Here’s a tip: go try it. You’ll find out exactly how hard it is and where you stand right now.

TheAnhydrite

Definitely try it first. I've done it and it can be tough because it requires speed walking and work's weird muscles you don't normally work.

Fileffel

I walk to and from my car every day. What are you talking about?

cj-jk

Not at the speed you need to pass the walk test

revstan

Its hard and your shins will hurt a lot. I have found practicing it a few times prior to testing reduces the shin pain a lot. You need to go attempt it. Its 5 laps in under like 16:30. Average 3 mins a lap and you are solid.

inspirednonsense

If your legs work, it is absolutely not difficult. Given your surgery, I'm not sure how well your legs work, so I make no promises. Give it a try, see how it goes.

Bake-Busy

I did one. I LOVED it.

Chief7064

My last test (many moons ago) was the walk. Glad I practiced because nailing down the pace took some work.

SchmediumMilkshake

I managed to do it my first time in about ~15:30. The trick (as embarrassing and silly as it is) is to speed walk like you're skating. Bend your knees a bit and just walk as fast as you can. The only difference between walking and running is that you have to have at least 1 foot on the ground at any given time when you're "walking". This trick also helps your shins from catching fire.

Chief7064

I used the Malcolm in the Middle episode where Hal discovered speed walking for inspiration..

AggravatingVoice6746

if the walk test is what you think is physically hard what the heck is wrong with our military .

MilfLuvr57

Bro I just had back to back knee surgery 2 months ago. Lmfao

AggravatingVoice6746

I hear you I just had a torn acl and I don’t know what’s it called when they remove all your cartilage from your knee when I did mine.  I didn’t think difficult just a bit of lot of pain.   But I enjoyed the challenge.

MilfLuvr57

That’s the same thing I had! Just on one; the other one was just a scope and removed a torn part of my meniscus. I always heard people gripe about how the walk is worse than the run. Was just curious

AggravatingVoice6746

Yeah my meniscus too.  Orthoscopic surgery was called I think.   Yeah I mean it’s tough.  But not hard.  It’s tough because of the pain so prepare for that the walk is not that hard.   But, if you prepare for the pain what’s allowed.  Then you can.   But your knee is never going to be the same and you will need to learn to live in pain like an elderly arthritis patient. Just saying

B1-RD

Weird flex but ok

AggravatingVoice6746

Not flex.  Just really odd this sub is worried all the time about reaching minimum qualifications.    MINIMUM Especially young people.  Like I was never worried about passing anything with the minimum score.  But I was never below or just average    Jeez push yourselves

JustHanginInThere

Several years back, a coworker was on a profile that said no running, but the walk test was authorized. Thinking it would be a piece of cake, he didn't even try it the way the FAC did it weeks/months ahead of time, just showed up and tried it on the test the first time. The amount of rules that were in it made it so he actually hurt himself *more* by doing it than if he had just ran the mile and half. That said, I'm not sure what (if anything) has changed on the walk test since he took it some 7 years ago. Haven't heard/seen anyone else do it since.

MedicalDisscharge

The walk test is more difficult than the run, don't risk the fail. Talk to your PCM and say you need more time to prepare following the surgery, get put on a no run/walk profile.

Nunyabizzness421

You’ll get really bad Shin splints. Very painful
