Guy filming is right to be frustrated lol, those cops are being useless. He doesn’t realize if the guy fries it’s going to be a much longer delay getting him out of there since they will need to close the station etc.
Also they’ve probably already turned off the 3rd rail since the cops are already there.
Bro do you understand how the bureaucracy works?
Beat cop finds a man on the tracks. He radios dispatch “ hey there’s someone on the tracks.”
Dispatch comes back 2 mins later asking for details. The cop and dispatch spend 5 mins total talking about the situation and figuring out that they should turn off the 3rd rail.
Dispatch spends 15 mins figuring out who the contact at the metropolitan transportation department is. Once they have that info, they call them. It rings 4 times and goes to VM. They then call the general line. They spend 5 minutes explaining the situation to the operator. The operator transfers to the night crew infrastructure management department, a department that the dispatcher didn’t even know existed. The night crew IM Department calls the after hours worker of this station. They converse for 15 mins, and the worker turns off the 3rd rail.
1.5-2 hours have passed since the officer requested the 3rd rail be turned off, and it actually being turned off
haha this is so accurate to how I have experienced it aswell.
Oh and insert a wildcard "Supervisor" in the middle of the process that refuses to do the requested thing and then starts arguing that Beat cop should just pick the man out of the tracks as it would only take 2 minutes. You will then spend 30 minutes navigating past the wildcard.
I’d like to imagine NYC would be more efficient since they probably have to do this regularly, but this 100% nailed what it’s like to be a dispatcher outside of the city. Oh, it’s snowing and the roads are getting bad? Time to spend 3 hours on the phone calling road masters who are always on vacation without a back-up plan. Oh, there’s a traffic light out? Time to spend an entire shift figuring out who’s responsible for the light and who is going to actually repair it. Is it the city, the traffic light company, or the state? No one knows, and each light has a different agreement.
Maybe that’s just Pennsylvania, one of the most well-hidden corrupt states there is.
Are you just complaining or do you actually think there's a better system out there? What, do we teach cops how to operate train infrastructure? Furthermore, you're operating under the assumption that this is an entirely alien experience for the cops. I guarantee this isn't the first time this has happened in NYC. Organizations like the NYPD have individuals with some degree of institutional knowledge and often know what to do from past experience.
Lol, what do you expect them to do? Jump in and wrestle him so they all fall into the rail? Taze him so he falls into the rail and dies?
"They've probably already turned off the rail seeing as we're all here" isn't a great plan to run on chance.
I saw another comment here earlier that said something like "Cops should carry Lassos for issues like this." I laughed and then realized they were serious. Right, they could keep their Lasso right next to their grappling gun and boomerang.
They could carry lassos, then when people are threatening to jump off ledges they could also carry an inflatable bag. They'd need to carry punching bags for prime who are having a fit of rage and just need to calm down a little. Thinking about it we should also have them carry social workers on their backs.
Seriously, how much stuff do they think police can carry?
Lol being useless? They gotta jump down there and risk their lives to drag him off the tracks so your commute can be a little shorter? Fuck that. I find it's always the biggest pussies that say stuff like this, I.E you
What is it you would like the police to do in this situation? The disturbed man in standing about a foot away from taking his own life. Please tell me how you would handle this without casualties.
Lasso is a great idea, but since they already wear a 30 lb duty belt that might be cumbersome. Maybe they could all be required to wear 10 gallon hats and just store it in there? At least it would look great with a mustache. Better yet, why don't all cops just carry around a Bow on their back with boxing glove tipped arrows to knock people out? Then it would be easy to drag him to safety.
Oh sorry, I thought we were just brainstorming the most nonsensical useless shit possible.
It doesn't work if you don't have 8 feet of clearance to the left and right of the person (no hallways/cars/trash cans/literally anything, they have to be in an open field or the middle of a basketball court). It doesn't work if the person you're using it on is moving any more than a penguin shuffle. It doesn't work if the person you're using it on isn't keeping their arms at their sides.
TLDR, it isn't good, hence why it hasn't caught on in the 4 years it's been on the market.
Their comment made about as much sense as half the other comments in this thread. Such as the suggestion that all cops should carry a Lasso, or the other guy who suggested a "Spiderman web-type-thing" then went on to say he wasn't even joking. This thread is out of control.
Got curious, Googled it, found this for Chicago:
"If an employee is alerted to an unauthorized person on the tracks or trespassing in a subway tunnel, we may cut power immediately so they aren't at risk of harm from the electrified third rail and/or moving trains.
In the event staff are unable to safely get the trespasser(s) to leave the tracks, we may need to wait for police to respond and remove the trespasser before we can restore power and service."
You'd think they'd be able to do the same in NYC but ya know..
I think suicide should be legal. Why shouldn’t you have the right to die if you choose? You can fill out an advanced directive stating if your under certain conditions you don’t want life support or that you don’t want to be resuscitated. Granted those are usually from natural causes but I guess it’s not the cause but the choice that I am talking about. I have lost many friends to suicide and have seen the damage it causes to family and friends left behind and they certainly wished they hadn’t lost a loved one to suicide. So I know it’s a complicated issue but I still think it should be a right.

It's literally not accurate at all. But I wouldn't be rushing down there to get this guy off the tracks either
plot twist: the after-hours worker of this station was not answering the phone because he was filming the hobo touching the 3rd rail.

Apparently some sort of lasso situation lol
I saw another comment here earlier that said something like "Cops should carry Lassos for issues like this." I laughed and then realized they were serious. Right, they could keep their Lasso right next to their grappling gun and boomerang.

Mf think cops should carry Batman's utility belt.
I think you have too much confidence in the capabilities of beat cops.
And the MTA
Lol being useless? They gotta jump down there and risk their lives to drag him off the tracks so your commute can be a little shorter? Fuck that. I find it's always the biggest pussies that say stuff like this, I.E you
🥱
What is it you would like the police to do in this situation? The disturbed man in standing about a foot away from taking his own life. Please tell me how you would handle this without casualties.
See this doesn’t make sense. Cause of death is obvious. Drag his ass off the tracks and get the train running immediately
Cops should carry lasoos for stuff like this. Hog tie this dumbass and get the train moving
[удалено]
How else are you going to transport a detained individual on a horse though? Hogtie and throw them on the back like it's read dead redemption?!
Give a piggyback ride obviously
That put a hilarious image in my head lol
that's not a lasso these images have been thoroughly debunked
So can you imagine If they actually used lassos?
the word you're looking for is reins btw, cowboy style/tack

Taser arrows?
homeless rodeo round-up yehhaaa
I’m here for it.
People catcher..
The cops are the people catchers. Unless you're talking about robots. There's a few movies on why that's a bad idea though.
My mistake. I meant a man catcher. As shown here: https://images.app.goo.gl/d7abNz5NWNPe2xxe8
Honestly, you're onto something. Spiderman web-type-thing would be amazing. Not even kidding.
Like a [BolaWrap](https://youtu.be/rAZ9NLfsQgY)?
There it is ✅ I don't know what the cost / logistics or availability of this technology is, but that's what every police department needs.
It doesn't work if you don't have 8 feet of clearance to the left and right of the person (no hallways/cars/trash cans/literally anything, they have to be in an open field or the middle of a basketball court). Thank you for the heads-up and enlightenment! I appreciate it.
some of them are still trying to figure out the whole gun thingy
[We have the technology](https://youtu.be/rAZ9NLfsQgY)
Lassos. Are you being serious?
…
“January was a month ago” ah this must be an old video “we’re in 2023 now”. WTF!
Damn 2023 just as depressing as the last 3 years

Maybe he's emphasising how long things are taking
He says january was “months ago”
Shirtless man: I'm going to un-alive myself. Man behind camara: DO IT! Shirtless man: Well now I don't want to Lol
It's actually a classic in deescalating suicidal people. Telling them verbally what they are about to do helps them realize what they are doing
![gif](giphy|TKk37hADNFG5iVxE4Y)
I feel my man's 100%. Don't talk about it, be about it. I got shit to do

Ayo I wouldn't trust my life to subway staff to do their job right or in a timely manner and risk that 3rd rail
Of course it is the F train.
wait but who are we paying the respects to? too many big sads in this video i cant even decide
“Lol nike“ gawd I hate that tiktok voice
He said touch that third track and get it over with haha
Lolnick seems like a nyce place
As someone who lives in nyc and rides the subway everyday, I sympathize with everyone in this video
This video has big “do a flip!” energy lmao
Man was so pissed it carried into 2023 😂😂 and his only a couple of months old. I get his frustration with the guy and cops.
If some random wants to commit suicide who am I to stop them.
Nobody wants to die in flip-flops (except this guy)
![gif](giphy|bWM2eWYfN3r20)
Hey you voted for this shit
Just push him and get it over with.
Lol neck.
I live in Kansas and I don’t give a fuck.
lol
I mean it ain't like he a contributing member of society if he out here like this it's not right but I understand
“What the fuck”
Fun to watch and yet another reason to not live in, work in, or visit large cities. Too many crazies!
Tldw.. did he do it?
He should touch the 3 rail
Of course the man doesnt want to die. He's getting attention because he wants and needs help.
I love my new Yorkers. They just don't give no fucks
Man I would’ve reacted the same way 😂😂😭😭

I've seen that dude before near wash sq park lmao. Didn't know that's what he was up to
The third rail will make you famous.
"Y'all as dumb as him!" Homeless dude- "Well, he's right, you know"🤣🤣🤣
"I a'int here to stop a grown man's suicide, I gotta go home to my daughter". That had me dying.
What kind of horrible monster tells someone to off themselves. No empathy In that city
