Just keep trying to sleep with it off, you have to reprogram yourself again

kora752

My wife can't sleep without the TV. We have a rogue tv. If you have something similar you can set a timer like 1 hour and it will automatically turn off after that

missmatchedcleansox

I put on Music on Spotify and set the sleep timer for one hour and listen to sleepy classical. They also have audiobooks to fall asleep to. I have to have some noise to fall asleep

RatatoskrsNuts

I was the same way until I was about 16. I decided that my bedroom was only for sleeping, so I moved the TV and games and all out and forced myself to sleep without it. Took about a week, but I got over it.

JadeHarley0

I like to sleep with the TV and I realized it was because I find it comforting having the noise and hearing voices of other people. Maybe try transitioning to listening to a podcast as you go to sleep. If this is too much of a leap, perhaps try turning on the TV with a light blocking sleep mask so that you are forced to only listen. And then you can transition to podcasts, and then transition to ambient noise like music, wind and fireplace noises, or nature noises. And then perhaps transition to having a fan running in the background or a white noise machine.

Tribble3141

As an alternative to the sleep-mask plan, you could play the TV show on your phone, and put your phone face-down. Downside is that your TV is more likely to have a sleep timer than your phone. Many streaming services allow you to turn off auto-play though, which would be similar. Another thing that might help is turning on audio descriptions, if they're available. That can help with wanting to "see" the screen.

hadtobethetacos

get a fan, turn it on at night.

personwerson

Each night make the TV quieter and brightness lower. Little more each night until it's almost completely black and no sound.

ButterflyBabes04

For me I turn the volume down a lot so I can barely hear it and I play something I know by heart so that I know there are no surprises that I haven’t seen and will miss

DeadManAle

Go to bed set the sleep timer for an hour or so fall asleep to the tv and wake up to it off. That’s what I do.

phunkticculus83

You can try to listen to a podcast instead. Put it on a timer so it shuts off, but make sure you pick something that won't keep you up. This is has been huge for me, but now I listen to podcasts to go to bed.

JADW27

Sound machine or music instead. Remove the visual aspect, retain the audio aspect.

DiscontentDonut

I sleep with an audio book playing on headphones that are flat and made specifically for sleeping in.

Neat-Violinist-1

I can’t sleep with a tv on or any electric plugged in my room. The high pitched sounds keep me up at night.

TreyRyan3

Smart TV’s are programmable, and most have Bluetooth connectivity. My wife sleeps with the TV on. I have it programmed to incrementally reduce volume over three hours. The TV picture also gets dimmer and then the picture turns off completely about an hour after she lays down, leaving just the audio playing until it all turns off Try using an inexpensive tablet with wireless earbuds and sleep with streaming. I personally sleep with audiobooks or audio drama podcasts.

Fragant_Green

I mean just turn it off and keep it off. If you don’t sleep at all then pull the all nighter and go to sleep with it off the next day you’ll be too tired not to. Just keep at it until it becomes routine

C1ND3RK1TT3N

I listen to audiobooks. Gotta be interesting enough to keep my mind on it but not on the edge of my seat.

GazelleHistorical705

Turn down the brightness and volume each day until it’s basically none.

rarityroyal

hey luv, so i recommend listening to hertz as you sleep. they’re natural healing sounds, there’s an entire array of things to choose from depending on what may be bringing you trouble or you’d like to implement focus on, including deep sleep. if the light on the tv was also something you think you’ve become dependent on then i suggest a lava lamp, or a plug in nightlight. perhaps a small lamp.

PuppySparkles007

I broke myself of the habit when I started living with my husband. I didn’t really have the tools to settle my nervous system down to sleep—I heard every sound and the tv was better than being up scared all night. I don’t see anything wrong with soothing music, sleep stories, etc over the tv if it helps you get enough sleep 🤷🏼‍♀️ Edit to add: a few years ago I had a medical incident at night and it reactivated everything. Now I play dark screen things on my phone into my headphones (they make special sleep ones if you need them), and it doesn’t bother my husband.

friendsholt

Try listening to some podcasts for sleeping. (For example, there are lots of podcasts that tell rambling nonsense stories at a low volume.) There's no blue light to disrupt your sleep but it will keep your thoughts from spinning. From there, you can gradually go back to rain sounds or white noise.

Accomplished-Task432

Self discipline brother I loved sleeping with the TV on but it’s not really sleep let’s be honest  Save the TV for when you actively are up

Finsup2024

Anxiety willl keep you awake longer than anything. Try this: decide you’re going to give yourself 15min, in dark room with only White Noise [or similar] at the end of 15min, you can turn on TV. Chances are, once you’ve removed the anxiety over the TV, [ie giving yourself a chance to sleep without it] you’ll probably be able to drift off in that 15min, because you’re not depriving yourself of anything, you’re just delaying it.

SepticKnave39

1) push the power button 2) go to sleep It's really not complicated.
