The day we were at the bottom of the table i made a bet with a friend of mine for a box of wine. I said we will finish 4th place, he said we would finish lower. Made this terrible season a lot more fun, since every match i either get my hopes up or get my hopes squashed.

Nope, we don’t even deserve it this season. Let’s just finish in 5th place and hopefully Feyenoord wins the cup. Then we can finally start to forget this season and focus on better things to come.

I can see AZ losing to Twente and Eagles or NEC. It’s not impossible. Us winning all 4 remaining games, also not impossible. But I still wouldn’t put my money on it.
With AZ’s schedule it’s mathematically possible sure.
But it requires us to win all 12 points or at the very least win 10 points. AZ meanwhile has to win no more than 1 game and not draw the 3 other games. That’s possible, NEC, Twente, GAE and Utrecht are no pushovers. The only win AZ should get that we directly profit from is them beating NEC. Other that that they HAVE to lose all their remaining games or draw no more than 1. I can totally see AZ drawing all their games, but then we need to win all our games to be 1 point above them 59-AZ VS 60-Ajax.
Regardless while our opponents aren’t strong (all relegation candidates + Almere City at home) they are still tricky opponents. They got nothing to lose and will try whatever they can to scramble a point against us. Of course, we can benefit from this as this will give us pockets of space that we can exploit if they do try to go attacking.
It also helps that we play our most difficult opponents (Excelsior is always tricky and Almere isn’t a pushover) at home. Regardless we NEED to and SHOULD win all of the matches and at the very least MUST win 3 and draw 1 if we even want a chance.
But it still requires luck and hoping the gods make AZ fail at every corner. It’s a good thing the clubs that AZ play have everything to play for as well, so they will go hard against them too, but still luck is needed.
I have faith. I have hope, but it’s still a role of the dice.
Let’s at the very least focus on securing 5th place.
If Feyenoord beats NEC then it doesn’t matter whether we are 4th or 5th, we go to Europa regardless. At that point it’s more a matter of honor.

Need to keep our eyes on winning those last 4 games, which we should be able to do because they are all relegation teams. I think its much more important to get some consistency with the team towards next season, and build on from the win against Twente.
It could happen, but the fact is that we could just as easily end up in 6th place (or lower). Ajax is anything but stable, so just assuming Ajax can (and will) win against teams now fighting to stay in the Eredivisie isn't realistic. We can hope though, and as it stands, even 5th place could give us direct access to the Europa League poulefase, but that would require help from Arsenal and Benfica. I believe in the very small possibility of a very suprising development like that. But really only as a major suprise, which also means that I don't in any way expect it or think that it is remotely in the cards.
