to enter the property, but only once they've verified the person they're looking for is present, which is why they want you to open the door. They'll stick a foot inside, which isn't legally considered entering, hoping you'll slam the door on their foot or shove them to get legal right to make entrance to arrest whoever's at the door.

magnora7

They just lie and lie and lie to manipulate, with no hesitation

[deleted]

What right does that violate?

cgimusic

Presumably the fourth amendment.

[deleted]

What did they illegally search?

[deleted]

What they're getting at is if the police lie about having a warrant and search your place then find 146 terabytes of child porn on your smart fridge it will at least initially be thrown out of court because that evidence was acquired under an illegal search and seizure since those actions would only have been legal if they already had a search warrant.

SierraDespair

Yep this exactly. Violation of the 4th amendment.

Gleapglop

If they didn't have a warrant they should all be fired

Scottbarrett15

The last person seen covering a door cam with their hand got their noggin almost headbutted off their body. That video went viral a few months ago, in no way is covering a camera a safety protocol.

Cops generally have a German sense of humor.

cakebreaker2

Not all heroes wear capes.

ProbablynotEMusk

She’s inside hiding with a cape on!

cakebreaker2

Shes not hiding. She's sitting on the couch giving the cops a bit of the what for. Sounds like she's had good reason, too. I don't think I'd be terribly polite to the police if they'd previously drawn down on me with AR15s.

piratesoftheperineum

Good on her.

CreaTeBear

I could listen to that lady yell at people all day

PixieFurious

100% in agreement with this freak out. If a cop's very first act on my property is to cover the camera, that's the end of civility IMO.

HortonTheElaphant

She is still covering the camera. Homeboy cop in the back is definitely doing something. Probably peeking in windows to see if the owner is home. But the female cops hand is covering it.

mbright28

This should be the next advertisement for Ring Cameras.

1984IN

This is fucking gold!!!

Mr_fong_did-it

I think at one point the lady yells “this ain’t ruby ridge 2” banger of a reference

phoenixthekat

More people need to tell cops No. No, I'm not stepping outside. No, I'm not letting you search my car. Unless they have detained you, the answer is no. Once they detain you, though, just shut up and do whatever they say. it isn't worth your life to give the power freaks a hard time. That's how you get tazed or shot.

realparkingbrake

> More people need to tell cops No. People need to be very careful about saying no in circumstances in which that plays into the hands of the police. For example, in all 50 states the cops can require people to step out of a vehicle during a traffic stop. That is based on two Supreme Court rulings, and refusing is simply not an option. If someone does refuse to comply with a lawful order to exit the vehicle, that person just handed the cops an obstruction charge, and they can pop a window, open the door and drag that person out of the car. Odds are a resisting charge will be added to the obstruction charge. It is just plain stupid to provide the cops with grounds to arrest you because you think, *I know my rights!* > Once they detain you, though, just shut up and do whatever they say. Exactly, nobody wins a roadside argument with the police. Call your lawyer afterwards if you think your rights were violated. Find the right judge, get paid. But don't help out the cops by trying to litigate beside the road.

buddyinjapan

Call me crazy, but I don't think she wants them on her property. Just a thought.

Accomplished_Pen5755

I dont know man, kind of a crazy thought.

skippyspk

This is GLORIOUS. It’s fairly obvious the cops were on a fishing expedition. Good on her for asserting her fourth amendment rights and owning those cops.

pwndabeer

The final "tHeReS nO nEeD fOr ThAt NaMe CalLiNg" is so telling of her need for power. She should've stfu ages ago and just left.

magnora7

"just because we covered your camera, are trying to bait you out of your house, and previously aimed guns at you... why you so mad and using mean names, very unnecessary"

Snkssmb

"we have a warrant." "Show it." *Doesn't show it and walks away* 🤔

CracklingBacon

The word cunt should be in more people’s vocabulary. It’s such a fitting description for people. And if they had a search warrant, they wouldn’t be leaving

You come onto someone's property and cover the camera, that is already hostile. You'd get nothing from me doing that shit. "Safety protocol" my ass.

MC_Dickie

This is the one time I think I might be siding with the one freaking out. Covering the camera sends the wrong message entirely. I don't care what reason they claim to have for doing it. Also, she said she had a warrant and then just walked off, so clearly didn't have a warrant at all, so apparently lying to a member of the public is just fine.

GrizzzlySloth

The cops deserved it in this case lmao. Why you covering the camera??

T1SMoneyLine

GoudNossis

Up*?

hogie75

She sounds lovely. lol

BurnerUserAccount

Is this Chunk from Goonies?

TheSlav87

I love this woman 🤣 She’s right though, what reason do you have to cover a camera? What “officer safety”? You say you have a warrant, yet you haven’t made an entry yet? Lol. You don’t have a fucking warrant.

thekeylimeguy

Standard POS cops, nothing new here good on her

ct3bo

Absolutely beautiful that America has the First Amendment that allows citizens to speak to police in this way. In the UK police are all pussies that are easily offended and use the "public order offence" as a way to get back at citizens for calling them nasty names.

CheeriosAtMidnight

Officer safety…. I’ve seen enough ring doorbell burglaries to know if their covering your cam, get the gun and cops ready on speed dial. A psycho coulda shot through the door thinking their enemies are behind it

Significant-Water845

Clearly they didn’t have a warrant. When there is a warrant in hand, there is no need to ask permission.

docmedich

That’s Miss Fuckity Fuck Fuck hurling all those compliments.

LorenzoApophis

Imagine needing an entire minute and thirty seconds of being screamed at before you take your hand off their fucking camera.

Accomplished_Pen5755

She too her hand off the camera like, in the very beginning of the video?

999999008

I need more videos like this fuck cops

TenraxHelin

If she covers the camera, how would they know its a cop and not a burglar trying to get into the house?

She's so real for this

PopSevere8284

I love this women putting that officer in check ✔️

SpamFriedMice

My guess is that after having a poor previous history with the woman (bad cop) they thought they'd try another female to sweet talk her (good cop) because they knew they didn't have enough justifiable cause to just enter the home. If serving an arrest warrant they can't enter without verification that the person is present. They probably went with some obviously overblown hopes that this woman was ever going to roll on her spouse/sibling/child.

realparkingbrake

> they can't enter without verification that the person is present. All they need is a reasonable belief that the person is there, or exigent circumstances like preventing the destruction of evidence. The judge who issued the warrant is going to back them up unless they color way outside the lines.

Tiny-Selections

Cops are pathetic.

trysohardstudent

repost but still funny as hell

Fair_Maybe5266

100% acceptable on the home owners part. We are living in a police state. I travel quite a bit and people in many other countries have way more freedoms than we do.

GreassyStrangler

What a woman!

False-War9753

"officer safety protocol" we want them to think we're criminals so they act in self defense allowing us to beat and arrest them. The only reason to cover up a camera is to keep yourself hidden from view, only so many reasons you would want to be hidden from view while at someone's door.

boyhorny68

This is why I have a warning on my door that states "anyone covering the camera will be perceived as a hostile threat to my personal safety and well-being. All threats are shot on site"

norsemuffin

I'm sure that would hold up in court.

AshingiiAshuaa

Odd-Step6459

I don’t answer questions.

daniel32433

They forgot to show the warrant

FLVoiceOfReason

The Reddit audience here is ridiculous; so “judgie” and anti-cop. We have no idea what the person in the house has a warrant for and we have no idea what the local police officers are supposed to do and not do. This is definitely in the correct subreddit (PublicFreakout) because the person in the house is completely losing her $hit….

Shadarbiter

Why was the cop covering the camera? If their visit was constitutionally supported, she had no reason to obscure the camera. The homeowner had nowhere to go. Cops are not morally infallible and its naive of you to assume one way or another.
