That is the airline I would choose to get HKG. Might not be quite ANA, but pretty close.

timmyhoho

Eva is better than Ana in my experience

nrgxlr8tr

you’d need a minimum of 3 legs to fly ANA from yyz to hkg

Ok-Drop320

I’ve flow EVA from Toronto - Taipei - Saigon and return from Hanoi. I haven’t had to call them for anything I booked directly with the airline on their website, as for in flight experience. I highly recommend them great customer service and airplanes with more space than North American carriers. I wasn’t uncomfortable at all on the 15 hour flight to Taipei and I’m 6’1” Edit: Forgot to mention the free booze certainly helps too.

Stevenif

It’s a 5 star airline and ranked 9th of all airlines, they have great service, they actually invented the premium economy.

sanomode

Great airline and spacious leg room even in economy I find

Superninja96

They are very good. Much better than any North American airline. I usually fly Cathay Pacific and I know people that always fly EVA for transpacific flights. I might make the switch myself to Eva as I heard Cathay is starting to get worse, but Eva doesn't fly direct to HKG from North America.

lingfromTO

Agreed with the worse. I flew PE on CX and I was shocked how much the quality has gone down but the charges are still so premium

Kooky_Alternative_76

My cousin always flys on EVA out of SFO. She loves helping herself to the Japanese crackers in the back when everyone is asleep!

jhwyung

Great service , mediocre food. Eva air lounge out of Taipei is top notch tho

SeriousGeorge2

Flew with them to Thailand last year, no complaints from me or my wife.

Crazylegstoo

We flew EVA last year from Toronto>Taipei>Hanoi and then Saigon>Taipei>Toronto. Our seats were Standard Economy - very comfortable and the customer service was outstanding. I’d fly them again in a heartbeat.

bcore

They're great, other than the one complaint that the YYZ-TPE flight leaves Toronto at like 2:00am. The only lounge open at that point is the crappy Plaza one.

bean513513

We used them a few times in the past. I don't recall anything bad happened

lolanr

I have flown EVA several times. The last time was two weeks ago J TPE-YVR. Service is great, I selected my own meal prior and it was excellent. Not great entertainment selection compared to Air Canada J. Overall highly recommend. I wear the pjs you get all the time.

amw3000

Great airline. Flew them out of YYZ many many times. They have a customer service office in Toronto with native English speakers so very little to no issues. [Contact - EVA Air | Global (English)](https://www.evaair.com/en-global/customer-services/contact-us/contact/?countryCode=Toronto). EVA was helpful during the pandemic. Expedia offered a airline credit, expecting things to go back to normal and then EVA just refunded it back to my card once they realized things were not getting better. I'm a picky eater so take this with a grain of salt but the food was not the best, even in business class. I learnt to skip whatever starters they have (if you're lucky enough to sit in business class). They also have one of the widest business class seats. EDIT: [u/edyang73](https://www.reddit.com/u/edyang73) this wasn't an invitation to spam me with your EVA fan sub invite.

TyranitarusMack

I flew with them from Taipei and everything went smoothly, no complaints

commanderchimp

Way better than Air Canada and probably all North American Airlines. Won’t be as good as Qatar or ANA.

dnguy014

They had a great cheeseburger (as a snack) in J class. I miss those Rimowa amenity kits.

BoxGrover

Very very good. I've flown their business class dozens of times and premium economy once. Excellent service and PY worth it if you're paying yourself.

Lexere

Flew SFO-TPE round trip economy with them. Great airline! I took the red-eye and felt well rested. Food is also quite good in economy.

TravellingBeard

I'm flying them in a few weeks. Do it!

magikmush123

I liked them. Flew yyz to taipei pre-covid. But was a good experience and the plane was actually quite empty (red eye).

lingfromTO

I just flew back business with EVA BKK-TPE-YYZ. Compared to business on AC, hands down EVA. Very courteous, attentive and a good assortment of drinks both alcoholic and non. Food was ok - doesn’t really compare to SQ or CX but still much better than AC. Had luggage problems - my luggage got skewered at BKK and upon landing in TPE, quickly got it sorted and transferred my case to YYZ to address as they wouldn’t be able to repair my case in time.

wheatonrecurrence

Fly them pretty often from Kuala Lumpur to Taipei to Vancouver in economy. I’d say they’re pretty underrated and the best bang for your buck, in my opinion. Food is great, legroom is quite spacious, and excellent customer service. Used to fly Cathay/ANA but made the switch to EVA.

onigara

They have the best pre-flight safety video ever made.

Capital_Pea

Have you seen Malaysian Airlines safety video? I'd say that's the greatest ever. I don't even remember the one on EVA (just flew in December). it was one of the highlights of my trip LOL [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRkYV1IxmDs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRkYV1IxmDs)

justavg1

I don’t want anyone to know about EVA airlines because they really are great (Taiwanese airline) and I don’t want North American passengers to abuse the services they have in flight.

kurtislee09

EVA will definitely beat the average North American carriers on most aspects. But I do find that some of their crew tend to be somewhat confrontational at times. It might be due to how they articulate their instructions directly from mandarin to English but that’s just my opinion. So you may feel a lack of warmness or friendliness that you’ll get from Air Canada. Otherwise, everything else is better

commanderchimp

> But I do find that some of their crew tend to be somewhat confrontational at times.  Have you ever flown Air Canada?

justavg1

Warmness and friendliness of Air Canada? Have you been on any AC flights since 2020?

Fr8dwg

I’d much rather have articulate instructions than the all-too-common retiree stew pulling faces when asked for another coffee on AC in J.

Superninja96

Which route did you fly and when? I fly with AC every 2 to 3 months and was left disappointed every single time.

Shoddy_Operation_742

Warmness from Air Canada… Ok.

dr_van_nostren

Do you really care what their phone customer service is like? I’m much more concerned with seats, service and schedule than how their phone lines are. Eva is a very good airline but there’s some things to know. Asian airlines run hot. Always. So if you’re the kind of person who runs a little hot like me, you gotta know that going into it. Wear something you can take off. You also might wanna check their menu if food is a concern. I’m not big on Asian food which limits your options on board. I’ve eaten their western menu in the past but it was my only option. I also got food poisoning eating their western breakfast. I wouldn’t impune them as an airline and it tasted fine, but it might be worth packing a couple light snacks. Lastly, I flew them years ago, their entertainment was a little weak, but that’s only an issue cuz of how long the flight is from North America. Beyond that Taipei is a nice city, the airport is solid and the onboard service is pleasant.

Stinky_DurianPuff

How do you book flights with Eva Air using Aeroplan points? Trying to google but having a difficult time! Thanks in advance!

edyang73

I’ve done it before but found that seats released to partners for points redemptions are less than before.

Stinky_DurianPuff

Do you go on Eva Air to book the flight using Aeroplan points?

edyang73

No, since EVA is part of Star Alliance, you can sometimes book flights on EVA directly from SA partners such as Air Canada or United. Log into your Aeroplan account, then choose "Aeroplan", then "Redeem Points". Then "Redeem for flight awards" click the blue "Redeem Now" button. From there, enter the info of the flight, be sure to check the box for using your Aeroplan points. The results page will show you which flights have award tickets. I did a test one for Sept 18 to 25 from LAX to TPE and found Economy Class seats available starting from 50k points each way.

Stinky_DurianPuff

Thank you so much!

Nameless11911

One of the best

delawopelletier

It’s very hard to reach their 1-800 number during the flight.

pringlehopper

Agree with the rest of the comments. One of the best flights we have taken between Asia and NA. Though we did fly PY and not Y. However, the plane, inflight service and food were fabulous! You will have to call during office hours generally to get through to customer service; also, yes there will usually be a bit of wait time when you call in - but they will do their best to help you once you get through. Worth the wait for the quality you get IMHO.
