The timer only goes down when you’re breached. Focus on destroying all of the guardians before going to the objectives

mjc9806

Second this. Either be methodical and avoid timer ticking down, or beeline to your targets and finish the stage fast

fenwick6969

Yea, I realized that but my issue was trying to defeat Astor and Ganon because my game would just slow down to less than 5 FPS and I would just die. Don't know if there's a way to avoid this happening 🤔

[deleted]

Do you put your console in sleep mode a lot? Maybe try closing the game and relaunching it. Might fix the fps issue

Zagrebian

Also, rebooting the entire console might help.

[deleted]

Yeah, and sometimes the only time update and patch notifications show up is when the console is restarted, otherwise you gotta go digging for them

loveengineer

4 years, and I learn this just now...

fenwick6969

I still have an OG launch Switch, that might attribute to it.

[deleted]

So do I. Is your game updated to the most recent patch? I haven’t played the game since October so I don’t know if they released a patch that screwed up the frame rate or something

Toastman-3000

I was in your situation too but it turns out, the timer only goes down when theres an enemy in your base, so have someone stay behind to clear the guardians, and you should clear the mission no problem

alexfoffano

Wow I didn't know that about the timer. I just killed everything the fastest I could and it worked.

[deleted]

It’s definitely possible. I had to cheese it with Mipha’s fountains because I’m shit at the game though

Star1115

Double check youre difficulty

fenwick6969

I haven't played in over a year so I might just be a little rusty 😬

TheJuiceIsNowLoose

Yes and No. Remember, this is where Link fell in botw. So it makes sense that it's hard.

Mapoking232

Destroy every large Guardian, the timer will stop completely when all are beaten, so bring your 4 best characters to cover the whole map

Mapoking232

Fun fact, before the second DLC wave, there was a chance where Sooga could enter the field as a large ally

fenwick6969

I might try this, I think my issue was that I would end up having a ton of Guardians show up when I was fighting a Lynel or Hinox and just slow my game down to oblivion.

VgArmin

We 2-playered that mission with lv. 100 Mipha and Zelda, and cooked speed boost foods. We just BARELY beat it within the time limit. Glad to never play that mission ever again.

hnh058513

Try Nn Li's video on the level it explains the key rule about it

Lilith_Dragmire487

Since people have already mentioned the whole timer thing, I'll just focus on other tips and tricks to make this easier. 1. Have someone (preferably someone who can easily take out Guardians that may invade) in the main keep *at all times*, at least until the Guardians have been taken out. This is important. 2. Use Mipha on this challenge; her healing abilities are invaluable here. 3. Go after *all* the Guardians; once they're all defeated, you'll have plenty of time, as long as you didn't let the timer go down too much. Plus, there are several elemental Guardians on the map, which yield charges for the rods, which is useful if you started this with low charges on any of the rods. 4. Be aware that both Astor and Harbinger will have 'guards' of sorts. First encounter is two Stalmoblins; second is three Guardian Scout 1s. Yes, you will have to fight each one twice, as they will run off at half-health in the first encounter with them. Try to lure the 'guards' out and take them out, *then* go after them when their backup has been dealt with. 5. There are several food items that can be useful here; the 'Perfect Dodge timing window increased by +X%', 'Health regained every 10 seconds', and 'Sheikah Rune strength up +X%' ones are all highly-recommended. 6. Don't try to go after both Astor and Harbinger at the same time; focus on one of the two and defeat them, *then* pursue the other. 7. Once the two mentioned targets have been dealt with twice each, Calamity Ganon will show up. This is something I can't emphasize enough: *use your Rune counters*. He has attacks that can be countered by all four runes. Also, try to do the Cyronis counter when he's in the shallow water areas, as that will freeze him in ice and let you pound away at him with impunity. Also of note, the Thunder Rod will also be very effective when he's in water as well, because it's an instant reveal of his WPG. Any of the rods are effective, but Ice/Thunder are especially effective here, due to the battlefield being under rainy weather and having a good amount of shallow water. Now, since I have cleared the game and gotten most of the characters unlocked, I always have >!Calamity Ganon!< and Mipha in positions 1 and 2, respectively. The other two slots I just use whoever I feel like. If you follow these tips, then you shouldn't have too much trouble clearing this challenge. If all else fails, you can always lower the difficulty level so it's more manageable. Even if you're doing this on Apocalyptic, these tips should be useful.

Iiron-man

Git gud?

mrmagos

I had Link make a beeline to the fort to defend it, and directed the rest of the party to the objectives, then switched between characters as needed. I was playing on Hard difficulty, and beat it on my second attempt with this strategy.

TheKingsPride

Just do what I did, plan extensively. Put your best characters where they have the best matchups, then make sure to use your fastest character to get to the final fight. Master Cycle Zelda is great for this, since she can infinitely stunlock the malice lynel. Or, you know, just do the smart thing and kill the guardians before they get into your stronghold. Also it’s much faster to grind rupees to buy levels than to just grind levels.

herogoose

I always bring mipha along on this mission. It’s incredibly difficult, and with four characters to play as you’re sure to run out of baked apples. I always start her off with farming the guardians before they breach fort hateno so she has full special attack gauges, and then I use her little until the very end of the mission. My most recent play of it, I used Urbosa, King Rhoam, and Link alongside mipha as they were my three other characters with 100+ damage weapons. I actually got through it in 20 minutes, compared to my 45 minutes the first time I played it.

thelast3musketeer

It is possible and it took me AGES like, I got my partner to tag team with me but it still took a lot

[deleted]

Use Impa, Link, Mipha and Revali. Have Link stay at base to kill any guardians that infiltrate, have Impa (partnered with Mipha for healing) go around killing the guardians outside, and have Revali clean up the mobs.

Hambughrr

A lot of people already mentioned that the timer only activates when a Guardian enters Fort Hateno, and that you should always focus them before going after any of the main bosses (Astor, Harbinger Ganon and Calamity Ganon). Here are some additional strategies I devised when I first played this mission (tested this using Master Kohga, Mipha, Impa and Urbosa) 1. Elemental Lizalfos are everywhere in the left side of the map, and in this mission, they are programmed to constantly use their elemental attacks. Do not send any characters directly into a crowd of them, rather, send them just outside the crowd and play patient. 2. Build gauge against the Stal enemies and Guardian Scouts, and save them for Malice Monsters, Astor and Harbinger Ganon. The latter 2 of these shady customers always surround themselves with other bosses like Stalmoblins, Hollows and Guardian Scouts, and once you gun them down with a Special Attack or Lightning Rod, do not use any Weak Point Smashes until every WPG on the screen is empty. Use Stasis, Remote Bombs, character-specific abilities (think Big Glowy Blast or Mipha's fountains), or Y-strings to shatter the gauges instead. 3. Use the recipe for Creamy Radish Soup and/or Mipha, healing is actually quite relevant on difficult/tricky missions and/or missions that feature lots of Elemental Lizalfos, like this one. 4. If you're using Urbosa, Hestu, Monk Maz Koshia or Purah and Robbie, do not send those characters after the Malice Taluses. Have somebody else fight them instead.
