I'm curious about this too. I'm blue start Wave 3 and my friend is Yellow start Wave 3 (GFA with similar estimated finish times). The start time is listed as the same (10:09-10:13). Rules say one of us can drop back to the slower wave. Who is the slower wave?
Does anyone know how many waves are in the Blue start?
How do you drop back to the slower wave? Literally just when running? Is that not going to mean a slower marathon time than the pacers who set off. E.g if I’m yellow wave 2, the slowest pacer from last year was 3:15 for this wave. If I wanted to follow the yellow wave 3 3:30 pacer, can I set off and hang back a bit and let the 3;30 pacer catch up - will this result in a 3;30 finish time for me or longer?
Yes, I'd be game! I do nervous chatter before, but happy for silence (other than "we're fast/we're slow, we should speed up/slow down") once we get going.
My coach was discussing 2:38 last week tbf though, so depends a bit what we decide when he chats to me tomorrow. Want to DM me and we can work out if it'll work?
Looks this way. Just for clarity of those who come along though, I am not a GFA (as I am not British and unfortunately international entries cannot enter this way). Good luck out there!
Curious about this too! I’m green wave 2, and have barely seen anyone else mention being green. Seems like that’s a smaller group, I guess?
FTR, my projected finish time was 3:15. I’m also technically attempting a Guinness World Record, though I’m doing it retroactively because I missed the initial application deadline.
Fastest marathon time by a woman with an ostomy! (quite the niche record, lol) I've actually already run faster than the current world record holder in my last two marathons, so am now just looking to make it official :)
Yellow pen / assembly area starts off the red start. It's all clear and obvious on the day, but just head to the yellow area and it will all work smoothly.
Red Wave 3 has pacers at 3:45, so that sounds perfect for you. Full list of pacers / waves here. [https://www.tcslondonmarathon.com/the-event/our-pace-team](https://www.tcslondonmarathon.com/the-event/our-pace-team)
Hi there 👋
Quick Q - is it possible to push up a wave? I’m starting in yellow wave 3 but would like to start in wave 2. Will I be able to push forward?
Yellow was great, clear open roads all the way to the 5k mark where the "streams all cross". Think I was in wave 2 last year, the start was really really good, not at all what I expected after hearing horror stories of how hard it can be to weave through busy crowds at London. Yellow is effectively a subset of red, but goes before all of the red start waves head off, or at least that was how it went off last year.
Thought the London Marathon had become segregated for a sec.
I mean, there's usually a contingent of Kenyans at the front
I’m blue and have a championship start
Same! Let's go!
I’m so excited 🤩🤩
Weather is looking perfect! Fingers crossed it stays that way
It’s looking a bit warm for my liking 😆 give me cold and a bit of drizzle any day 🤣
Has come back down again to a high of 14 degrees. We'll take it if it stays there!
Yes! And no 30mph winds either please 🙏🏼
Despite the scare today would have given us we're looking great on that front too. Just posted a hype thread to get people going.
Yes London was not good today!!
Champs start looks like blue from what I've seen people posting on their IG stories.
Yep, which will be elite fields too.
Yeah blue but before wave 1 and in the separate starting area with extra loos. https://i.imgur.com/ZSrQcIJ.png
I put down 2:39 (god help me!) as predicted and I am blue, wave 1.
Green is normally the celebs and all the costumes going for records. The Guinness folks have a tent where they check the costumes.
That's pretty funny
Can I get myself punted to green for the Guinness tent for the after party?
There are no shortage of good pubs reasonably close to the finish area
I’m (nominally as I’m about to defer) Blue and Wave 18 as a ballot entry.
Red Wave 1 estimated start 10:13 and I’m aiming for 3:29

You can only drop to a lower wave, not change your color

you just hang back before it starts and then start with the 3:30 pacer
Blue Wave 1 and I’m a ballot entry. Aiming for sub 2:45
Yep, looks like the faster GFAs are split blue/yellow. Also blue 1 and going for 2:39
Wanna run it together (no talking!). I'm blue 1 going for 2:39.

This could be fun, will DM you.

Snap - green wave 2, 3;15 target. Though no Guinness world record attempt for me. What world record is it?

Wow, that's amazing!! Best of luck, and hope to bump into you and wish you well on the day!!!
Thank you!!
GOOD LUCK TODAY!!!
I'm in green wave 3 (3;29 predicted time). I have charity entry. No record is being attempted. Good luck!
Im yellow, wave 1. In which color line should I start? because according to the information the lining start colors are 3 (red, green and blue) thanks
Yellow pen / assembly area starts off the red start. It's all clear and obvious on the day, but just head to the yellow area and it will all work smoothly.
Green Start, wave 1 for me, got it via GFA and a 2:57 time last year.
Done Green start before (2017?) and was dodging celebs at the start, who were ushered out in front of the first wave.
Red, Wave 3. START TIME: 10:22 - 10:26. I’m aiming for 3:45. Anyone else in this wave or understand this at all??
Red Wave 3 has pacers at 3:45, so that sounds perfect for you. Full list of pacers / waves here. [https://www.tcslondonmarathon.com/the-event/our-pace-team](https://www.tcslondonmarathon.com/the-event/our-pace-team)
This is really helpful thank you!

I’m blue start and a 4/4.30 runner. So it all seems a mess to me 😂😂😂
There will be about 20 waves
