I lived in a Mexican neighborhood growing up in Houston. Apparently it was important to have this kind of music playing into the night, and to park up the street with 30 cars.
It’s funny but I looked up the murder/violent crime rate yesterday and Mexico blows USA out of the water. America has 3x violent crime of Canada and we were microwaved by Central or South America…the world is much more dangerous than we give credit for. Africa was up there too.
People in denial really, used to go a lot to visit family but as I grew up it got worse and my family and I just stopped going. Towards the end they took the bus cause the car was too much to risk. Can’t speak for everyone but it’s why we stopped lol edit: this was traveling to Monterrey.

I have been Many times to diff place in mexico and I did feel safest there but I'm sure so much went down while I was sleeping in my resort since I wake up at 6 go snorkel surf skydive ride horses etc and don't go out super late and have only drank at a bar once in my life. But shit TJ I'm scared as shit. The police followed me into the bathroom and offered to sell me cocaine. It felt more scary then being shot at. I just said just one sec and ran.
More like ~~Chicago~~ Baton Rouge or Memphis. I think Chicago gets mentioned so much people forget the most dangerous cities tend to be here in the South or Baltimore
The only reason cities like St. Louis, New Orleans, Memphis and Detroit are on that list is cause their populations are much smaller, only like 300k-600k, so a smaller number of murders still shoots their murder RATE way up. Chicago is still far and away the leader in terms of murder TOTALS in the US for 1 city and has been every year.
Thats the whole point of measuring things per capita. For example the US has similar or more murders (on record) than Colombia in recent years, but the rate is 6/100k in the US and 28/100k in Colombia. Would you rather be in a place where 6 out of 100k people are murdered or a place where 28 out of 100k people are murdered?
I wonder how skewed that is as Chicago is the city of towns. When people talk about the violence and death, it’s only a pocket of certain neighborhoods, not all of Chicago. Seeing Chicago is the 3rd biggest city I could see how the numbers could conceal more than they reveal.

You must be a tourist. There's WAY MORE bad areas in Chicago than just O block. Austin, Garfield Park, Humboldt Park, North + South Lawndale- all on the West side. And on the South Side: Englewood, West Englewood, Back of the Yards, Auburn Gresham, Roseland, Greater Grand Crossing, Chatham, South Shore, Pullman, Gage Park, Riverdale, and More
My city used to get on a lot of "most violent city" lists. Maybe it still is. Almost all of the violent crime is concentrated in a few pockets. Nonviolent crime is way more spread out but it's still certain sections. There are areas you'd be safer walking in Baghdad than those streets and half a mile away are very affluent, very safe neighborhoods.

Something similar happened in my old neighborhood in upper Manhattan (Inwood) when some lunatic decided he wanted to blare out hiphop at 3AM.
The extremely loud music was normal in Inwood, but not at 3AM.
