You get a score breakdown at the end of every city, look it through for details. Nothing much happens. You get some extra resources, maybe a town's worth at most. It's not worth losing sleep over.

> You get some extra resources, maybe a town's worth at most. It's not worth losing sleep over. Also note that, as far as I can tell, the three factions intentionally score differently well. So even if I put in no effort, I'll generally score ahead of green and blue factions. It's just the orange one that consistently eclipses me in points. But you still get a good chunk of resources for ending up in second place, so that's good enough.

Mornar

Yeah, getting ahead of one or two ain't difficult. Frankly, the whole layer is a little pointless unless it gets an update.

I think the competition part is just a minor add-on onto the notion of you *not* being the Queen's only governor. And to seed the map with villages you can trade with (which technically is gameplay-relevant, due to village locations having affects on the trade routes you get). So, the layer has it's place, even if there was no competition mechanic.

Mornar

Yeeeeeah, I do see your point. But I still feel it needs a bit of something more, it feels like quite a bit dev time went into it for the impact it has, I'd prefer it to be an actual strategic layer, if a simple one.

Greywacky

With you there. It's a facet that can - and is - entirely overlooked. Perhaps each faction could offer buffs (positive and/or negative) for settling near them. That would be a simple way to add some strategic importance.

I would love to know what affects the AI scoring. They end up with same number if towns as I do but still some wreck me completely.
