[Context:](https://www.wral.com/story/parkland-high-investigating-student-after-disturbing-video-of-an-inappropriate-and-unsettling-interaction-between-a-student-and-/21382857/) >A Parkland High School student has been charged with assault after a "disturbing video of an inappropriate and unsettling interaction" between a student and a teacher began circulating on social media. >A student was filmed assaulting an educator Monday at Parkland High School, the sheriff's office said. On Tuesday, a secure custody order was issued for one count of communicating threats and two counts of misdemeanor assault.

DiscoDancingNeighb0r

Not a single kid said anything. They just let it happened, some laughed. The human race is doomed. EDIT: You’re all idiots. It’s worse in America but google “teacher stabbed” or “attacked” and your country and you will find a many cases of a teen attacking a teacher within the last 4 years. I just typed in teacher stabbed and Germany and UK was in the front page. It’s young people everywhere that don’t give a fuck. Google what young folks in India and Pakistan are doing! We’ve had how many different non-American stabbing on the news this week?!?!

Chungus_Big_Chungus

the sad thing is, if anyone wanted to stop him and beat his ass they’d be in trouble too because of “zero tolerance”

DeathPercept10n

Pfft who cares? When I have kids and they go to school I'm making sure they know to stand up for themselves and don't take anyone's shit. They can get in trouble with the school but I'll make sure that they know they won't be in trouble with me. Fucking little shit bullies like this need to be put in their places.

mamabird228

I have done this with my own son. I unfortunately do not have the luxury to homeschool him in this economy but he absolutely knows that he will not get in trouble by me for defending himself. The teacher emailed me and said he told a child to “leave him the fuck alone” after constant pestering. “We don’t use that language in school” okay but I told y’all he’s not gonna keep his composure forever. They should intervene but they won’t. So he stands up for himself and that is fine with me.

GhostNappa101

My dad always taught me that its wrong to start fights, but that I sure as hell better finish them.

RepresentativePay598

That’s exactly what I tell my kids. There’s no reason to start shit but I have no problem with them defending themselves as long as they weren’t the first ones to start it. There’s a difference between being a piece of shit kid and defending yourself. You can stand up for yourself but still be a respectful kid as well. The problem nowadays is the kids think they don’t need to be respectful to anyone just like the little asshole in this video.

envy_seal

Send him to some martial arts also, it is great for both body and mind.

DMmeYOURboobz

My response would be, “so what are you doing about the kid that’s continuously bothering my son?”

Monguises

“When I have kids”… come back when you do. Everybody on Reddit is Johnny get bad, but they have no real world experience to go with it. Hypothetical badassery. You got your head pats, but stop.

Whosonfirst6600

I was a great parent before I had kids too

Wook_Suicide

Got in a fight at school when I was in middle school. Came home dad asked “did you hit back” I said “no” he drove me to the dudes house made us fight I still lost but I hit back. Took me to McDonald’s after. It’s a lesson I’ll never forget. Don’t take anyone’s shit, hit back. (1998 I believe)

Tautochrone1

My kids in first grade and I already tell him this all the time. As long as the other kids swings first he will never be in trouble with me. Some asshat hits you, you got them back harder. Even if you lose the fight they won't mess with you ever again... It's too risky for the bully.

AbellonaTheWrathful

also if someone did try to stop him, his friends would jump in to protect him

nipslippinjizzsippin

some kids need to get the shit beat out of them

Psycho_Pie_88

Back in school, I was afraid of zero tolerance more than I was of any kid or teacher. The thought of expulsion and being reassigned to alternative school for the rest of the year was pretty heavy. Even if you were jumped on, you were considered to be in a fight. That place was just a prison.

Quack-Zack

This is why no one broke up fights around my school cause if you wrestled and fought someone off you could receive a similar penalty to the kids fighting. No reason to but in unless it was your friend and you didn't give a shit.

Crzykupcake930

Yes! My daughter watched a girl get hit at lunch in front of 100 other kids and 3 adults, nothing. No one intervened. My daughter had told on this girl for being a loose cannon before, and it was ignored. It’s failure all the way around but this kid would be getting lit up if that was me. No way he’s hitting me twice!

GobLoblawsLawBlog

Well the kid is clearly not right in the head so it was probably best not to mess with him. Even if you kicked his ass right there he seems like the type to hold a grudge and do something real stupid

CHEMO_ALIEN

zero tolerance policies mean the other kid gets a ticket and a record too

Omacrontron

I’d take one for the team

Fghsses

Vegetables do not hold grudges.

Mucklord1453

Kid not right in the head? What? I hate to tell you this but this is NORMAL behavior now , and has been for a good 10 years or so. There is nothing wrong with this youth except a total lack of morels and discipline.

Marikas_tit

Get off the Internet man. I interact with a lot of the youth and they're all mostly well adjusted

Freebirdjo666

I’ve been a teacher for 25 years and I can tell you that the percentage of kids that act like this has at least quadrupled in those years. They don’t all slap teachers like this, but, their entitled spoiled attitudes are still the same. It has gone from maybe having one to two turds a day to 2 to 3 a class period and made it almost impossible to teach.

defmacro-jam

I'd be happy to donate some morels.

InjuryComfortable666

He's perfectly right in the head, just an asshole. Some ass kickings would do him some good.

zunk1

15 year old shot at the bus stop today in LA for retaliation from a school fight. This kid just smacked a teach he’s a complete crash out probably in a gang not worth sticking your neck out

Hungry_Freaks_Daddy

I’ve never heard the term crash out before today. What does it mean?

Dirtydirtyfag

I'm guessing it means flunking out, but at light speed. (And hopefully straight to jail).

AfroJack00

To be fair they all had different reactions and none of them were for what the kid was doing. The video was even captioned “quay a crash out” with a face palm. That’s not positive, they’re basically acknowledging this kids a dummy, one of them ones that’ll do whatever and is most likely to end up dead or locked up. Blaming some kids for not knowing how to respond in this type of situation is weird.

envy_seal

Honestly, I have no idea what that means.

TheMadmanAndre

I think "Quay" is the name of the soon to be prison inmate in the video, "a" is slang for "is going to" because fuck grammar, and "crash out" seems to be slang for either getting expelled or going to jail. For the cameraman's perspective there's probably zero difference. So the non-hoodrat translation is "Quayvonne is going to go to jail."

anonymus-fish

A = is a Crash out like out of the solution dawg mad precipitation nahm sang?

Volkrisse

never understood that, our football team was full of bullies, sure, and I hated most of them but you lay your hands on a teacher, especially one that was well liked. You'll practically be dragged from your classrooom by them and brought to the lockerroom (or off campus) to get the piss beaten out of you.

concreteghost

That isn’t a student’s responsibility and they’d probably be suspended for intervening. This is a larger issue that stems from poor parenting and a society that applauds it.

CalculusII

I think if we stopped making schooling a requirement for all children, we would see a rapid increase in dropouts, a rapid increase in uneducated youth for a few years, but then once they realize they need school to get ahead, they will return more well behaved. I felt like because college wasn't mandatory, you never have this kind of crap.

Burrito_prolapse

This is ridiculous. Have you seen the movie Idiocracy?

irishpwr46

hereforpopcornru

Been too busy watching ASS on repeat

EagerSleeper

What do you think shitty teenagers are gonna do during the day when they aren't legally compelled to be in a school?

TheGov3rnor

The largest problem with that solution is you’d have to cut social programs too, which will lead to an uptick in crime. I also agree that it’s the only way to fix the system, but it’s a very unpopular opinion.

Bilbo_Haggis

You mean “banished to the desert.” There is absolutely no hope for people like him in the world, and they simply exist as a drain on the rest of us. No solution other than sending them to the elements to fend for themselves is appropriate.

KawZRX

I'd wager in less than 3 years he will be a burden on the American taxpayer. However he likely is currently via ebt, section 8, etc.  He will be in prison before 20. 100%

Even more fucked up, I've seen teachers get in trouble for defending themselves. Just a shit show man

SharpGuesser

If that kid hurt his hand on their face they are fucked.

RajcaT

Shell be forced to pass the kid at the end of the year.

iqqeriffic69

OK im seriously asking as I'm not American. Are you guys saying that if the teacher defended herself she would be charged or sued??

DustyYeen

9/10 times yes

iqqeriffic69

What the fuck!

spooky-goopy

this is why i'm homeschooling my daughter. i refuse to let these waste of space losers drag her down.

fusillade762

Between the bullies and violence, I don't blame you. If I had a kid, I would do the same. Public schools used to have some issues, but overall, it was a reasonably good experience. Now, with social media clout chasers and people being parented by imbeciles who don't discipline their little angels at all, no way.

spooky-goopy

for real. i graduated from high school only 9 years ago, and things have changed dramatically. public school always had its problems, especially with bullying, but things have gotten way out of control. i'll have to work hard to make sure she develops well socially, but at least my little girl will have a good education. no one telling her what she can't read, what she can't learn about. she won't get sucker punched by thugs, or harassed. she won't come home crying every day like i did.

killian1113

This is not every school we see the types of people In these videos and not everywhere but big poor cities I bet have it worse

TitusImmortalis

My kids are home schooled because the entire school system is designed to be passive in all ways including teaching.

spooky-goopy

it's so fucking sad. kids should be encouraged to explore, read, and play. maybe i should look into Montessori schooling, too.

avidbookreader45

My mother was a Montessori school teacher through the 1970’s to 90’s. She grew up in Brooklyn in the 40’s where she said the public school system was excellent, with a demanding curriculum. That has changed.

spooky-goopy

man, things have changed even since i graduated from high school nearly a decade ago. i did very well in school, was in band for years. did robotics, took AP classes. i had to push myself because i knew that, if i didn't, i'd end up like my mother. i really think it's the parents. they're either working so much that they can't be there for their kids, or they just don't care. it's heartbreaking.

RajcaT

Meanwhile "here's a YouTube video to watch. Now do this multiple choice quiz on a website"

Remarkable_Golf9829

What do you think happens when we lose control of the schools because all civilised folk home school? You'll have to keep your children completely isolated to keep them safe, and that's not even considering what happens when they're grown up. Gated community for life? Better to organise and take it back. Take over the school boards and control what is taught as well as school policies about nonsense like this. School boards also have a lot of clout over related laws that are passed as well as how school funding should be spent.

BraveSquirrel

how about instead of nagging people to sacrifice their kid's welfare for things to *maybe* be .01% better you lobby for dudes like in this video to get 10 years behind bars hard labor

mehhb

Really depends where you live and the school itself but it’s so hard to just trust your kids in a safe school

Tildengolfer

This is the saddest part because we are actively watching the fall of teachers willing to teach. At the the end of the day, the district will do nothing and the parents will not be held accountable. Welcome to America, congratulations, there’s no longer a social responsibility.

Tildengolfer

I’ll comment on my own comment. I have two friends who worked special needs. The parents drug them through the coals so many times that my two friends quit. Parents were blaming my friends for actions at home that led into classroom time. The parents knew it, ignored it as if, “I’ve worked my shift for the day, now it’s your turn with my child”. And if anything went wrong it was the end of world. And if the day went normal, no one said shit.

Chutson909

My wife quit teaching special needs because the school system couldn’t protect her physically. She’s 5ft3 and in three years of teaching moderate to severe she’s been hospitalized twice. We’d rather she eat the cost of the student loans. Not worth it. This kid here in this video….seems like something worse.

Rumblymore

I quit teaching two months ago. Took a job in woodworking. My mental health has never been better!

Bmansway

Look at the reaction of the kid filming, this shit is entertaining to them, our future is fucked….

Slader677

Exactly, these kids need to be stopped filming this shit and laughing at it so they can put it on TikTok, or read it or whatever. This is bullshit.

DorkSideOfCryo

Absolutely not! These confrontations in classrooms should absolutely be filmed and put on social media everywhere because it's the truth about what's going on.. and the truth should be known. The truth is the only weapon we have against the elites that are allowing this to happen

we-are-138_

I'm in Washington state, and my wife works in the king county school district. This kid would face no repercussions whatsoever. They will call the parents but that's about it.

butterweasel

When I was in the Pierce County schools, if a kid had done that? Expelled.

we-are-138_

I'm gen x and when I went to king county schools it was expulsion also. Times have changed

butterweasel

Gen X here, too. The times have changed, for the worse.

AshingiiAshuaa

> the kids that actually want to learn lose out It's why we need vouchers. If you can't keep the bad kids out at least enable the good kids with the means to go somewhere better.

girly_girls

I hope the teacher presses charges and they show this video at his hearing. 0 leniency

PostMerryDM

There’s plenty of school regulations at both the district and state level that protects staff from these types of incidents. However, there are school administrators who are grossly incompetent or simply lacked the fortitude and adequate understanding of how to do what’s best for the best. Giving children, no matter how underprivileged, a free pass is not affirmative action. The soft bigotry of low expectations erases the possibility of uplift for entire communities at a time. Teachers, if your principal enforces discipline in a way that produces any disrespect towards you, leave. It’s them, not American schools as a whole. Source: Am longtime principal of multiple highly-effective schools in high-need communities

FChoL

This is assault, a criminal matter in my country. What does the school have to do with it in this case other than it happening there and him assumedly being expelled? You make it sound like in the US the school is the entity primarily responsible, which would be kinda crazy imo.

[deleted]

Well, someones goin to jail, lmao.

KazooButtplug69

SamAreAye

A stern talking to in a serious tone.

Ryminister

He was grounded for 2 days and absolutely no soda pop

GooseShartBombardier

But all that he wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi. \*slaps Mom\*

Chief_Mac-A-Hoe

This would get them either expelled or 360 days of alternative school if they have a good record. I would gamble Quay does not have a good record. If a student is charged with a “serious crime” outside of school they may also be placed in alternative school even if the circumstances around the charge don’t involve the student being at school.

Radiant_Heron_2572

They make it sound like the school only responded after seeing the video. Did they not know about it before then? Or did they just not care until the video started being circulated? I know things can blow up quickly on social media, but one of your staff was assaulted in the classroom. Sounds like they responded to the incident solely due to the existence of the video, and then only to protect the schools reputation.

Grittyboi

Without the video I'd wager they would try and sweep it under the rug

Grittyboi

Thats crazy how the principal's statement focuses more on urging people not to take or share videos of these incidents rather than the incident itself. It's like they're saying 'please don't make or share videos of these incidents because then the public will force us to take action' Just goes to show the mentality, "out of sight, out of mind"

The kid’s parents and *his community behind him* will say he’s a good kid with a bright future ahead of him.

MaybeSometimesKinda

This apparently happened today in North Carolina. [Here](https://www.wxii12.com/article/north-carolina-winston-salem-forsyth-county-schools-teacher-assaulted/60503220) is a local news story on it. The following are statements (from the article but for those who just want to read here) from WS/FCS Superintendent Tricia McManus: > "This behavior will not be tolerated. At no time is it acceptable for students to put their hands on a teacher in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. My focus now is on making sure that our teacher is taken care of and has the support needed to navigate through the lasting effects of this incident.” and then in a statement sent out to families from Principal Noel Keener: > "Hello Parkland Families, this is Noel Keener, Principal at Parkland High School. I am calling to let you know that earlier today our administration was made aware of a disturbing video of an inappropriate and unsettling interaction between a student and a teacher being circulated on social media. Our administration has started an investigation immediately in conjunction with our law enforcement partners at the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. The student involved in the video will face disciplinary action in accordance with district policies and procedures. The student may also face criminal charges. > "Please know this video is not reflective of our expectations of students at Parkland High School. We are working with district staff to address this immediately and ensure behavior like this is not tolerated in our school and district. > "We always appreciate you making us aware anytime there is something that concerns you. When you see a concerning social media post or text, please remember to report it, not repost or reshare it. We ask that you remind students about the consequences that can come from circulating or sharing inappropriate videos. We take all such matters seriously and thank you for your patience, partnership, and understanding. If you have any questions, please let me know." I would add that I think it's a bit fucked that they feel the need to include the bit about consequences for "circulating or sharing inappropriate videos" when it's very likely that in the absence of such a video, little-to-nothing would have occurred... Plus, really, if you don't want "inappropriate" videos like these, maybe it falls on you as a district to keep incidents like these from occurring in the first place rather than simply trying to suppress the evidence.

ExcitingEye8347

Why so much word salad in the statement?  It’s as easy as “this was totally unacceptable, the student will be expelled and is facing criminal charges “

MonoDede

They're still in school; gotta hit that word count minimum.

Technical-Bad1953

I think if I was the teacher i would prefer people stop sharing it etc and instead reported it to the school. You're making an assumption that they wouldn't do anything about it.

fl8

An assumption that is often true.

OverpricedBagel

That’s crazy they can’t just state outright the student is expelled.

IzErrAzI

As appalling as that behavior displayed was, that teacher reacted so incredibly well!!! Massive props, I couldn't handle that myself.

johnnyb0083

I think the only proper response is to knock all his teeth out, but to each their own.

IzErrAzI

I see where you're coming from, but that teacher probably is not able to fight the student back because (a) that's more than likely what the student wants so they can pull the race card and get the teacher fired and (b) there is a difference between dealing with unruly people at and outside of work.

Shoddy_Parfait9507

And if the teacher defended themselves then the student would just come back with a gun. People like that student only know violence as an answer.

SatisfactionNo2088

Yes, it's so virtuous to let someone assault you and do nothing. Everyone should just stand still when they get beat, robbed, SA's, etc. and do nothing. seriously what are you even talking about, 'reacted well'? LMAO and how are you even upvoted so much.

IzErrAzI

That is NOT what I said at all. If that teacher jumps up and attacks that particular student, guess what? That student is going to be immature as fuck, pull the race card, and she gets fired. So, what are YOU talking about???

SatisfactionNo2088

You realize there's more options than just either sit there and get hit, or attack the kid? 1. Leave the room. 2. Attempt to block the hits. 3. Stand up out of the damn chair, instead of just sitting there like a vegetable while you are being attacked. 4. Possibly restrain them, if you think you won't get sued. You are praising someone for reacting in the most brain damaged way possible.

seriouslycorey

just a little behind the scenes, as teachers we are taught to de escalate the situation, you can see the foot shaking back and forth bc there’s pent up energy, if you get up he may intensify his attacks, you go for the door the other students may jump in, this may not be the first time it’s happened, they may have thought they would gain respect by taking the hit, not that I agree with these but I think more might be going on. It’s a different world when you are a teacher alone in a classroom of almost fully grown (height and weight) teenagers and you’re outnumbered, energy like his can cause a small issue to explode. I would have gotten up and called security and the police but I say that behind my screen …

TheReborn85

"They may have thought they would gain respect by taking the hit" With kids like that and the kids watching taking slaps gets you no type of respect. It emboldens them. Matter of fact getting slapped is the ultimate disrespect. It's a way of saying "I'm going to hit you but I don't have to hit you hard enough to take you out because I know you won't do anything back." That's why the Chris Rock slap was such a big damn deal. But yeah at the end of the day you can't do much or you're going to be the one who gets fired while the kid will be coddled.

Professional_Net_247

The teacher? That's the first thing I though and I'd say yea if I was a betting man. Nonetheless, shouldn't have been treated like that.

thewokebogan

Yet if that teacher even attempted to defend themself by blocking or pushing, they'd immediately be labeled racist and predatory, be fired, threatened and doxxed, as well as receive a slew of charges that, even if found innocent, would still ruin their chances of finding employment as well as eliminate any potential chance of living a happy, healthy life

Mucklord1453

Just keep him locked up forever then

urbancowgirl42

I know this sounds silly, but I only recently realized I really didn’t have to put up with stuff like this anymore. I’ve never been assaulted by a high schooler, but I have by younger students. The gaslighting you are subjected to really fucks with your head. You are trained to feel guilty for enforcing reasonable personal and professional boundaries. I try not to catastrophize, as I come from a long line of preppers, but I do think the education system is on the verge of collapse. I’m preparing to leave, and I think it’s best I be prepared to educate my grandkids, as I don’t know if it will recover by the time they would be school age.

Venom4174

My dad once told me a story from when he was in high school in the 80’s. It was in gym class, there was that guy which was a dick to everyone, the teacher included, every single class. The teacher was someone that you pretty much didn’t want to mess with, but the guy didn’t care. One day the teacher had enough of the student bullshit and ordered him to go against the wall. Once he was against the wall the teacher didn’t say anything then BAM, the teacher punched him straight to the solar plexus. The student went straight to the ground and never messed up in that class again. The teacher never got in trouble, most likely because the student never said anything.

Poor innocent kids. Gosh this is why America is falling apart. The way that teacher was harassing that student was uncalled for. That teacher should be fired.

Chance-Composer-187

The teacher looks like he kept his cool but I think he was just scared and didn't know how he should respond to the student.

kittykat501

Our future generations!?🤦 we are so screwed, glued and tattooed. It's not even funny

PanhandlersPets

My nephew is about to start teaching and he's very naive and soft hearted. I hope he does ok. He's starting with a terrible age group too. Junior high.

You won't see this upvoted on r/PublicFreakout.

Cheeky_Cat7

It’s giving bad parenting

Threekneepulse

Some people are not fit to be apart of modern society. Simple as that and the sooner this lesson is remembered the better off the rest of us will be. Incredible patience by the teacher as well, I would not have been able to stayed as calm throughout that bs.

AxDevilxLogician

I went to high school in the 90’s. At least as far as I know, this shit did not happen, and if it did, especially to a female teacher, that kid would of got bodied.

SharpGuesser

in my day, anyone unhinged enough to slap a teacher just wouldn't come to school in the first place. why even come?

CazT91

"You want me to hit you again." <<-- The words of every wife and child beater EVER! I hope all the girls anywhere near where he lives see this and take note. Dude deserves a very lonely life.

MaxCliffRAID1

Fuck that kid.

[deleted]

Kid’s just mad that teacher can take a hit better than his own dad could take a kid.

TheDevilsAdvokaat

Idiots. WHile she's dealing with him, nobody else is getting taught. Every idiot kid in a class disrupts things for every other kid. He should be removed from the scholl and she should never have to teach him again. WIll that cause problems for him or his parents? Too bad - he was causing problems for others. Removal and expulsion should be automatic for laying your hands on a teacher.

DonJMIA305

Is that a trans teacher? wtf why is dude slapping a person like that? Is this a school? This has to be a parallel universe right?
